"Circuit City" Going Out Of Business

Yeah I know, its very depressing.

I love Circuit City, Best electronics store ever! It was a fantastic company with good people and I will miss it!

I absolutely hate Best Buy and I have my reasons.

anyway, its a shame CC is going out of business! This damn economy is going to get worse before anything gets better.

My older sister used to work there and she has a lot of friends that still do.
Kinda sucks, but eh .. thats life, right?

Now comes the hard part. waiting long enough to get the best discount, but not long enough to lose out on what your looking for. :fingerscrossed:

Yeah, I know right? I swear I have such a hard time with that. Lucky it's not gonna be closing for a little bit since I've no money. Must plot, must plan, must save!

So I went today. They are taking credit cards, the line was absolutely stupid, and short of furniture (30% off) which is already marked up about 500%, not only did I not see good deals, but I saw things marked up for the 10-20% off. Example, Matrix Ultimate Collection on Blu-ray was $120. With the discount it came to $90 bucks, which is the price it is normally at Best Buy. The trip was really a waste of time. Like Viper said, keep an eye on it and check back after a while for better deals, but with less inventory.

On the other hand, my closest Staples is going out of business and there was some pretty decent deals to be had there.

Be careful though - wait too long and they'll be out of what you are looking for, or you'll be stuck with nothing but display demos.

I work at Circuit City and wasn't terribly surprised that it closed. I thought that 2009 would be the year it happened, but I expected to work there for a year (April) at least. It looked like everything would work itself out last weeks. Things were just too bad for someone to invest in.

I'm really going to miss working with the people at my store. I've had a lot of fun working with the people I've had the chance to work with. I hate that people have children to look after, rent to pay and they don't know what's going to happen next. This is the second time this has happened to some of our people who transfered to our store when CC closed stores a few months ago.

We didn't know what the hell was happening once we got word that the stores would be closing. The liquidator didn't arrive at our store until 12 and we didn't know what the price adjustments would be until 1. We're still hearing different things from different people. We don't even know when our last day will be and I doubt we'll know ahead of time.

And yesterday showed me how people think. People came to buy TV's at prices they could've gotten before the closing or at other stores. 10% is nothing compared to some of the reduced prices I've seen prior to yesterday. People hear "liqudate" and they're ready to buy all-of-a-sudden. And days like yesterday are full of assholes. They'd rather give attitude about things we don't control than give respect to people who continue to work hard while they're stressed about this situation.

I hope everything works out for everyone. A lot of people are losing their jobs and really feel hopeless right now. I'm going to enjoy the days I have left with everyone while I can.

I wonder what will happen to those who purchased warantees for things like computers?

As stated earlier, the warrantees are handled by third party companies, so they are still valid throughout the length of the contract.

From what i understand those are bought from a third party vendor so they should still be good. It's a shame to see so many people losing their jobs.

My mother had purchased one through Circuit City, or so she said. Apparently now it's stuck somewhere in Texas and no one can give her any info on anything about it. They did tell her though that they are receiving an average of 500 computers a day. Does that sound right?

I never liked shopping at CC, but it's a damn shame so many people are going to be losing their jobs. Circuit City, RIP.

this economy worries me to no end, and this is just another aspect of the problem: businesses closing their doors. Small businesses are suffering the most, but if large companies like Chrysler are going under and medium sized ones like Circuit City are calling it quits too then we know we're in trouble.

I'm no economist but I only see this getting worse before it gets better. I'm getting ready to graduate from college within a year, and I only hope that things will have improved by then so my job search right before and after graduation will be less painful.
