City or Country: Which are you?

Country through and through. I was born living in the country, parents moved us all to live in a house in the woods, and now that I'm on my own I live in the city. Too much noise, lights are on all the time, I always hear neighbors business, I hate the traffic, and I hate the crime that goes with living in a city. I need to go back to the country! :'(

Having grown up like that, have you too noticed just how impersonal a city seems. You can hear and see everyone's business, and you can't take a piss off your back porch if someone else is in the bathroom already (okay, not like i would do that unless i was drunk or something, it's nice to have options). It took me almost 6 years to get used to the fact that i could hear cars at night, albeit faintly in the distance.

I was born in New Jersey, but I never had a Jersey accent. My parents were New Yorkers, but aside from a brief period in Texas, I mostly grew up in Florida, around snowbirds from New York. Then I spent eight years around Marines, many of which were from the South. I've developed a bit of a southern drawl, but it's mostly Jersey people who notice it. Now I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I've seen quite a mix of people around the tri-state area. It reminds me of something an old friend from this forum told me about Ohioans:
"They try to be a mixture of mid-western redneck and New England snob, but don't do a very good job of either."

I guess I fit in perfectly here. 😕

I've really been comfortable in both environments. I never lived in a "big" city but when I have visited places like NYC or Chicage I have always felt right at home roaming around. I am not really good at just sitting still so the activity of the city really attracts me. That being said, I have played in a blue grass/folk band so I am kind of a country boy at heart. I talk with a little bit of a southern accent, but it gets extremely bad when I am around other southerns. I also drink way too much sweet tea, but I really feel comfortable in almost any situation and am able to adapt to my surroundings and who I'm with.

City. Country is booooooooooring. Sadly I've spent more time living in the country. I also have a horribly country accent. >_<

I've always lived somewhere in between, typically in a moderately sized town with a respectably town-ish "center of town" but lots of woodsy areas as well... and "nature" has never been particularly far away. I like people, but I tend to get uncomfortable if I'm in a big, crowded city, or bored if I'm somewhere that's 100 miles from anywhere.

For a couple of years before i moved back to Texas i lived in Leavenworth Ks.It's just about the right size,35,000 or so.Big enough to have most of what i needed, but pretty easy to get around in.

And being a history geek it was perfect for me.😀 The main gate to Fort Leavenworth was about a mile from my place and the famous,or infamous federal prison is right next too the fort.

One thing i really liked was that Leavenworth did not destory it's downtown during the urban renewal movement in the 1960's-70's.Many historic buildings from the 1800's are still in use.

If i ever did have to move back to Kansas (shudders at the thought) Leavenworth is where i would want to live.

The country is more romantic, and generally looks nicer, but I'll take the city. New York is where I'd rather stay; I get allergic smelling hay.

I started out in the city until my mother moved us to the suburbs in the 70s (because it was the Jeffersons "moving on up" kind of thing to do back then). I hated every minute of suburban life; we were in one of the so-called better neighborhoods and many locally successful people come from that area. As soon as I could I moved back to the city after telling my mother that if I lived next door to the suburban high school, I'd NEVER send my kids there!

I live in the city now but it's gotten a little too urban for me. There are four houses across the street I've dubbed "hillbilly heaven meets ghettofest!" Three of the four houses have relatives in them. No one works, and they drink and fight all day. One house has about 8 kids living on the 2nd and 3rd floors; they open the windows and screens and hang their heads out. The third floor window no longer exists with nothing to cover it but a curtain. I don't remember the last time the kids went to school and trust me, the mother is not home schooling them. It is depressing to watch so many with no goals and aspirations, seemingly satisified with going nowhere in their lives.

I think my next move will be out of the county; I'll save a bunch on taxes even though it'll probably get eaten away in gasoline for the suv.

Grew up in an urban area, then moved to one of Holland's largest cities, and then moved to a small village just outside that city. And it sucks. Love the appartment, but village life is just boring and dull. I lived right next to the city centre for a year and after a while start loving the drunken idiots passing by your house each night and the sound of busy traffic when you wake up. I really miss it. And the fact that I could get a kebab and a pack of cigarettes at 4:30 AM.

I don't mind the country, I suppose, but I've lived in Louisville all my life, and have been living downtown for over a year now. I love cities. 🙂 I like to be overstimulated. XD

I grew up in the suburbs but to most of yall it would be considered the city (perfectly rectangle city blocks with identical houses far as the eye can see)

but i spent a lot of time in the country (and in comparison that where i live now)

I miss the convenience of the city but enjoy the calm of the country

Grew up in the country. I can't imagine living in a city. I like the peace and quiet of the country side, room to run and play, a grove to venture in, you're able to do more out in the country than in the city.

Grew up in a city that was small, but now it's big.

Conveniently, my preferences went from small to big.

I've lived mostly in the country/small towns and I like it that way. The only city I'd care to live in is San Francisco (I lived near there for a few years).

City, nothing like it. Can't wait to move back. If things keep going good, maybe alot sooner then later. 😀
