Congratulations to Prince William and Duchess Kate. I heard on the 6pm news tonight, that the Royal Baby was born today, weighing in at 8 lbs, 6 ounces, a healthy baby boy.

The (Sometime) future King Of England.

The baby has yet to be named.

Here's hoping the Royal Family and their new addition have all the happiness in the world.

OK, look at it this way. Somewhere, perhaps on that very day, a future lawyer was born. He will have a successful career, during which he will decide that practising Law does not allow him as much scope for cheating, lying, willful illogic and stealing as he wants. Accordingly, he will go into politics, where he can indulge his mania for all four on a far grander scale. And eventually he will be elected President.

In a republic, being against the elected ruler can be seen as being 'anti-democratic' as he is the people's choice. In a constitutional monarchy there's someone offering a sense of lifetime permanency above the petty squabbles and machinations of Government.

THAT is the advantage of a Constitutional Monarchy. No system is perfect, and the monarch is only a figurehead, but he or she is in the public eye from birth, knows it as soon as some sort of infant comprehension dawns, and generally acts accordingly.
