It does look like a good movie. Hopefully I can see it in a theater.

I don't know if you've seen it yet, but this is absolutely an "In Theater" movie. The acting, story, cinematography... it's like somebody brought John Ford back from the grave and had him make one more western, only this time with CGI Aliens. I was watching it and thinking (CGI or real) allot of these wide shots with all the landscapes are reminding me of the way the Searchers was filmed. It's nice to see a good movie at number 1 for a change, and not just some shitty effects-fest.

Well I look at it this way, Smurfs is with out a doubt a kids movie and so you have to consider Parent + kids= $$$. Hell I would go see the Smurfs if it wasn't for this one episode of "Law & Order: SVU" I saw once. I mean stuff meant for an older crowd (teens-adults), allot of times people won't realize just how bad a movie is because they are so over whelmed by the CGI. Look at how much money the Transformers films are making, but none of them were as good as movies from 50 years ago.

This is simply a really good movie.

Olivia Wilde.

Ha! Funny thing about Wilde in the movie. There was a kid watching the movie with his dad (mid teens I would guess), and there is a scene where you ALMOST get to see Olivia nude, but Daniel Craig throws a Horse Blanket around her. I looked over at the him and said "Sorry kid.". The kid smiled and the guy on the other side of me started laughing.

Fun time all round... poor bugger.

If smurfs were commies they would be red, and they would wear gold pants and hats. However to answer to you question, little kids, who out number most of the rest of us. Chances are Smurfs will be #1 by the end of the day, because Mom or Dad + 2 (or more) kids = big bucks. When I was a youngin' I would have wanted to see both movies.

Looks like a spoke to soon, Cowboys & Aliens beat out the Smurfs by $800,000. Still that's not allot.
