Thoughts on it? do you think it's right? is it good for the rap music industry as a whole? or is it wrong to ''degrade'' anybody?

VC:

I'm trying to figure out where you're going with this one. I assume you're asking what do I think about a bunch of ex-dope dealers calling the women B's and hoes? I find it disgusting to refer to our African American queens to an animal with a fur coat, four legs, and a tail!

Think about the visual for a moment. This is a woman you slept with last night and woke up next to the next morning. When he pulled her clothes off did he see the body of a woman or a female dog? They have names for people who have sex with animals!!! :ranty: :wow: :Grrr:

Enough of my rant and back to the topic! There's way too much violence, sex and drugs in rap music and videos. In the 80's rap was fun, political, and even a little sexy. Now, it's mostly vulgar and raunchy. I hope some of the old school players come back and give these "gangsta rappers" a lesson in the way rap music was really meant to be.

I just simply asked the question. how do you feel about it? todays rap artist and the rap culture ingeneral really calling women Hoes and Sluts etc.... in thier rap videos and lyrics. your opinions and thoughts on it that's all. that's my point. pretty simple to understand.

"Simple" can be a relative term to some of us out here! Anyway, I provided my opinion on the matter so I hope I stayed on point to your thread.

It's too bad a dialogue won't stop the churning of garbage through the airwaves. Looks like this crap is here to stay! Like I said earlier, I wish some of the old school rappers would pick up their microphones and tracks and take these youngus back to school.

I feel like it makes them look like complete morons... But it sells, and it sells a lot.. So obviously many people(guys and girls) do not have a problem with it and as long as it keeps selling then you will keep on hearing more of it.

It honestly doesn't bother me any. I go past the words and focus on the lyrics as a whole, and the rhythm in which they flow. And if it's put to a good beat, well then you can bet I'll shake my big rump to it. 😉

Mimi

Can I ask why people calling females in general "hoes" does not bother you? Just curious.

Cause it's just a word, and it takes more than that to offend me. Words can only offend if a person perceives them as offensive. The terms "bitch" and "*****" don't bother me either. It's just a generalized term, not being said to anyone in specific.

Fair enough... Thanks for the reply.

I still think that the point could be made without resorting to derogatory terms... to me, it takes the whole IQ down a bit. Like "bitches" and "hoes" makes up for lack of originality.

Now I personally don't take offense to this because I am not either of those above terms. And I loooove a good beat... hell, you can have great sex just based on a good beat.

thanks... or thanks to Mimi, although I hear from those who have met me that it actually looks like me, although my hair is more red.

Can't stand it and won't be around anyone listening to it.

With all due respect to Mimi whom I adore, they are more than just words.

They are messages to young people and they are filled with disrepect and violence. In my house growing up, we weren't allowed to use words like nigger, jew-boy, gooks, or fags. They were just words too...but they were words that had meaning and power for those who used them. The KKK used them....and they degraded women too. It's about the vulgar implications behind the words.

The first time my 14 year old nephew called his 8 year old cousin a little ***** because he was aggravated with her, my brother really opened his eyes to what the power of those "words" were doing to his son. He had become indifferent to how he had treated the gals in his life...mom, sister, cousins and friends who dumped him for the attitude. He still listens to some of the music, but he's getting an education in the power of words when we made him find the right ones to explain to his 8 year old cousin what a ***** was and why he was sorry he called her that.

This music is listened to by mroe than the 25 year old guy blasting it as he rides down the street. It's going into the ears of kids who don't yet know that they don't represent the real world.

I'll never understand the WHY behind the need to insult the feminine part of the human race. Women worked too hard to earn equal standing in society to be treated with such disregard. There were days when we weren't allowed to vote because we weren't smart enough...we did something about it ...but for some reason we don't mind being labled bitches and *****s.

I just don't understant it. At least I know my boys won't grow thinking it's OK to use that language. Thank god I don't have a daughter...don't know how I'd give her the message that it was somehow ok that people called her that.

*Claps*

well said JoBelle i liked how you worded it.

But what is even more sad to me is that there are some girls out thier that don't mind being called a ***** or a slut or a bitch etc...? like it's a proud and up lifting thing to be called that they approve of it and they like it.

Now you see why i listen to more Christian rap mostly.

What bothers me more than girls/women not minding being called these filthy derogotory names is the fact they use them on each other. I rank it in the same place of blacks calling each other the "N" word. It was developed to insult us and keep us under the perpetrators' feet. So are these terms in rap music. It sells a lot of records and makes people a lot of money right? So does prostitution, drugs, alcohol, and numerous things that are not healthy for us.

When kids choose to have sex way too young or decide to kill everyone in the school before taking themselves out, where do you think it starts? There is something behind what they put between their ears. It may not end there, but I think in todays "wiser and weaker" generation, I can bet it starts there. It doesn't affect everyone at the same level, but for those that are weaker minded and need someone or something to emulate, why not the rappers they idolize? Unfortunately, many of them don't have anyone else to follow.

Today's rap music only proves one point-you can pass off any piece of filth that potentially poisions and desenstizes the minds of young children and adults alike as long as you put a funky beat behind it! :ranty: :Grrr: :sadcry: :ignite: :ignite:

I won't buy or listen to the stuff! I won't support anyone who blatently doesn't show me they have my (or my daughter's) best interest at heart. But there is something that I've noticed on the positive side. Both of my children have heard this stuff and know it's out there, but when they spend their money, they don't buy it. They buy jazz or old school rap and R&B. Then again, I've taught them how to be intelligent consumers and their money supports whatever organization they spend at. I guess something good came from this after all.

Lyrical tastelessness aside, I don't honestly see how anybody can stand listening to the shit, much less enjoy it, or even worse, buy it. I guess I'm spoiled by the 60s and 70s. You know, when groups and artists had to actually be musicians if they wanted any degree of success. Whoa, there's a concept forgotten by today's recording industry! Nowadays it's all sampling, canned rhythms, and a bunch of atonal shouting that consistantly maintains the most irritating tone of voice possible. No thanks, I'll stick with rock, jazz, R&B, and blues. 🙂

I fail to see the issue here. If they can accept being called it and use the terms for each other, surely it prevents people using it as an insult?

It's unfortunate the way they talk about the women in some of the lyrics, but I love the videos! 😀 Example: Holidae Inn by Chingy with Snoop Dogg. HOT women in that video! But Snoop starts out talking about "fine ass puXXy", and if you hear the uncut version, Snoop really gets nasty at the end of the song. I haven't heard a lot of rap outside of Eminem because his raps are so hilarious. When Eminem talks like that he's definitely doing it just to push the boundaries and will openly admit it. Other rappers like Snoop seem more serious when they say stuff like that.

African-American ?

I didn't think Rev. King martched on Washington so furture generations could call themselves African-Americans. Wow, I'm always learning. As far as the women in rap music goes. They they take a paycheck home every week, as long as they are doing it on their own vocation I guess everybody elts should just shut the fuck up.

I tend to just mute it and watch the hot chicks dance. "It's getting hot in here" has this one girl who takes of her jacket and POW!

What's with the digging up of all these old threads? 😛

If you don't like the music, don't listen to it. And roll up your windows when the car next to you plays it. 😀

Well when I'm using the search function I'll come across threads that interest me and I post in them. If we're not supposed to do that I'll stop, but no mods have said anything yet. 🙂

I didn't say it was wrong. In fact, if it weren't for you, SlaverTickler, and some other users, I'd never have found these threads. Thanks for using your shovel to unearth some hidden treasure chests. 😀

For starters:

African-American is a "PC" term and I personally do NOT like being referred to. My ancestors did NOT come from Africa so it doesn't apply to me.

Second, as far as the women are concerned:

If they want to shake their asses on camera for the entire world to see in the name of a paycheck, that's their business. If they don't expect someone to have an opinion about it, then put your clothes back on and stop gyrating on videos and I'll be just fine! To me it's no different than a dancer in a sex club or a prostitute performing her trade. If you want respect, involve yourself in something respectable.

i agree about the african-american term. it would be like calling all caucasians hmmm heck i'm not sure where im going with this lol anyway out of curiosity, and dont take this wrong, because i for one hate when people of color are described such as in a clip now we have a black woman. it doesnt happen when a white woman is featured. why not? you know? what i am getting at, is this, kis, what term do you prefer to be called or do you not prefer any? i personally prefer black as i do white for white. which is very general since there are all shades of black and white.

and i love eminiem for the record.

Suppose we could call each other Homo-Sapiens for a start.

As for me, Homo-Erectus would be just fine...I won't take offence.
