Disabilities?

ah, is that causing you to be uncomfortable with people touching your feet?

I can't speak for Emily, but for me, that's exactly why! - Plus it would be a loss cause, cause they wouldn't be the least bit receptive!

I think Viper should read this thread and reconsider his views on that subject.

Sad thing for you though, have you completely lost sensory input from that part of your body?

Not exactly ... I have deep tissue pain, but I have no "suface sensation"

This is slightly off topic. But i have to say it's so nice to actually KNOW (okay not in the literal sense as none of us have met) some people on here have spina bifida too.

i knowww, right? it's so exciting. maybe our kink is common within the sb community...:hmm: <---not a jackoff emoticon

Been legally blind in my left eye since about 6 months old and two years ago I was diagnosed with COPD because I smoked way too much, which by the way smokers, I do regret. Haven't had a cigarette in over two years now, so the lung cells that were on their way to dying are actually coming back...but the ones that are gone are gone. It is a managable disease but it sure slows ya down from what ya are use to.

peace out,
daddy

I just want to say that I have a disability too. However, it's a mental one and not a physical one. I know a long time ago, to make a long story short I said I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. That's a high functioning form of Autism. I actually went to see a neurologist back in March of this year, who was recommended to my by my friend who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome back in 2002. After taking a variety of tests with him (such as drawing a picture from memory, reading a story and then answering questions about it afterwards, identifying how different shapes fit into each other, etc...) He then figured out after analyzing the data from the tests, that I have a Non-Verbal Learning disability.

Non-Verbal Learning disability is very similar to Asperger's Syndrome. It's where you have trouble reading non-verbal social cues and such. Have been going to a group called Collage since Aug. 2006 and it's been helping me with learning body language and things of that nature. Made a lot of progress there :goodjob:.

I have Asperger's myself(also high-functioning) and also epilepsy. Was born with both. Didnt' know I had Asperger's until 4 months before I turned 30. It was a bummer at first but nice to now have a word for the behaviors besides "weird"

here's the thing. Disabilities are a gift from God even though they may not seem like it at times. This means God knows we can handle a lot. Most disabled people are spiritual warriors at heart. Their souls have been through many battles and can handle the fire. It's frustrating on a human level but I'm thankful that God trusts me enough to deal with these things.

Also, as has been echoed on here before, it's nice to know that we're not alone in this big wide world. We're all in this together, along for the ride. Think of it as we're in boot camp now but we will ALL graduate someday! :neenerneener:

I was born temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. Difficulties at birth caused my hips to break and it took 2 years for them to heal on their own. 2 years after I gained the feeling in my legs, I had to go into surgery for a double-hernia operation when I turned 4. I don't remember this personally, but I've been told this by my family numerous times growing up...that it was a miracle that I wasn't permanently paralyzed.

That's a good way to look at my Non-Verbal learning disability. Although I am trying to help myself, it's difficult to have a disability that affects the way you interact with people. In a way, it's even more difficult than having a physical disability because at least with that it's obvious that you have a physical disability and people see that right off the bat and are more likely to treat you with respect. Also, it doesn't necessarily affect the way you interact with people. When you have something like Asperger's Syndrom or Non-Verbal learning disability, it's a hidden disability and not so obvious. The only people who have recognized that I have this are people who are in the psychology field. Thanks for your kind works crydun.

Not liking something because it causes you pain or gives no sensation at all and therefore feels awkward, and not liking something because it's "weird" and you have no other frame of reference for it, are two very different things. 🙂

This is a good thread and I am glad to see some bonding going on. I have no personal experience with disabilities (yet...need to get my diaphragm checked out) but I imagine it is a difficult subject to breach, especially in public.
