Do you believe in an afterlife?

Yep, I do. I personally believe that I will see God in the face when I die. In seeing Him, I will see the truth of all things. It will then be my choice whether to accept truth or not. If I don't accept it and Him, then I spend eternity away from Him, as I have chosen. If I accept Him, then I am able to spend eternity with Him...but only after I have taken time to be cleansed of impurity if needed.

Not in a religious sense. I believe that every person changes the world just a tiny little bit, by actions or words. Every person influences the actions and thinkings of other persons during his/her life. All that sets in motion an intricate and complicated chain reaction of cause and effect, and these effects will stay much longer than the physical existence. This, too, may be called "afterlife".

And I believe that a part of me will live on in the genes and minds of my children, who will pass it on to their children, and so on. This way, a part of me will still influence the future world, long after my death.

I have no problem in seeing myself as a tiny cog in the clockwork of evolution. No matter how small my contributions may be, a clockwork still needs ALL its cogs to function.

see I don't necessarily believe in the soul being passed or an afterlife with god but what you said about living on in some sense through you children and your children's children etc...your influence or touch of another person makes your existence live on.

You cease to exist. There is no more you, no immortal spirit or whatever crap some people choose to believe in. The immortal spirit stuff is just to make the end less hard for people, but it is truly the end. Your vision turns black and your brainactivity stops.

End.

..............I'm still not convinced theres a before death...

I do.
I have the strange experience of being born, baptized and raised by a strict Italian family of Roman Catholics and although I still consider myself spiritual and very much love God, I have disassociated from my Catholic roots. The Church and I simply see things too differently. (It's more than that whole altar boy moldestation thing but that certainly didn't help matters.)

For example, I believe in birth control and a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body, both things the Catholic church LOATHES.

I have more recently become interested in alternative religions such as Buddhism, where what happens to you after death depends on how you lived your life. (you don't answer to some judgemental, angry God in my little world...)

If you made bad choices, you are sent back to learn whatever lessons you missed first time round, and so on, until you get it right.
If you were human and made a few mistakes but overall, were a kind loving person who made people's lives better, you're rewarded by coming back with a "better life" than the one that just ended.

Just in case I sound like to much of a whackjob here, I'll leave you with a quote. I don't know who wrote it (a scientist, I think) and cant' swear that I'm getting it right but here's the jist: "Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it simply changes form."

XOXO

Look at the evidence people. We are most probably the result of 4 billion years of evolutionary divergence. Every other living creature is also the result of 4 billion years of specialisation and evolution. Are we alone the most important beings? Is there a heaven for other animals animals? How about very simple animals such as protozoa? Or how about prokaryotes - the bacteria? There is no evidence for it! I'm sorry TklAduo - but how on Earth can you be so sure what happens when you die? I'm not sure - I'm open to the possibility that you might be right! But I can't see how you could have sorted it all out! But then again, you have faith I guess.

The spark of electrical energy that gives us life..(soul if you will) like all energy, continues on. Perhaps it returns to a larger" pool" of energy from whence it came. (Heaven?) Could be. I believe the consciousness lives on within this energy in another plane of existence....perhaps to meet up again with the energy (souls) of those who have passed on before us....

I see me going to heaven, talking to God and asking him(even tho I know the reason)"Why did you give me the Muscular Dystrophy?" and I would also like to hear him say to me "you done good"then ,it would be a place where I could be in perfect health and do the two things I love to do best(no, it's not that) play ball all day, and dance all night. Then I would do those two things until he was ready to send me down again for another go at it and mabey, just mabey things would be just a little bit better that time around. It may not be like that, but it's nice to think about.

I have a pleasant theory

Maybe it's a delusion...who knows.....
That I will see God when I die, and all my questions will be answered.....or they simply won't matter anymore..and I can function on another plane of existence as somthing more enlightened and at peace then the human I am now. The way I look at it: If I'm wrong I'm wrong...if there is no God at least I slip into oblivion with a smile on my face...and fully convinced of a pleasant lie.

Do I believe that there is "something" that happens to us after physical death?

Yes.

Let's be more specific. Do I believe that the consciousness and individual sentience of the human being survives physical death, and remains so?

Yes.
Why? Complicated answer; not to mention strange. Let's face it, y'all already think I'm a weird enough fucker as it is. Leave it for another day.

One thing I do believe, is that this world and the "layers" immediately surrounding it are much, much denser than the place we refer to as heaven. The collective consciousness and imagination shapes the appearance and structure of this world and the non-physical dimensions that are closest to it. This means essentially, that "we see what we expect to see". When you die then, what you experience is firstly going to be shaped by what you think the afterlife should be like. Because of that everyone is going to think that their particular belief was right after all. (Except the atheists, who are in for one HECK of a shock!😀) When you've been there a while, you'll start wondering about certain things. Like why you keep meeting people who shouldn't be there according to what you believed.

I think it's important to remember that death isn't a cure-all for ignorance. We won't arrive there, slap our forehead in realisation and suddenly understand the workings of the universe. Where we're going is going to be just as much a learning experience as this world is. Personally, I can't wait! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Someday you and I have got to sit down over a few pints, mate...

I believe that the afterlife will be like a giant football game and i'll be in the really cheap seats. :wavingguy

At least two thirds of the religious people of this world will be in equal shock, depending on which religion is the "right one"... 😀

I believe everyone will be in shock when we find out we were ALL wrong.......😉

Only a few?

None of them are the right one. Wonder what all the religious leaders are gonna be doing when we're all laughing at them? :blaugh:

So long as the guy serving hotdogs and beer slopes by occasionally, I'll be happy! 😀

I believe there is an after-life....I believe that what happens is each of us accounts our life and actions before God Himself.

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.

Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.

Nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.

I also believe in an afterlife. There's a standing joke in our family that when you die you don't get to rest in peace. You're assigned a job. Grandma does weather, Grandpa does parking and my Dad does Travel.

Grandma does weather. There hasn't been a family gathering, baptism, graduation or special event where the weather was bad. It might be pouring rain the day before but the day of the event it's gorgeous. Even on a trip I took to Brussels, it had been raining the entire week before. When we landed the rain stopped and it was about 70 degrees the entire week. The day after I left it started raining again!

Grandpa does parking. He had terrible arthritis and used to get lucky getting parking places in front of the stores. Now he gets us parking places right in front of wherever we're going. It amazes people but it happens all the time. Christmas shopping is a breeze with him guiding the way! LOL

My Dad does travel. I went on a business trip shortly after he died. They messed up my tickets so the airlines put me in first class for the entire trip to and from... Brussels! AND... when we got there the hotel was overbooked so they booked me in a 5 Star Hotel in downtown Brussels, two blocks from the town square.
