I am hungry and there is no food.
And I know, I know .. vending machines. You guys, I have no money! 🙁

Dorms suck. Don't live in them. Unless you actually go to school where they provide stores in walking distance.

I am seriously considering walking to CVS ... but then again, Columbus is scary. I might get raped and die. And also, I have no money. hah

Anyone else live in dorms?
Do you like them?

When I was in college a very nice guy used to pull a a big bus up in the parking lot across the street from our dorm.....

The hot dogs were to die for and he stayed there til 2 am every day...

Not to mention that when we were out of cash I could always lift my roomies keys and raid the dorm kitchen...he was the dorm steward....

I enjoyed my time in college dorms. When food was an issue we could usually put together a band for pizza or take-out and share expenses.

mammers....sad girl.... want me to send you a care package..... 🙁 We send em to the soldiers... why not the poor hungry college kids!!!

Wow. Between my getting up off the couch on my phone and into the bedroom on the computer you beat me to it.

So how about it? A Mammers Food Drive? 😀

heehe... Let's DO IT!!!! Food Drive For our one and only MAMMERS!!!!!!

Thankfully i live 20 miles from my university, i stayed with a girlfriend at her dorm once, place feels like a prison at times, i know it's for security and that's good, but you'd have to smuggle food in at times, i know at least at the ones here, you can't have appliances or such so even making some soup is a feat only Macgyver can achieve. This is where Cost Co and bulk amounts of snacks come in.

Living in the dorm at my university, we had the dorm cafeteria, the diner in the hallway connecting the dorm buildings and a 24 hour greasy spoon about a 15 minute way away.

As for a care package, keep checking your mail, Babes. 😉

Y'all don't have survival pizza? We had a place called Gumby's by ASU. Cheap as hell and they were open until 5 AM. 😀

When I was in dorms, I lived on campus. However, campus was only a 10 minute walk to the loca shops, and a 10 minute drive to the 24 hour supermarket.
And I don't remember the kitchens ever being closed during mealtimes.

On the odd occasion that I and my friends arrived too early for a meal, we would go to the dorm library and play on the steinway piano, or to the common room to play pool, or to the bar for a REALLY cheap beer. Just to pass the time.

And, and...it was so. fucking. awesome. I miss it. 🙁

We got Dino's Pizza. We don't order from there anymore due to the fact that my mate Chris found a tooth in his meat feast pizza, and it sure as hell wasn't his.

I lived in dorms all 4 years of college. There was a 24 hour Burger King where I spent a few drunk 4 am mornings, and there were 3 or 4 restaurants that were open until 2. However, dorm living got old, and I eventually started doing some minor grocery shopping so I could cook and bake in the dorm's mini-kitchen.

I was thinking that...at UVM we had these Meal Cards and Mr. Mike's, *the* pizza place, was open 'til 2am and accepted our Meal Cards and delivered. They saved our lives. Plus you could always walk down to Nectars, the bar that started the band Phish, and get a HUGE container of fravy fries and bacon for $2. It was Vermont, campus wasn't really that scary to walk at night; if you were attacked they might get you high and make you wear a Grateful Dead shirt but that's about it....

I lived in a dorm my first year of college where I got to experience the following:

- Drunk guy decides to roast pumpkin seeds at 4 in the morning in the shraed kitchen area. Proceeds to pass out and they catch on fire causing the Chicago Fire Department to arrive.

NOTE: As the city of Chiacgo burned down once already at the turn of the 20th century, they tend to take fire safety VERY seriously.

- Dorm just had a NEW fire alarm system installed which was overly sensitive and caused over 74 false alarms in a 7 month period. (That's a$500 fine, at the time, per false alarm paid by the University).

- Someone dropped a 10 lbs iron pipe down the garbage chute from the 5th floor which ripped a whole through the incinerator and caused garbage to collect in the halls for two weeks. (It smelled worse than "stank breakfast" which you can read about in my blog!! 😀 ).

- Guy across the hall spilled beer in the bottom of his mini fridge and decided to let the mold grow for the next 7 months just to see what it would look like.

- Roomate looking over at me as we were going to bed one night and saying "Dude, I think that chick gave me crabs.....".

There are many other events that happened but needless to say, I lived in apartments the last three years of college. 😛

I didn't live in a dorm, but I did live in a barracks room, which is like a dorm, except it's a lot smaller, has stricter rules, and they make sure you "white glove" clean it every Thursday. The mess hall was usually in walking distance, but was only open in about two-hour increments for normal meal times. We weren't allowed to have cooking appliances, either, so my roommate and I adapted by ghetto-rigging an iron and a cookie tin so we could boil water. From that point on, we were in hot dog and Ramen heaven! 😀

Ahh the memories

This brings back so many memories. I think I "Top Roman Noodled" my way thru freshman year when the dining halls closed... Sophmore year I got a job and brought my car on campus. So I had the means to get whatever I wanted...
But I definitely feel you... My college didn't get a 24/7 cafe' until my senior year...

When I lived in the dorms for two years, I had a meal plan which meant I got a free dinner in the cafeteria a few times a week and a few thousand bucks for the semester for lunch/breakfast. There was a subway, sbarro, and a wendy's in my building open until 7pm, the subway was open until 1am and there were also little convenience stores where you could buy food to stock up on in your room. I had a mini fridge, microwave, and a George Forman. The money given us was put on my ID card and I used it like a debit card when getting meals.

Doesn't your school have something like that? I mean, room and board means your room + food and such.

I have some terrible memories from my dorm experience 2 years ago... I wont waste the words right now. Lets just say I wont ever do that again!! I will keep a job from now on instead of trying to "focus on my studies."

i go to a small, private school. i got my undergrad degree here. our dorms have full kitchens, which is rather nice.

We have it. I know every college has shitty food .. but bleh. If I have to eat one more wrap or one more salad I might throw up. Art school sucks at food.

CCAD fails!

All you guys are talking about places you can walk to and such ... I'd invite you to my campus, but after you got over huge ass red ART sculpture, you'd be bored out of your mind.

I have never lived in the dorms, but the school I go to has a pretty good set up. They have one campus store that is open late but they also have a full size bus that does a loop every 20 mins. The loop also includes stores and all that.
There had been a problem with people getting drunk off there ass and then walking back to the dorms. So Thurs, Fri and Sat the bus runs until 2:30 am picking people up at bars and bringing them back to the dorms.
