I wasn't born yet but of course I have seen it on highlights. I always liked home grown players more like Mattingly, Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera, and even guys now like Judge and Volpe.
I do like home grown players, but I also like getting stars who win a World Series for you from another team (such as Mookie Betts from the Red Sox for the 2020 World Series).
Every team wants that, a great talent that comes from their own farm system. Most teams lose him after 6 years because they can't afford to keep him, but large payroll teams can have him for his whole career.
Amazingly (for the Yankees) it's a long time since they won a World Series...16 years. They were winning them constantly during the Jeter era. I'll never forget though when he said "This isn't easy" when everyone was seeing the Yankees win year after year.
Jeter was right. It is very hard for any team to keep winning year after year. As far as consecutive World Series victories, the Yankees five in a row, 1949 to 1953, will likely stand as the record forever.
Yeah the Yankees got 4 out of 5 from 1996 to 2000 which is insane as it is and they almost tied that record but fell short in 1997 (actually they were closer in 2001 so they almost had 6 in a row lol)...but those old teams from the 50s and 90s are hard to match.
