hey guys, I was wondering what your favorite movie so far is this year. I like Star Wars so Far, The Batman, I still have to see War of the Worlds, it looks pretty good though.

I know it's going to be re released later this year, but my favorite movie so far of 2005 has been Cinderella Man. I thought Crowe and Zellweger were amazing in it, and that the story itself was masterful. It will be interesting to see if it generates more interest than it first did when it's re released.

I'm in total agreement with Mitchell. Cinderella Man is a must-see (and I can't believe how many people haven't seen it). Its greatest value lies in showing us the horrors of the Depression, and how people hung together and coped. Even Renee' Zellwegger -- magnificent. Be sure and notice (as if you wouldn't) the actor who plays Crowe's manager. He'll be there at Oscar time.

Biggest disappointment -- for us horror fans, Dawn of the Dead has very little story line and even less humor (essential for a zombie flick to work).

I think this actually got released in 2004, but we watched "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavor" last night. This thing was was SO hilarious....imagine one of those old black and white sci-fi movies from the 50s, and if someone took the "camp factor" and cranked it up to 11!

Also from last year that was awesome: "Hero" with Jet Li.

Nothing has really impressed me so far this year.

Hitch...but that may just be a biased oppinion because i'm a absolutely huge Will Smith fan

Batman Begins... by a long shot.

Although Madagascar was good, too... 🙂

yea batman was pretty good, has anyone seen War of the Worlds yet? If so how was it

It's my favorite Spielberg movie, but then again, I'm not a big fan of his movies usually... I thought A.I. and Minority Report were pretty disappointing... Still, War of the Worlds is really good. It's one of the darkest movies that Spielberg has done, except for Schindler's List. I think that one will always be his darkest movie, but it's pretty obvious why....

"A.I." was total crap, but I really enjoyed "Minority Report". Seen it several times already. We'll probably see "War of the Worlds" this week, looks good.

I forgot about a really good movie that came out this year: "Kung Fu Hustle".
This had outrageous comedy, decent action sequences, and a good story to boot.

my favorite so far is Star Wars. no doubt. however, Batman comes a close second. that movie was freakin' cool! i have GOT to get me a Batmobile....

I'd have to say this one, for the sheer power and beauty and horror of it all, dispite that it's a movie from `01.
Regardless, brilliant film.

I am seeing war of the worlds tomorrow, people have been saying it is a great movie. Is anyone going to see fantastic 4 at all?

For quality and content, I liked Crash.
For pure hotness, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I can think of no better way to die than Death by Angelina in Fishnets and Riding Crop. I figure we all die sometime. I choose that way. But with tickling. Of course.

thumbs up

war of the worlds is a pretty good flick, the effects look real enough you won't even realize what you are watching is fake..... great CG....

MetalHead :cool2:

sin city

I thought it was one of the best translations from comic to movie

No , no ...... most of the movies that have come out so far this year have been total crap ... INCLUDING "Star Wars" , "Batman Begins" , & "War of the Worlds" ...... I guess my favorite movie of the year so far has been "Million Dollar Baby" ..... technically it was released in 2004 but it didn't get a wide release until January of '05 ..... but that's probably been my fave so far .......... I'll also agree w/AphxA in that "Sin City" was pretty good.

I have to agree, most of the movies released this year have been crap. Granted, I haven't seen "Cinderella Man" or "Batman Begins" yet...which I've heard are both good. I'm just not excited to run out to the theaters to see a remake of a movie based on a TV show from the 60's or 70's. And Romero's "Land of The Dead" left me cold (no pun intended).

I guess my favorite movie so far this year is "Sideways". I know it was technically released in 2004, but I didn't see it until January 2005. It's the most original movie I've seen this year.

I saw War of the Worlds today. I thought it was pretty good. Some parts were great I don't think it's better then the original though. I still think Star Wars was better though

My favorite was "The Longest Yard"...I thought it was a marvelous remake of an older movie and the casting was excellent. I actually had fun at this movie and that doesn't happen much.

Give me "Howl's Moving Castle" anyday 😉 It's been awhile since I walked out of a theater feeling as happy-go-lucky as I did after watching that. Besides that, it was pretty well animated and had several nice underlying messages, though anyone can say the latter about any movie they've seen.

With War of the Worlds, Spielberg actually resists the urge to be self-indulgent. Always leave 'em wanting more the old maxim says, and I left actually believing the movie to be too short. Some of this film . . . really disturbing.

I couldn't agree more having seen this one tonight! The characterizations were brilliant....especially Jennifer Blaire's portrayal of "Animalia"....
