Vintage Games

Anybody know where a bear can get himself some old games?

I'd love to get my paws on--

Roadwar 2000
Mars Saga
Legacy of the Ancients
Legend of Blacksilver

I'm sure there are other titles that I'm forgetting right now, but I'm sure any leads I get here will be helpful in that arena. And very much appreciated, as well!

For your PC, I presume? A quick ebay search took me to Legacy of the Ancients, but no such luck with the others. Might be worth looking into. Well, happy hunting and good luck.

A fiew covers to hopefully give people a better reference of the games I mentioned

That's definitely an idea, but what I'd really love is to find them downloadable to my PC. Searching eBay like that actually results in a ton of ancient 5 1/2" floppy disks for an actual Commodore 64/128/Amiga, which I don't have access to anymore.

Any gamers out there with any possible sources?

There was an old late eighties green screen IBM game that I forget the name of:

It was an old wild west type of game. Yor character was shown on the left hand of the screen from the shoulders to the hip. He was a sheriff.

You would have different people walk past the far end of the screen and begin to engage you in conversation. Your reply came in the form of multiple choices. You could be very courteous, non-commital, or flat out insulting.

Dependig on the conversation, the other character would walk away friendly or start a shoot out with you. However, you had a choce to pull your gun out and shoot at them anyway, be it me, women, or even children.

There were a few minor quests like stopping bank robberies, as well.

If you got shot, your ability to get back into the game depended on how nice you were to the townsfolk. If you were an asshole, the town doctor let you die, if you were nice, then he'd heal you up and get you back into the game.

I liked Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, the original Battletoads game, the 2nd and 3rd Ninja Turtles games for NES, the original Suikoden, and the original Mario Kart.

Yes, yes! The Turtles games were awesome back in my youth. I'd probably still play them today if my old NES was still in working order. I also love the original Suikoden. I had to buy that one off E-Bay since both that and the second one are so rare. Fortunately, the original is infinitely cheaper than the 2nd. I love that entire series, actually, minus a few nitpicks here and there. I hope Konami ends up announcing Suikoden VI sometime in the near future.

The Turtles games were so addictive... heh...

They're up to a Suikoden VI? Wow... the last one I heard about was III. What were IV and V on?

Suikoden IV and V were both PS2 exclusive. VI hasn't come out yet, and in fact, hasn't even been announced. I believe V came out 3 years ago. Suikoden IV is generally considered the worst in the series. Its plot is thin and story is short. I still managed to get some enjoyment out of it, though and still pop it in now and again. Suikoden V had a very deep story for the most part. Gameplay was a good 60-plus hours if you did everything there was to do. The first several hours are filled with a lot of text and little action, however, which can grate on some. But once it picks up, it really picks up. Of course that's just my opinion, but seems to flow pretty well with the general consensus. 😀

Tigris rocked my world in the late eighties.

Mario paint.

The Mighty Bomb Jack was a good one mainly because I used to drop acid (LSD) and play it until five or six in the morning back in highschool.

Sim Ant.

Act Raiser.

Im a little embarassed because I have played just about every game mentioned in this thread, and have many of them on emulators (I actually just played Cool Spot and Streets of Rage within the last week on my Genesis emulator). I also have the splatterhouse games, clayfighters tournament edition, a version of burger time somewhere, river city ransom (buying the food is awesome).

The game I was going to add to the list is a game I have now: Kung Fu Heros. It was easy, but fun, and the characters had the big heads and small bodies.

Suikoden V sounds fun. I might pick that up. I still have my PS2. lol

It's a good game. There are some frustrating elements to it, but they aren't enough to ruin the overall experience, IMO. Random encounters are extremely frequent, but they've generally been that way in every Suikoden except for III. It's also got a non-rotatable 3/4 overhead-style camera which gets severely weird in some places, like your hero disappearing behind buildings when he passes behind them. My last nitpick is the loading times. In some places they are way too long. But nitpicks aside, it is good. Once that story gets rolling, it's hard to put the controller down. Well, it was for me, anyway. 😉

OKAMI

most original game I ever played.
You're a god in a wolves body trying to save the 'world'.
You're accompanied by a louse, who's an artist and a total smartass. (Some of the dialogues are to die for)
You fight by using paint brush techniques which you'll learn during your adventures.
The whole game is painted, japanese style.
It's certainly not the game for action lovers, but it's beautiful, totally unique and a lot of fun.

I have heard wonderful things about OKAMI from a friend of mine. Never seen nor played it, but perhaps I should give it a look.

Check it out on Amazon.
You'll find lots of detailed reviews there which might help you decide.
I can truly recommend it 🙂

Adam I finally found the name of that video game! It's Rocky Rodent. You can find videos of it on Youtube.
