I was watching the tube when it occurred to me... they don't write TV theme songs like they used to. So, in an effort to rekindle fond memories I submit this topic to you all. After some heavy duty thinking, I've come to the conclusion that, for me, "Welcome Back", by John Sebastian is my all time favorite. That's from the show, "Welcome Back Kotter", in case you didn't know. It's just a damn good song.

Even though VH1 called it "awesomely bad", I like the Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You (Friends theme).

These dont have words, but I have two favorite TV themes. The theme from Dallas, which even though was altered a bit each season, stayed pretty much the same except for a few notes throughout most of the series run.
Another theme I thought was interesting was the TV show Starsky and Hutch. Again, no words, but that show had a totally different theme for each of its four seasons. I found that interesting.

If you like that, maybe you should check out Justice League Unlimted.when one episode, --I think it was called "This Little Piggy"..(some Greek goddess turns Wonder Woman into a pig, and she ends up in a slaughterhouse) airs again (I have no idea when that'll be, since JLU is pretty new)..Batman has to sing for the godess that transformed WW to save her. One guy on the message boards said "He sounds like Sinatra"

Who woulda thought that Batman had any singing talent? 😛

Like a fella once said, "Ain't that a kick in the head?"
that would be Dean Martin...but i think Frank did a duet with him on a rat pack cd.

Dad's Army had the best theme tune ever.

The COOLEST TV theme song

Gosh, there are so many great, catchy ones out there, but My all-time favorite?

Theme to 'QUANTUM LEAP'
Sci-Fi Channel airs Quantum Leap re-runs late at night--I'm *loving* it! Does anyone remember this NBC show from the early 90s?

Sanford and Son is SO great. They just don't put as much effort on TV theme songs anymore, do they?

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song owns all.

I also second the married with children sinatra song....that was classic.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...

The most prolific songwriter in television history has to be Fred Rogers of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

Many people don't know this, but Fred Rogers estate now has over 150 songs registered with ASCAP, was responsible for the songs performed on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and held a Bachelors degree in music composition from Rollins College.

His songs were always meaningful, catchy, and easy to follow by children. With the help of his long time friend, collaborator, music director and classical Jazz Pianist, John Costa, Fred Roger's songs were also musically hip and worthy of note all by themselves. John Costa even went on to record a Jazz album of "Neighborhood" songs.

Yeah, Fred Rogers gets my vote more than any song writer for any other TV show in America...except for maybe Gilligan's Island, or I Dream of Genie.. and MAYBE F-Troop. But that's it!
😛

*puts on his "Please don't shoot me" sign*

I like the Yu-Gi-Oh song 🙄 ( amongst others 😀 )

let's see here, before I get stoned then cruscified by the masses

... I also like ... ah yes, the theme for "Full House" ( y'know, it goes like "Step by step, day by day ..." )

also, one of my favorites would be the theme song from "Angel"

Another nicey one is the theme song for "Home and away"

and as for the Dallas theme song not having lyrics ... I know the french version has lyrics 😀 ( Daaaa-llaaas ... ton univers impitoyaaableeu ... and so on and so forth 😀 )

and last but not least; the theme song from "Charmed"

and before you shoot me and drop my body into a field, I'm still a young one, I don't know most of the series you peeps are talking about 😀

I bid thee farewell while I join the witness relocation program

Yeah, that was good...also the He-Man theme (from the 80s..although the new serie's theme song wasn't too bad...but the 80s one rules)....and can't forget Thundercats.

Other good ones are the theme from Buffy the Vampire Slayer...and come on, any of you who have kids who were at least 4 in the 90's...or those of us who were kids in the 90's KNOW you still have THIS theme in your heads:

"Ahh, after ten thousand years I'm free! It is time to conquer Earth."

"Alpha, Rita's escaped-- produce a team of teenagers with attitude!" 😛

I wasn't aware Quantum Leap was on in re-runs anywhere. I remember this show and used to really enjoy it. In fact, I think there are some great fictional stories to be written in the story section of this board, based on that show. Some day maybe I'll even try writting one based on the show.

I love the big, martial instrumentals, personallly...

GREAT topic, BTW!!!

I'm a sucker for the classics, too. The themes from Wild Wild West, Mission; Impossible, Hogan's Heros, SWAT (Cops On The Run), The Greatest American Hero, Magnum, P.I. , THE LONE RANGER, The Mod Squad, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Battlestar Galactica, hell, I could go on like this all year...

Yeah, and I have to admit it, there were (and are still, I guess?) some serious hott lixx in MMPR. I can do some serious air-guitaring when it's morphin' time!

And the theme from Voltron, too... oh hell, there I go again!

Welcome Back Kotter, Silver Spoons, Family Ties and Growing Pains
XOXO

COPS...bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do? whatcha gonna do when they come for you.

I really love the theme song from "60 Minutes". Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.....

If you liked that, the theme from Power Rangers DINO THUNDER will make you want to POWER UP.

😉

(but dammit, why do they have to have a new show next "season"? Dino Thunder got back to the good stuff...this time with a deadly serious villian, and the Dino Zords..now they want to do a series about Rangers in the future? ARRGH! 😡 )
