So many people here have been supportive about my mothers 4 year battle with constant chronic pain, that I have to share the good news now that there is some. Yesterday she had a temporary implant that blocks pain signals put in to see if she would benefit from a permanent one, and it is working perfectly. She is completely pain free right now.

This is still not the end of the road because it's only a five day trial, so it has to come out Friday and then it could be who knows how long before the permanent one is done. But at least there's a visible light at the end of the tunnel finally. However long it takes, it's now an almost certainty that she will be out of pain, and it had really started to look like that was just never going to happen.

Thanks for all the words and prayers of support everyone. They meant a lot to her, and to me too.

That's great news Jeff.😀 Sucks that it has to come out Friday though.Hopefuly she will get the permenant one soon.

Wow....that is awesome news!

I'm glad they found something that'll work for your mother. I hope they don't take too long to get the permanent implant in. Having fibromyalgia, I have an idea what your mother is going through. Your family is in my thoughts.

Absolutely fantastic news, Jeff!!! I'm so happy for her...and for you. I hope the a-holes at the insurance company don't mess around with this one so she can get it done quickly. She must feel kinda strange being pain free after so long. But, I'll be it's a good strange!

hey Jeff, I just heard about this, your mothers pain relief is wonderful news. my continued prayers and well wishes to you and your mother, I am sure this took an emotional toll on you as well.

Aw, dude. I am really hoping this works out for your mom in the long term. I can't imagine waking up every day int he condition that she has. I am really keeping my fingers crossed here.

This is indeed great news Jeff!!!

I know its been hard on you man, hopefully this will make things better.

Best to you and yours always Jeff.

Rob

I didn't know about this before, but I am glad nonetheless for you and your mother at this news. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it has been but hopefully now a new leaf has turned and the outlook is clear and bright!

Good news, Jeff. Best wishes to you both.

Thanks very much everyone, all your comments really mean a lot to me.

But does that mean she won't feel pain at all? Like, ever?

Honestly I'm not sure about this, but even if that's the case, it would be a fair tradeoff. They have her on so much morphine and other pain drugs, which are doing her very little good, that I'm sure ordinary pain is unnoticeable to her anyway.

Its always great to hear good news and I'm very happy for you and your Mum.

All the best 🙂

That's fantastic Jeff! My brother-in-law had something similar put in for chronic back pain from some injury, and it works great. And no, it doesn't block all pain, in his case anyway. It just blocks pain from that specific part of his back that was injured. I don't know if/how this case is different.

Good to hear. 🙂 Not much the praying sort, but you have my best wishes. No one should have to go through that sort of thing.

My best wishes continue; I hope that the permanent device works as well as the temporary one does.

Here's a thought; have her cancel the appointment to remove it, and reschedule. Doctors and surgeons have huge waiting lists; perhaps she could wind up with a couple of months added on to the implantation?

Thanks for sharing the good news! We don't get a lot of that. As far as ordinary pain, I wouldn't assume she's not feeling it. I believe there are different receptors for different types of pain (like morphine works very well on mu or kappa receptors... my pharmacology is really rusty). And different pain medications have different affinities for said receptors. Just my little medical input. We're just now dealing with chronic pain issues in dogs and cats - it's strange prescribing neurontin/gabapentin to Fluffy when it's the same medication my mom takes for MS.

that's great to hear, man!! i'll keep her in my thoughts!! all good things coming your way!!

Great news Jeff. I will keep you and your Mother in my prayers and thoughts.
