...To either just be President or more importantly-to be the one to hopefully better solve the problems in the Middle East and Pakistan-which one would you pick?

I would have to say FDR. The man led us through a Depression, and then a World War, and, in my opinion, was the best president in history, who had to deal with the most problems, during his administration.

This is a very difficult question, because, each time period in history had it's own unique problems, and, the minds of the time, and philosophies of how to deal with world issues, would be very, very different.

That being said, if I could only pick one, it would be FDR.

Thomas Jefferson. It would take him a while to learn all the science and history since his death, maybe even a month. 😛

Everyone's gonna say FDR or Kennedy, I think, but my vote goes to Rutherford B. Hayes.

What a hottie.

I wouldn't, actually. Each of those men probably went through their own personal little 4-8 year (sometimes more than that) hell, and I wouldn't ask them to come back and redo it.

They would be out of the loop, might have to learn about decades of history in order to understand what was going on, as well as the current slang and what have you. Then they'd have to deal with all the pressure of being a good president from the past. That reads "Not fun" to me.

Calling someone back from the dead several years after their time seems awfully cruel to me. If you'd have to, pick someone who's still alive to help out, maybe.

Millard Fillmore because its a really cool name. 😎 You gotta be cool to be named Millard. 😎

😀 😛

Yeah I generally go along with Stage Whisper on this one. Though there were some great Presidents mentioned here like FDR and Thomas Jefferson. They would have to deal with a whole new set of problems they may not be prepaired to deal with. Lets stick with the ones running for president now.

Fdr?

If you said FDR you must not read or understand History. He's a TERRIBLE choice . He was n ot adept at foreign affairs, cared less about the Middle East and his mishandling of Yalta made Europe what it was during the Cold War.

Truman or Ike would be far better choices, they both understood foreign policy better and made better informed decisions. FDR understood America very well, but NOT foreign lands.

Here we go again College boy with the negative vibe. Everyone here is sharing there personal opnion and here you are with the "you dont understand history bullshit". Why not just state your opinion on whom youd like to bring back rather than insult? No one is making a distinction on foreign or domestic policy here. Most presidents had their weaknesses. So FDR made a mistake in reading Satlin and and did not take Churchill to seriously regarding the Soviets. This was all brand new at the time . So what !! How about thinking of all the things FDR did to rally this country in the 30s and 40s and the wonderful things his wife did for humanity.

Gotta' back mils and choose Thomas Jefferson. Man was a freakin' polymath. If anyone could take in all the variables of a world so complex as ours and synthesize some decent solutions, it'd be him.

Because

The question was to deal with the Middle east Situation. FDR had no idea about Foreign Policy. I merely used Yalta as one of his biggest flubs. He misread the Japanese throughout the 30s and probably did more than any world leader to advance Japanese Expansion in Asia. He mis read Hitler and his intentions. The point is if you want someone to deal with a situation they need to be PROACTIVE and not have to have someone point out the situation is bad OR will become bad.

To be honest, none of the 19th Century Politicians would be worth a damn as they're core beliefs were to Isolate the US and no matter what you won't get a man to go against his core beliefs.

T Roosevelt, Truman or Ike are the only Presidents that I believe have the vision and the beliefs to fix it.

I think your over looking the fact that FDR was re elected to office 4 times between 1933 up until his death in 1945. He was extremely popular. He had alot to do with taking this country out of the depression and started all kinds of WPA programs that perhaps even your grandad benefited from that made it possible for guys like you to even go to school today. You speak of proactive well what would you call the Manhattan Project that not even Truman knew about until he became president or the fact the Ike served under FDR. You mention middle eastern policy and forget the FDRs hands were tied as the American Public at the time were more concerned with putting food on the table. It was the American Public that were not intrested in going to war nor getting involved for a long time in affairs in other parts of the world until the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. And in a way rightly so as I know what its like to starve. This japanese expansion you talk of is not hurting us today as they are one of our biggest alias today. want to know about Isolation? How about talking about the present day president with his go it alone policy? The sheer arrogance of the present day administration with his invasion of a country with no weapons of mass destruction, or his possible future invasion of Iran and now finding they were not at all building this so called nuclear arsenal is what I really find damning and messed up.

Dont read history? Ah, Banshee, FYI, I have my B.A in history. I have done nothing but read history since I was like three!
The ignore button is such a beautiful feature!

Oh Oh!! Pretty soon this thread is going to be moved to the P&R Forum.

Truman, Kennedy, and W. (I wouldn't really bring back W. I just wish he was one of the choices!)

George Washington this country could use his leadership

I would bring back almost any president except Lincoln or Kennedy
