No, it isn't. A grown man went and played grab ass with other grown men. Well in the Beck interview he basically said "It's tradition from the Navy, not a sexual thing".

Regardless of what his intention is, the very existence of tickle fetishes getting out to the media is what will effect the way other people will treat us - those with the fetish. A lot of people watch television and are therefore effected by what they watch. That aspect is completely obvious. I'm not saying everyone watches TV, but there is a large enough amount of those who do watch TV, and are affected by what they see, so much to the extent that they would treat someone differently, if the media influenced them to do so. I know a lot of people like that. Trust me - it's a reality, not a conspiracy.

I'm not making the claim that I do, or that anyone else does for that matter, but the fact of the matter is that we do not know what the media will make of the idea of tickle fetishes later on down the road. So far, they have shined a negative light on it, so that leads me to wonder - and probably believe - that it gives them leeway into making us look worse in the future.

The very idea that tickling was involved can lead to the media covering the "tickle fetish" and making it look bad. As bad as they want it to, for all I know.

But regardless, you cannot deny the power the media has over the people. That's one thing that is obvious.
 
Personally I don't believe this will be tickle fetish related....it's more interesting that a guy did it to guys....and I doubt the media will claim that he tickled them because it turned him on, they will most likely claim he used tickling as an excuse to touch them!

that's indeed the bit that makes the difference. It's just that the word tickle rings alarmbells over here but in Vanillaland nothing happens; it's just inappropriate behaviour.
 
I'm with ticklegothgirls on this one, I don't think this is that big of an issue. The only way I really think the MSM is going to bother reporting on the existence of the TMF to their entire viewing audience (if that's our concern here) would be if tickle fetishism somehow became the major focus of a scandal rather than a detail to it - say, if some public official was caught financing trips to tickle gatherings using tax payer money. At the moment, tickling is merely a detail in the story that has been mentioned coz it's creepy for this guy to be going around randomly tickling his staff.

Coz ya gotta admit, that's damn creepy.

And honestly, if tickle fetishism ever is "outed" to the public eye, regardless of who causes it to be outed, whether they be an upstanding individual or some creepazoid, the chances are high that it's gonna be seen in a negative light at first because it's unheard of to most people and any new or foreign concept - let alone one with sexuality involved - is treated with suspicion by someone unfamiliar with it. That's just human nature. But overtime it will lose its edge and it will just be another concept floating around the popular psyche that many are aware of but simply don't give a damn about.

People are not going to react/dismiss/shun people with fetishes that act normal and are not creepy about it, even if they are outed in any type of way.

However those that act ashamed, sneaky and try to hide it may be viewed as shady.

So...whatever happens...eh. I am not worried one bit, but I don't think we are looking at a situation where anyone is going to worry about our little corner of the internet because of a few celeb statements or a politician. If nothing else, it would give us MORE people coming to check it out, make a larger population..and who knows, maybe it will be "the new kabala" for the decade of 2010's. And people will join up and get involved in tickling because it looks like the "IN" thing to do.

Ehhhh, either way, I won't lose sleep over it.
