Michael Vick Indicted on charges related to dog fighting

I really hope that Blank suspends Vick for the year (or at least forces a leave of absence from football to go handle the case). This I think would be the best scenario, because Roger Goodell gets off the hook for having to take action now, Vick is diverted & not allowed to play football with the trial, & the rest of the falcons can play with fewer distractions. RG can always suspend/ban Vick after the court case is resolved. (For the record, I don't think he's one tiny bit innocent, but I'll let the courts prove that.)

The more I think about Vick, the more I hope he gets punished, because at the minimum, these massive dog abuses occurred on his property, & he's responsible for illegal activities that take place on his properties. I feel really sorry for his mom (who moved out years ago because she couldn't stand his posse), the NFL (would you want that kind of bad PR image on you?), & the Falcons organization (the ones that I believe Vick lied to, especially Blank).

Suspension the Least of Vick's Worries

If I were Michael Vick, would I be more concerned about suspension or maybe...conviction? I choose the latter.

It might have an even bigger effect than that when all's said and done. Nike, who initially said they had no plans to pull the Vick V-shoe (or whatever the hell it's called) due out next month has tonight taken it back, issuing a statement saying they're "suspending release" of the shoe...Public outrage is a powerful machine (think Don Imus.)

For decades the rich and famous have been "getting away with it" BECAUSE they're rich and famous. It seems the pendulum is swinging the other way lately. (Think Paris Hilton.) If Vick's convicted and sentenced to the max, this will send a message to ALL dogfight fans. "Shit, if this is what they're doing to Michael Vick, what will they do to the average Joe like me?" Of course the money is nothing to him, but the job is everything and all the noise might increase penalties for future offenders.

Word on the streets is there are potentially hundreds of carcasses found on Vick's property, most of them puppies who upon "testing" were executed if they failed to perform up to snuff. Animal rights groups like Humane Society, ASPCA, PETA etc. have been lying in wait for YEARS to make a bigshot poster boy out of a dicksuck like Vick to make their point for them against dogfighting. He might as well have dropped his sorry ass on their doorstep.

I agree with you Steph. This is a story that drop kicks the bloodsport of illegal dog fighting right into the spotlight. This isn't a just sports story anymore. It has gotten much larger, I believe that only something good can come from this from here on and I hope Vick and all his associates get what's coming to them.

I guess this means you won't hear "Who Let the Dogs Out" at Atlanta games anymore.

A HUGE thank you to tickletoy...I didn't think it was possible that anyone could actually make me laugh about ANY aspects of this atrocious case

To hell with vick, I dont think the falcons could ever get to the Superbowl with him anyhow. A QB is meant to be a PASSER, not a RUSHER. Just ask mcnabb, that style of play won't win you the big game. Manning/Favre/Aikman are the perfect examples of REAL quarterbacks.

The falcons are better off without him.

Simply put, Vick is a scumbag. The guy is both incredibly arrogant, and just plain stupid. He earns 6 million dollars a year, so why the heck would he participate in such inhumane treatment of animals, for any amount of money? What could have posessed him to partcipate in such brutal acts?

I'm an animal lover, too. I LOVE dogs. Personally, I'd love to kick the guy where it counts. That being said.

If they don't banish Vick for life, I would say that at the very least, he should be banned for at least one year, and no less. He should have to forfeit his entire salary for the year, and go through counesling. Then, at the end of the year, see how he's doing. If he seems remorseful, and cured, and never engages in this kind of behavior again, let him back after a year. If he ever does something like this again, he should be gone, for life.

I think if the NFL doesn't suspend him for at least a year, they are showing extreme weakness, insensitivity toward animals, and the crime he did, and, essentially saying: "This kind of behavior is okay". Hopefully, the NFL hirearchy will show some conscience, and act fast, icing him for at least a year.

Mitch

Well, I think we're doing a great job. I know a lot of you out there care as much as I do about this very worthwhile cause (and are working your asses off just as hard) because you're letting me know in spades. I won't embarass anyone by naming names 😉 but I know a lot of people would love to hear from you about how you're helping. And, I want to give huge hug and great big thanks to all... We're doing this gang, let's not stop now! :bowing:

This not a race issue...

...however, after reading the Yahoo Sports article (noticed his new haircut?) I wanted to puke all over myself that some are trying to turn an animal cruelty issue into a goddamn race issue.

Enough already. This country is so polarized that Vick has his supporters regardless of the evidence, and critics as well.

I know all are innocent until proven guilty, but he's guilty. Lock it up: He walks.

Oh yeah. The weak always pull out that card when they have nothing left. Kinda like Vick pulling out his "mama" card. Gutless pig. I love my friends of every color and that I beleive that is well documented here, as it is in my "real life." Michael Vick could be white or purple for all I care. Wouldn't change how I feel.
Here's the latest~Nike just dumped him. At least for the moment. Let's make history, ok? :smilelove

Any man (term used loosely) who can do that to an animal should be put away. For a long, long time.

Yanno, If I get flamed for this, oh well, but I must speak out on this. Peeps, this is just dog-fighting, and more than just Michael Vick is involved, and a good number of pro athletes are into it.

It seems to me, that more people are inclined to feel so sad about a dog/animal dying than a human being. Now howfucked up is that?? It seems when a person dies, hardly any fucking sympathy is raised, but when a got damn dog, or animal is killed, we want to see the offender strung up. This is bullshit!! PETA and any other animal organization can go straight to hell!!!

And I'll bet every single person in those organizations are eating meat, and no one is picketing about cows, chickens or pigs are they???

I didn't want to get into this side of the equation, but I will. Race does play a factor too. If this was a white athelete, would we be hearing such outrage?? hell no, and that guy would still be playing

Oh yeah one more thing. Kobe was accused of rape, and guess what, nobody asked for his suspension, Ray Lewis, obstructed justice in a case that had two people murdered . Nobody asked for his suspension, and he won a Super Bowl. But we want to kick out Michael Vick for dog fighting??

You see how fucked up this world is?? You get my point??

But that's the problem. We care more about a fucking animal than we do a human. Pretty fucking pathetic if you ask me :sowrong: :ranty: :Grrr:

Ok I just found this thread and I had to post my 2 cents about a lot of things. First off, Im an Atlanta native. Second, Im a Falcons fan. Third, I actually work closely to the Falcons (not too close). With that being said, Id like to give several opinions on the matter. Unlike a lot of people posting to this thread, Im not much of an animal lover. that doesnt mean I hate them, but their just animals to me, simple as that. they serve their purpose on the planet just like everything else on earth. I say this because I see a lot of people responding to this with the same extreme emotional outrage and most of these responses start out with "im a dog/animal lover". In my experience and observations, a lot of animal rights people can get really out of control when it comes to animals being hurt and abused. Dont get me wrong, It is absolutely disgusting how animals can be treated, but some people can go to the extremes over this. I wont name names, but some of the post here are incredibly harsh over how vick should be punished. Wanting him to kill himself or drown and die is no better than what happened to those dogs. ON THE OTHER HAND, I think natural ticklers comments are a little extreme as well. Let me take that back. what he said isnt extreme, the way he said it is. I agree with him that people make such a huge deal over animals being killed when people get murdered every day. Lets not forget our country is involved in a war that has killed thousands (FYI, more Americans have died in Iraq since this war started, than have died in the Sept. 11th attacks).

WITH THAT SAID...

I honestly beleive that Mike Vick is guilty of this crime. The way he is potrayed in the media, you can tell this is the type of thing he would be involved in. What kills me is, not only did they find dog corpses on his property, he was SEEN BUYING SYRINGES TO INJECT DOGS!
I don't know what others have heard about atlanta fans reception about this, but I have seen many people saying he is innocent and it pisses me off (if you honestly beleive he didnt do it, you must be the type to get caught in such a dumb way)

The man is arrogant and it shows. He has been shown as taking a nonchalant attitude over this, and thats cause he believes hes gonna get off. Typical. Mark my words, hes gonna pay for this. cause if he doesnt, there will be serious backlash, and the NFL isnt looking to be seen in a negative light.

I hope vick didn't do this, i'm trying not to prejudge here, but if he was seen buying the syringes, that's a pretty huge link! I would add this. i know a girl, she used to work on a pretty huge farm as a kid, almost 600 acres, an acre is (60x60 feet), and there was an illegal cockfighting setup on the farm, and her parents would never have stood for it. when they found out about it, they fired the worker responsible immediately. if you can hide all the people in a cockfighting ring, can't you do the same for dogs? still, dogs are about 5-10 times the size of a chicken, and they might need kennels, especially if it is your string of dogs.

as far as vick fucking up, let's remember o.j. simpson, a serial wife beater and murderer, carlos palomino,a great boxerw/drug problems who saw prison, mercury morris of the dolphins/drugs/prison---its a looong list.

as far as the insistence upon concentrating on human matters rather than animal ones, i find it possible to hate al-qaeda and dogfighting. i can multitask. if vick did it, mess him up asap, as hard as possible.

First off, I'm not going to flame you. This is my first response in this thread, but I figured I'd address some of the points you made. I really don't see the double standards you're conjuring up. If the defendants had been pitting humans against one another- and subsequently hanging them, electrocuting them, drowning them, etc.- I imagine there would be plenty of outrage on this board and elsewhere. More than in this case, I believe. Don't you agree?

You mention that this is just dog fighting. But I think that's the point. I have only a cursory knowledge of the subject, but if that's all the defendents were accused of, that seems pretty inhumane. Does it not? And in fact, one could argue that it's people's disregard for the animal's well being that breeds the further abuse that goes beyond fighting, as is alleged in this case.

I basically agree with you on the topic of suspending Vick. I hadn't posted in this thread because I'm willing to suspend judgment until the man has his day in court. Others are entitled to make up their minds as we're not in a court of law here- just a Tickling Forum. And, as I described in a different thread, members time is needed 'on the bench' on urgent matters such as determining whether or not a given clip is indeed tickling.

I didn't want to get into this side of the equation, but I will. Race does play a factor too. If this was a white athelete, would we be hearing such outrage?? hell no, and that guy would still be playing

If race plays a factor, as you say, than why in your other two examples of non-white athletes weren't people asking for suspensions? I'm not sure that I follow your logic. You're saying that, in the latter two cases, there were no animals involved, so people didn't care as much. So why even bring up race then?

It seems to me, that more people are inclined to feel so sad about a dog/animal dying than a human being. Now howfucked up is that?? Judging by other threads started on this forum regarding attrocities committed upon humans, I would have to disagree with you. I often hear calls for people's heads and thoughts of extreme violence leveled upon the accused in such situations. I don't subscribe to such ideas, but that's a topic best left for it's own thread.

Ummm...this isn't just about a dog dying. Thank about what was happening...I started to go into a detailed description, but I got sick to my stomach. Go read about it for yourself. Then imagine what would happen if someone were committing half of those atrocities on human beings. The uproar would dwarf this. Your assertion that people care about animals more than people just doesn't wash.

You're wrong. He'd be catching just as much hell if he were white.

Oh, I suppose it's possible that some racists enjoy seeing Vick go down. But that's a side effect, not a cause.

Your point? It seems to be that a sex when consent is unclear, or not telling the police all the details of a street fight is worse than torture, abuse, and mass killing.

did a little more reading on the vick case. seems that he may be in this spot partially because he was raised to never, ever, forget his freinds and his old neighborhood, and i t seems, his "Culture" that evidently includes dogfighting.

let's see how that works once his career is in the shredder. If holding onto my freinds included holding onto a morality that allows me to destroy animals that have had their bodies shredded for my amusement, well, they wouldn't be my freinds who had so morally defaced me, and if i were to treat other living beings in that way, I would be an unworthy freind.

jeez, you'd think collegeboy would have read about the Middle Passage, the final solution, various genocides, and realized that inhumane conditios demean everybody. anyone else remember the phrase "I wouldn't treat a dog like that?"
roll that phrase around a little. "I wouldn't"= my will, my taste, my humanity forbids me, or would haunt me with self disgust. "Treat"= act upon, perform those behaviors. "a dog"= in this case, any being, including pitbulls that he owned, and had causal responsibility for. "like that" there are behaviors thaty are unworthy of us, ANY of us.

perhaps if mr vick had actually thought that love for his fellow beings other than his homies from newport news was expected of him, and that they were worthy of it, by him, he might not be in this position.

the fact that mr. vick is soft spoken, and photogenic does not take away from his moral disconnect.
ALWAYS watch the quiet ones.

besides, he didn't throw well over the middle. he's not irreplaceable. he should have remembered that.

Right...here we go~some of us saw this coming weeks ago...I can guess what color Vick's cousin is, I have no clue nor interest in his co-horts' race. The fact they're willing to turn state's evidence against this overpaid heartless, gutless, puppy-destroying pig in a nation full of dog lovers adds just more fuel to the fire, there's a hell of a lot to this nasty story than meets the eye~more dirty laundry will be aired in the future. Stay tuned kids and grab the popcorn as Goddess would say.
