Do ya know Sarah Brightman's very first thing she ever did in 1979? Sarah Brightman And Hot Gossip with the very spacy eurodisco track "Starship Trooper".😀
To narrow the field, the best rock singers are Roger Daltry, Ronny James Deo, Paul Stanley and David Coverdale. Those guys can really belt it out, and they can sing anything.
Sara Hickman - "Claim on My Heart" is one of the most precious lilting songs ever.
Kirsty MacColl - "In These Shoes" is a song for the ages.
Tony Bennett - I find his voice to be very sexy for some reason!
Cassandra Wilson - If you haven't heard her....start tonight.
Andrea Bocelli - His voice just sticks with me, so I note it as a fave!
Emmylou Harris - Rich, just rich
Last but not least...My Dad. He has perfect pitch and fantastic range and he can sing ANYTHING from Bluegrass to the Hallelujah Chorus while playing a guitar backup. No kidding here folks. I've been involved in music since I was the tender age of 4 and he's by far the best singer I've ever heard. Sure, it's my dad, so I'm a bit bias, but I'm also a musician and a realist. He's that good.
Earlier in the thread somebody mentioned "talented vs favorite". I have many faves but when I saw talented, I thought of singers who were renowned for their voices, which is why I thought of Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond.
As far as my faves
Roger Daltry
Kevin Cronin
Geddy Lee
Billy Joel
Robert Plant
Jon Anderson
Paul Simon
Pat Benetar
Elton John
You make a good point. Odd that some of the choices I selected aren't actually my favorites.
I found in each of the persons I listed a talent for a genre. Each style dictates a particular level of talent. For example, I could not listen to "At Last" being sung by Barbara Streisand. To me, there is a rawness that tints the voice that is required to convey the lyrics apporpriately. Etta all the way there.
I guess I'd have to really choose "talent" based on the music they are singing.
Jo, apologies if that was already said....I'm loopy tonight!
Clay Aiken, come on man the dude ain't even had his cherry popped yet. He's a far cry from the best ever.
Tony Bennet
Paul Anka
Dean Martin
Whitney Houston
Luciano Povarotti
Luther Vandross
Barry White
Bing Crosby
These singers all have prolific voices. I don't listen to and am not fond of all of them but the question was best singers ever so these are my choices.😀
