munch is a silly name: why is a munch called a munch?

The term comes from "hamburger munch".

When groups, primarily BDSM, started to get together to meet publicly, it was usually at a restaurant like a hamburger joint. They could not simply state that they were a BDSM group getting together for a meet and greet, so they started coining "hamburger munches" which got shortened to "munch".

This is the short of it. I imagine someone else will fill in with a more detailed history.
 
Side note....

I have taken to specifying "meet and greet" to the newbies I invite to munches. You tell them "munch" and they tend to get a different idea. Honestly, what does "munch" sound like? LOL! 😀
 
Nothing wrong with munching on food while you talk with old friends and make new ones in the tickling community. 😀
 
It took me a while to get used to; I would have called it a "dinner." But, that's the lingo of the kinky crowd. The spankers have a munch the first Saturday of every month in New York at 5:30, and then they walk together to Paddles club to spank.
 
Of course, the only drawback (for some) is that we're munching on food rather than tummies and toes! lol

Every time I hear the word "munch" I just want to :omnomnom:.

Silly it may sound, but it's just the way things are. And I'm cool with that.
