musicians you just dont get...

Grateful Dead. I just don't get it.

Maybe it's because I don't smoke pot.

Ke$ha. I can't stand her "music".
And I'm not sure what the fascination is with Justin Beiber. His songs are okay, in my opinion, but people are going friggin insane over the kid.

Queen on other hand may just be the best band of all time.

I don't do guitar music usually, or anything non-electronic, but Queen just rocks.

Any band member who thinks they are big enough on their own to do a 'Solo project' which invariably bombs cos it sucks .

keith richards springs to mind. keith, i love ya but nowhere near the stones. oh and brandan flowers. dont like your band and i dont like you.

Please pardon my smell....

We used to have a saying in the Navy: opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one, and they all stink 😉

How true! That being said, I've never understood the appeal of:

Elvis Presley
The Grateful Dead
The Moody Blues
Van Morrison
Diana Krall
Eric Dolphy
Pharoah Sanders

...and about a hundred others I'm too lazy to mention. Then again, it took me farkin' forever to get into Dylan and I'm still sitting on the fence about Springsteen.

My hatred for bands run deep when they sing about booze, bitches, and spending tons of money on ridiculous things. I will never be able to relate to any of it.

Had I known that Justin Bieber, The Black Eyed Peas and Ke$ha were around the corner, I never would have complained about the Spice Girls back in the day. At least the Spice Girls were pop...I dunno what the fuck you call the noise emanating from the former 3.

That said, there are some legendary musicians that I never could get into no matter how hard I tried. I keep thinking that maybe I'll try again some day (and I will) but for now they're as alien to my sensibilities as scat fetishes:

Frank Zappa
Bob Dylan
Captain Beefheart
Lou Reed
Belle & Sebastian
The Who
(I like some songs, but I'd rather listen to The Doors--I know, shocking, right Doors-haters?)
Thelonious Monk
LATE Miles Davis (Bitches Brew and onward...I've tried SO hard)

...and that's all I can think of for now.

Used to be big into Zappa, Beefheart, Dylan, Doors and The Who. I get them all but now can only stand them in small doses. Not into Lou Reed, not familiar with Belle and Sebastian. I could tolerate Monk for a short time.

Not into Miles "Bitches Brew" or a lot of his 70s era, but I really like "Jack Johnson", "On the Corner" and "Dark Magnus".

theres such a thing as a doors hater? jim morrison is my idol.

I don't even know if these people qualify as "musicians":

Daniel Johnston.......truly do not get, critics can't say enough about him, other bands say they're influenced by him. Pearl Jam covered one of his songs!😕

The Shaggs......three teenage girls who couldn't play their instruments, yet their dad got them into a studio and they put out an album. And again, other musicians and critics loved them.😕

I can't stand most modern rap. It seems like all they can rap abut today is sex sex sex! Like I tell my friends when you have to start using items of food to describe sexual things you're running out of ideas. Chicken noodle soup with some soda on the side? I love the rappers that tend to rap more about life. I am a huge Eminem fan because his rhymes aren't sex driven.
