Here's to Paul McCartney, who, as a member of The Beatles and as a solo artist has given us wonderful music throughout the years! This will be the last year that he'll be able to sing "When I'm Sixty Four" and really mean it. Thanks for the music, Paul!

He's getting up there, isn't he?

The last album I bought of his was "Flaming Pie"...good album, but "Flowers in the Dirt" is my favorite Macca album of all time. An enjoyable non pretentious album of great pop songs....Elvis Costello deserves a lot of credit for helping him on that one.

Here's my favorite Paul album, although there are so many to choose from. (Funny thing... I've never listened to "Flowers In The Dirt." I guess I'm one of those 1970's music freaks)

Thats always been my favorite of his too Feather. When you stop and think about how many years he has been in the business its mind boggling. He still looks scrumptious too.

I LOVED this album~I'm the hugest fan...

Boy, do I feel old :wowzer: I haven't been a fan of his later work (pretty much anything post-Wings) but I still love to listen to the old stuff. My favorite is Wings over America, his first (of many) live album which I still pull out and pop into the CD player on a semi-regular basis. Definitely an album that you want to play LOUD!

In the 70's he was on top of his game...."McCartney","Band On The Run", "Ram" ...all great! But the 80's and 90's stuff, very hit and miss with each album.

The biggest problem with his albums are that they are lukewarm, he'll tease you with a few good pieces and make you think he's hitting his second wind, you get excited about it, and then the next song is something like "Ebony And Ivory" or "Freedom"...that's just my opinion.

It's interesting to take your faves of his throughout his solo career and put them on a mix CD it's pretty enjoyable. Conversely, if you take the ridiculous stuff he's released and put it on a mix CD, it's friggin' hilarious.

Had John Lennon lived, Paul would have had to create nothing but the best or else face John's ridicule and snide remarks. John once said that Paul "writes music for the Grannies to dig."

I have nearly all of Paul's 1970s recordings, most of it very good stuff. When I heard he later wrote a song titled "Biker Like An Icon," I got a little nervous. To be fair, the other three ex-Beatles recorded some subpar music every now and then, too. They could never live up to their Beatles legacy as solo artists. Their Beatles music is the stuff I love best.

Happy Birthday to Paul, a legend in the music business!

Mitch

I don't think he looks 63, (lucky him) and for what its worth I think he did his best stuff as a solo artist.

I won't argue with you. I love his solo stuff, too. (I'm just a hardcore Beatles fanatic) If someone wants to hear the best of the best of Paul McCartney's solo music, I highly recommend this two CD set entitled, "Wingspan." It's one of those CDs that I never get tired of listening to.

I agree with the solo comment~Wings kicked ass!

And he does look great~t's all that soggy England weather hon! 😛
Actually, he's touring now I think. At least he's on his way soon.

I can't afford the tickets but waaaaaaaaaaay back in the early 90s, I was a checkout girl and subbed at another store for a week. When I was there, I was nice to this one bag boy that the rest of the store was always being mean to. To say thanks, he took me to see Paul at UCBerkeley. Maybe one of the best shows I ever attended and for sure the biggest legend I'd ever seen up close and personal. If he comes to your area and you can afford the tix, prepare for a show that'll stay with you forever... :redheart:
XOXO

The bloke was all washed up........

.........many years ago.

Old "rock stars" just look ridiculous to me, what the hell is Mcartney" rebelling" against? he is a millionare. Who wants to see a pensioner attempting to prance about like a teenager? its like watching your parents disco dancing at a wedding.

:Grrr: Why is 63 "old"? It's not in my mind!
Yanno what? Let's see what kind of money and 30 year-old tail you have at that age. Give me a break....

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Red Indian, but why must you crap on MY lawn?

A bit harsh Red!! Should all musicians stop performing and making good music when they get to a certain age.

He always likes to stir things up, Nige. I wonder what he'll say when he realizes that Ringo Starr (who will be 65 years old on July 7) has just released a new album and performed on David Letterman and 'Good Morning America' this past week.

Good for you, Ringo!

Nah, I don't think so. I think their music can transcend all the facelifts...and I'm pretty sure Macca has had one, now if he'd just get rid of that stupid mullet he insists on wearing...

However...and this is a whole other topic...KISS should be put to sleep.

I leave the floor open to snide comments. 😉

I went to the Wings concert '76, I was a year or so out of high school. It was a "general admission" concert which means there was no assigned seating. It was at the Capital Centre in Largo Maryland later to become known as the US Air Arena, which I think is now defunct. These general admission concerts were stopped after that fiasco at The Who concert in Cincinnatti where a bunch of kids got stomped to death. My buddy and I pushed our way right up to the stage and watched the concert close up. I even made eye contact with Linda McCartney as she stood at the edge of the stage looking down at us. She looked might fine from where I stood with her blonde hair and tight faded blue jeans.

It was a long concert, and I counted five Beatles songs: I've Just Seen a Face, Blackbird, The Long and Winding Road, and Lady Madonna. He played most of the Wings hits, but I was a little bit disappointed not to here "Letting Go" from the Venus and Mars album. His horn section was awesome, especially during "Silly Love Songs."

I went to a whole slew of concerts from 1974-76, and I've always counted this one as one of the best shows ever. It was the first concert at the Capital Centre where they improved the sound dramatically by raising the speaker cabinets up high near the ceiling for better acoustics.

I agree wholeheartedly that Paul is still playing and writing great music today, and that ludicrous comment about old folks and disco really shows a depth of immaturity on the part of the commentor. Then again, what do you want from a guy who claims to be the TMF's formost authority on WWII?

Oh Dear.......

......seems I touched a bit of a nerve!

As is often the case, my posts are countered with devastating reposts to arguments and statements I did not make.

I did not, in any part of my post, suggest that " all musicians should stop performing and making music when they get to a certain age"....just ageing, washed up, millionare rock stars.

Blimey I cant believe we have a "Wings" fan on the forum!.....how did the odious comic character Alan Par tridge put it?......"Wings, the band the beatles could have been"

I strongly reccomend that any Linda Mcartney fans have themselves a bit of a "google" for a recording made by a sound engineer at a wings gig which features a live feed from Lindas vocal mike and keyboard........its absolutely pityfull, she has the musical talent more commonly associated with a small soap dish.

Band on the run? pity they ever stopped to plug anything in.
