Please Pray for My Dad

Currently, he is in the hospital again. The nursing home called this morning and told my mother he'd fallen and was choking on and regurgitating his food. My mother called me from the hospital and said he looked so bloated that he looked about ready to deliver a baby. This is very serious. The last time this happened(1988-89) he had blown a hole in his bowel and paritanitis set in. We almost lost him that year. He was healtier then. I hope that is not the case this time. Any and all prayer requests sent his way and mine would be much appreciated.

Dear Crystal,

I am at a loss of words for your father's plight, except the fact that I have been, and current am to an extent in the same boat as you are. I am speaking about my mother's massive stroke this past February, and her subsequent death on the 18th of that month. So all I can say is that your father is in my prayers and in my heart as well as the rest of your family. God Speed to you.

I'll definitely keep him in prayer. Just one question (if you care to answer). Aren't the folks at the nursing home watching his I/O and bowel activity? I've seen a lot of this over the years and it's usually something that can be avoided if proper attention is paid. Just wondering.

In that case, Crystal, I would think it would be time to take some serious legal action, or at least get your father out of that nursing home. That's my opinion.

As someone who works in a hospital, the folks here are FREAKS (in the good way) about a patient's diet.

Crydun, I know exactly how you feel at a time like this. I will keep your Dad in my thoughts and prayers.
I just looked up "prayer requests" on the Web, and there are a lot of people out there who are willing to pray for your Dad, as well. (I will not post any links because I don't know which faith you subscribe to, but for you or anyone wishing to pray for your Dad, enter "prayer request" and click the 'search Web' button, and you'll be able to submit prayers according to whichever faith you choose)(By the way, my grandmother was abused at a nursing home and we got her out of there fast.)

Sounds like it's time to report them to the local board of review to investigate things...esp. if it's on his chart and listed as a danger to him. Serious steps need to be taken...once your dad is out of danger, obviously.

update.......

Here's what I know so far,


For sure, he has pneumonia

For sure, there is a blockage in his bowel

He can't have any food or fluids(except intravaneously) and is currently in the hospital still. They are running more tests

Thanks to this community for its outpouring of support. I will keep you posted.

further update....

x-rays were done and he has a lesion on his brain, I believe in the Carteroid artery? He still has pneumonia and we're not sure about the blocked bowel. Saturday night, he had to be given two units of blood because they said his hemoglobins were too low. I didn't sleep well that night, obviously and neither did Mom.
