prayer request for a student

I would like you all to keep my student, "Debbie" in your prayers. I have had suspicions things weren't right at her place for a while and she has been confiding that things have been bothering her.. but in bits and pieces.

Now I am convinced that she and her children are being abused by her boyfriend. We are trying to help her see that she needs to get her and her children to safety. I know she has wanted to get out for a while and she is afraid.

Please pray that "Debbie" will have the strength to get the help she needs and that God will keep her and her children safe in the meantime. I also pray that her boyfriend, "Mark", get the anger management training and counseling that he needs to heal and become a better man.

In Jesus' name we pray,
Josie

Glad to hear you're doing better, Josie! I'll be keeping those you mentioned in prayer. May the Lord touch them with peace and mercy.

Ann

Glad to hear that you are doing better Josie!
Does anyone know how Michelle is doing? I tried to see if it had been posted and if is I missed it, thanks.🙂

Get Well wishes to all!

Wishing you all the best Josie! Get well wishes to Katherine and her brother, to Deborah (luv2bt&tickled sister) Michelle, John and our Venraya!
🙂 :grouphug:

Get well wishes go out to Josie, Venraya, Deborah and Katherine! Speedy recovery guys! 🙂 And for Michelle too! Get well before the holidays, Merry Christmas! :grouphug: :santasmil

For those who don't already know, Venraya is having an MRI of her leg today to find out what's going on with the knee. Surgery is a good possibility. Please join me in praying that they clearly determine what's going on and get it taken care of quickly.

Josie,

I will put them in my prayers but that is not enough in this case. If you are convinced that the children are being abused you have an obligation to report it. Call the CHILD ABUSE HOTLINE. You can report the problem annonymously. I don't know the phone number in your area, but you can find it in the phone book, or call social services.

You don't need to prove what you think is happening is correct. Just explain that you're suspicious and tell them what makes you feel that way. An expert will not just take your word for it, they'll investigate. If there's nothing wrong, nothing will be done.

Teachers, health care professionals and policemen are bound by law to report these suspicions.

You will not be doing something that hurts your student, you will be doing something to protect her children.

Look at it this way. Maybe Debbie or her children have prayed to God for help, and he sent them to you. God did his part, now you do yours. Every day you delay may be another day those kids suffer.

I've been in your situation before, and I took the advice I'm passing on to you. I'm glad I did.

May the Lord strengthen you and protect us all, especially our children.

Jim

Debbie

Hi there,

I got an email from "Butch" today, but he asked that I not respond by email... so I figured I'd address this here.

Just so you know, her children are not being physically abused, but they HAVE witnessed her being abused. She was willing to go to a local shelter, but because she lives so close to one of them, they cannot take her. I am helping her to find an apartment, in the meantime. We looked at two apartments today... one was too small, but the second was just right, and just around the corner from the babysitter she uses. If DSS will approve it, she is set. I have a bed set to let her borrow for herself or we will find a sofa with a pull out for her to use... the kids have beds already.

As for reporting it to child abuse hotline, yes I am a teacher but I also have to defer to my boss. He said that as long as she is coming to school and there are no bruises, we don't report it (she could have her kids taken away if she doesn't move out... We have a school break coming up, buy we have each other's phone numbers and I am going to help her every step along the way.

Please pray that Debbie has the strength to resist the guilt trips her bf is putting her through (he has been calm since Monday's events) and move out while it is safe to do so. Please pray that her boyfriend, Mark will get some counseling and enter a job training program so that one day he can be a good father to their daughter, Sarah. And please pray that Debbie can realize that she doesn't need her abusive boyfriend; she has the whole school community to lean on.

In God we pray,
Josie

Amen, Josie.

I'll keep up the prayers for them and for you.

You've probably already thought of this but I thought I'd mention it: By the time she makes up her mind to leave this guy she will probably have mentioned to him that she's been talking to you. If he comes knocking at your door I wouldn't open up for him. I'd tell him to go away.

Jim

re: Debbie

Well her boyfriend knows she wants to move out, and says he will go along with it and not cause problems... but at this point he's trying to guilt her into staying cuz he relies on her Social Services money to pay the heating bills. I told her that she has to worry about her and the kids first... that he still has his parents around to help him, but she doesn't have that luxury (her parents passed a while back).

I can understand why she feels like she should take care of him in a way... they have been together 15 yrs... that is a long time... though she wants the abuse to end, she is used to this. It's nuts but it's the truth. I just hope the tension of Christmas doesn't get to her bf.

Josie

Josie

It's not nuts, its a well documented syndrome. You won't find any professional who deals with this situation that will be in the least surprised by Debbie's actions.

She will probably need counselling, or she won't stay gone even if she does move out.

Don't you get hurt by getting too involved with this lady and her problems. (Easier said than done, I know.) Help her when she's ready of course, but protect yourself and your family too.

Jim

Josie thanks, your friend and her children will be in my prayers.

I am saddened to hear this, and yet it goes on all the time. Mostly unnoticed or falling through the crack holes. I pray that they are safe now, and will remain safe!
FT, this was a great thread to start! Thank you!

Well, we're coming hard into Christmas/New Years. This is the time of year that emergency response people call "the silly season". The suicide rate always skyrockets. Lots of folks feel depressed this time of year. I'm not one of them, but I'll bet money a few on this board are.

I'm going to say a prayer everyday from now through New Years that those who are depressed this season find hope. Please join me in this prayer.

Does anyone know how Lori and little Mandy are doing? They are still in my prayers. I hope that helps cheer them up.

kurchatovium, thanks for asking

Lori is not in very good spirits still, she was told that Mandy is not responding to the treatments. Lori made sure that this would Mandy's bestest Christmas. And a few of us saw that Lori had a few surprises!
It's tough watching your baby go through so much, you are basically helpless!

I would like to say "thank you" to you all that remembered both Lori and Mandy in your prayers! Thank you so much! God bless you all!

Katherine

I guess I'll have to pray a little harder for the both of them. Thanks for the info slave4tickles I wish it were better news though.

Many thanks to you kurchatovium!

I talked to Lori this morning, she seemed in much better spirits! You could almost here the happiness in her voice as we spoke. She told me that Mandy had a good night, which she doesn't have many and that was a blessing!🙂 Mandy has several more treatments, and then 2 weeks off.
Thank you so much for remembering them in your prayers! That means a lot to me!
🙂 :grouphug: :bouncybou :happyfloa

I am so glad things are looking up for Lori and Mandy. I will continue to pray for them. Let them know that where there is love there is always hope. I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic at heart. Not bad for a stuffy conservative though huh. 😀

God Bless You, slave4tickles without you as a friend and without your love there would be a lot less sunshine in their lives.

Update on Lori and Mandy

I just talked to Lori and she told me to say thank you to all who have prayed for her and Mandy. Lori's spirits are up because Mandy is doing better.

Thank you all for all your prayers and support!🙂

Thanks for letting us know Katherine

I am glad that both Mandy and her Mom are doing better. Please give them both my best, I hope that things will keep looking up for them.🙂

Glad to hear that they are doing better, thanks for the update Katherine. I will keep them in my prayers.🙂

I have a prayer request. My goodfriend was coming home from her brother's funeral up state and when she got home she had to be rushed to the ER, where she had a massive heart attack🙁 She is in surgery now for a triple bypass. Her name is Mary, please say a prayer for her and the doctors. I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Henry
