Great news, Adam!!! A 95% - 98% survival rate means 100% regarding the cancer....The doctor needs to reduce the odds to cover his or her own ass. In theory, one can die during a simple procedure such as removing tonsils; hence the 95% rate.

You guys are all so incredibly awesome. Thank you. Mom went for her pre-op physical today and everything turned out well. Surgery a week from tomorrow. I will be praying that everything goes well and that mom will be 1000% cancer free, never to return, by the time this entire ordeal is over for her.

Well, tomorrow is the big day. I want to clear something up that I flubbed big-time. The surgery itself is actually expected to take around 2 and a half hours. Not a grueling 8 hours, as I had originally posted. The hospital stay, itself, is expected to be somewhere in the 8 hour range. Sorry, my parents and I sometimes have communication issues. Nevertheless, that's definitely good news, as it means mom can probably come home the same day. As always, hoping all goes perfectly.

hey good luck m8 my thoughts and prayers to ur mum. i lost mine to the big c when i was three but i no a few people who have beat it. there has been so much progress as far as fighting cancer is concerned. make sure every1 stays possitive- ur mum will be fine

Hey everybody. Apologies for the slow response time. The last few days have been rather busy. Mom's surgery went very well. The doctors did need to remove the lymph nodes on the left side, which were not cancerous yet, but were apparently headed that way. Mom wasn't too happy about that initially, but a huge weight has been lifted from her shoulders just knowing that the two confirmed growths are now out of her. She was really knocked out on painkillers when we first brought her home, but after a good night's rest, she was back to her normal self the next day. She does have a fluid drain that she needs to monitor and will have to take it easy with that left arm of hers, but otherwise, she's in only minimal discomfort and doing good. The percocet is here if she should need it, but so far she has not.

After a few weeks of healing time, it looks like round 2 of treatment will begin. So it's definite radiation therapy for now, but I'm hopeful that mom can avoid the chemo. But whatever happens, mom has said that she's going to do whatever is necessary to make sure the cancer stays dead. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Doing good. 🙂 She may be able to have her fluid drain removed tomorrow, which will make her a heck of a lot more comfortable. Thank you to each and every one of you, again. This community really is full of some good, caring people.
