I know this is going to annoy a lot of you, but Jesus Marion Joseph do you really need a one page long signature for your posts people? I'm reading replies that are one sentence long and then 20 to 30 lines of text and graphics for a signature.

Okay that is my rant, go ahead and kidnap this thread, make longer signatures to annoy me etc, I just wanted to say it was getting out of hand in my view and I sometimes don't read things because the signatures get too "in the way-ie."

I actually agree wiht you Bagel. Problem is, how do we know when it's too big?

Now that you mention it, some of the sig. lengths are quite silly.

Some forums I've been on actually have a rule for sigs. The general consensus was something like "if you have to scroll up to or more than a page's worth to get to the next post, then its too long."

I agree, and figure that a signature with perhaps one or two gifs which are wider than they are taller are ok. This not only saves time and bandwidth, but pages load even faster when there aren't so many animated gifs and such.

We need to understand thought that for some people here signatures are really important, and for some it creates a sense of self-identity online. I myself keep mine simple, simply advertizing my art. I once thought about creating a banner for my art, and I'll do that and add it to my sig. sometime.

I think the middle ground is for us to consider how important it is for some people and for those people to consider that it is annoying and they might tone it down a bit for the rest of us.

I honestly think some of them aren't even aware of any problem their sigs may be imposing on others. And if this thread makes them aware of it and brings it to their attention, all the better.

I'm sure something reasonable can be worked out. 🙂

Would it be possible to install some sort of software plugin which would require that each post a person makes be at least as long as their signature, or they can't post their message?

*knows nothing of software or coding whatsoever*

As of right now, other than something that constitutes a GR violation, there is no regulation on signatures. If they really bother you, there is an option to simply shut off signatures from showing. But then, you're cutting out the good stuff too. Leave them on and you can see the good stuff and do your best to ignore the rest. Shut them off and all you'll have is the post itself. It's your choice of what you'd like to do.

That having been said, those who have long sigs who read this may want to consider these opinions. But, again, it's your choice.

If things get too out of hand, action will be considered. For now, it's simply a minor annoyance to some.

I agree with you, Bagelfather, the signature size should be restricted. A suggestion: The size of the Magic Touch ad on top of the page. How about that?

LOL LIME!

I'm with Ann~I never really notice, friends...

XOXO

For example, everyone that has posted here thus far, in my opinion, has a perfectly sized signature. Theres some text and a graphic of some kind. Most people, from my experience, tend to find that thats enough for them.

One thing that is really annoying is reading a long post and then having to scroll past an equally long signature. Theres nothing "minor" about that. I'd imagine its an inconvienience, however great or small.

I think some people who are taking their sig. lengths too far need to ask themselves why they have such long sigs in the first place. Because surely, its not about me or others being so annoyed that we want to disable sigs. I'm hardly annoyed, and when there is annoyance its only over the clear violators of what I consider too much. On the contrary, I like viewing them, and I shouldn't have to disable them to work around this when only a handful of sigs are a problem. Rather, these people should be willing to change things a little. But clearly the more ridiculously sized ones are an eyesore. And people with such sigs which are too flashy or showy and distracting should at least consider perhaps toning them down. If they refuse, then I wonder what their mentality on the issue is and why its so important for them to have such long sigs, whats the point. If they can't answer the question or there is no honest answer to give, or there is an answer but its not relevant to having such a long sig. in the first place, then I think something should be done.

At this point in time the only rules I have about sigs are:

1) If you use them to attack or insult you loose the ability to have a sig.

2) Grpahic size. Imkages should be no bigger then the TMF logo as a rule, File sizes should be under 100k preferd size is under 30k. I find images in sigs that violate these rules they are removed and charming note by me pops up in their place.

I'm not a huge fan of sigs that are longer then a full screen. I feel ideal size is about the size of the MTP banner above. But I'm not a fanatic about this and choose to let people do what they want lengthwise, mostly because it harms no one, and hitting the space bar to scroll past the sig is no major hardship to me. So unless numbers of people start to have serious issues with the length I'm inclined to let them stay as they are now.

The signatures don't really bother me. As a matter of fact, I think they give an idea of the persons personality and other interests as well.

You know what they say about opinions...

"...everybody's got them, and they all stink." (The G-rated version) 😛

Every now and then, the Signature Nazis rear their heads. They're entitled to their opinions. Just like it annoys a great many of us having to translate the gobbledygook of the spelling-challenged and the grammatically-impaired. So, like Ann says... ya don't like it, turn them off so you don't hafta deal.

So shush, ya pinkos! 😀

Lighten up, Bagelfather. As they said, you can turn them off.

Thanks for the heads up about that as I just did. I find many of them mildly annoying.

LMAO! 😛
How were those leftovers Mister? (I got chewed out for not bringing home cheescake!) 🙄

Still yummy enough for breakfast!

And he could've ASKED you to bring home some friggin' cheesecake when you called him, ya know... 🙄 Now shush... you're hijacking AGAIN!

If my sig's too long, just holler and I'll make it shorter.
