Oy. So, it seems I have sleep apnea.

After looking at medical websites and such, symptoms listed are exactly what I experience every night. Combine that with Asthma and the weather going crazy here, and you got me smoking a cigarette while doing a breathing machine, which, apparently can apparently blow up.

So, sleep apnea, how the fuck do I cure it/deal with it? Tonsil removal is an option according to some sites, but is the surgeory and shutting up for a few days worth it?

Any input is appreciated.

You can get thingies to stick into your mouth that keep your breathing working properly or nosethingies that open your nostrils as an alternative source of breathing.

Cure: Go to a doctor and make sure you have it first of all. They can help you, it's what they are there for.

To many people try to self cure and end up messing themselves up.

Good point. Doctor will probably give you those breathing thingies or get you surgery.

I have had it for six years. It is easy to manage. Simply see your doctor and have him or her order a sleep test. They will monitor your breathing and see how bad you have this disorder. They will put a breathing mask on you and adjust it to you accordingly. This machine forces the air down your throat. It is not pure oxygen, just filtered air. It opens up the breathing tubes and that is that. The machine is called a C-PAP and it has done wonders for me. If you have any other questions just hit me up.

I suffer from Sleep Apnea, and pretty much agree with everything Texas says. Go see your doctor.

I can't tell you how to cure yourself/ my best advice would be to go to a sleep center. There are 2 major types of Sleep Apnea, visiting a sleep center could help determine which one or if it is another problem all together.

I once dated a girl who has sleep apnea and the only advice I can give is pretty much verbatim what texastickler has suggested. Follow his cue.

How's your weight? (You don't have to asnwer, just think about it, because it most likely plays in) A lot of my patients w/sleep apnea, asthma, DM etc. are heavier than they should be. You don't have to be humongous to fit the profile but I've never met a "medically acceptable weight" patient who suffers from it. And I'm with Texas~go see your doc.
XOXO

What Texastickler said is exactly right. A friend of mine has the same problem. He has the sleeping mask (doesn't use it though because it keeps him from sleeping!), and he got surgery done to his nose and throat, but apart from keeping him in the hospital for weeks, it didn't do anything at all to make it better!

I'm 6'1 about 158, so I don't think weight is the problem.

It's mostly my smoking, I'd say. I'm not quitting, though.

Ok then, you'd be my first skinny guy w/sleep ap, congrats!:makingalist:

Just realize though that smoking ANYTHING is going to compromise your airway/lung efficiency and such related problems. Only you can decide if it's worth it. As a lifelong insomniac, me personally, I'd give up anything if it meant I could get a good night's sleep, because I almost never do.
XOXO

This is a deadly thing. At least follow up with the doctor my friend. My oxygen level went from 98 to 89 from awake to sleep. Take care of yourself and if you need any more info just let me know.

Having your tonsils removed at a later age is worse than having them removed during childhood. It is more difficult to heal when you're older. I wish I had them removed when I was a kid. I, myself, think that I have sleep apnea. I snore--SEVERELY grind my teeth when I sleep, don't have trouble falling asleep but have trouble staying asleep--I moan--and I hold my breath for an extensive period of time.

Sleep apnea--in some cases--is fatal. I will have to be tested soon.

My oxygen went as low as 75 sometime last week, but that was when I was wide awake. I guess the smoking is catching up to me, and I'm only 20. EH, fuck, I'm gonna get an appointment to see a doc and figure out how to fix myself.

Good idea my friend. Good luck.

I swear by my CPAP. Get tested, see what they recommend, and do that.
