By now, everyone who has read my posts knows my situation. Except for every other weekend, I wont have access to my computer until mid July. I've heard about Smartphones, but.. even though I've been online for nine years now, and know how to use the internet, I'm ignorant about Smartphones, and how they work.

If anyone has any tips, or advice.. it would be appreciated. Thanks.

They have very small laptops too called netbooks. If you have a Wifi or high speed internet you can use one of them. They only run about 400 dollars I think. Might be cheaper then a smartphone with a contract. 🙂

Thanks for the advice, kurch. I'll look into your suggestion.

if ya have boostmobile there they have smartphones and its 50 a month unlimited talk, text, web, email

300 is a lot. Yes, I most definitely will shop around.

I love my iPhone!! I have a net been that I used in school and also at work we use net books. They are good but they are also slow. The processors in them are much slower then a traditional computer. But for general internet use they aren't bad. Using a net book would be cheaper then using a data plan and no contract. A few cell phone places sell internet that you can get on via your computer. Other companies such as Clear Internet primarily market for mobile internet. Quiet a few places have do have wifi (like McDonals) where you could get on it for free. Good luck!🙂

Thanks, InspectorJapp, I'll check into it.

Glad you love your IPhone, Homer. I will check into it. Thanks for the Good Luck wishes.

The laptop computer costs several hundred dollars. You can use them in your motel room, bars and restaurants and coffee shops have access capabilities, I even saw a girl at McDonalds using one.

Thanks, carl. I've seen laptops, and know one can use them anywhere.

My reason for not being sure, is that my cousin is a "techie", so to say. My aunt told me that my cousin advised me to get a Smartphone. I'm not sure whether he's saying that because he feels it will be cheaper for me, and still be useful.. or what his reasoning is.

I have a feeling that for your usage, a netbook would be better than a smartphone. Don't get me wrong, smartphones have a butt-ton of utility--they're small and convenient, but netbooks can be, as well, and your cell network is gonna charge you more each month to upgrade to a smartphone data plan. Also, the battery life of many smartphones leaves a bit to be desired. They're also better utilized when used in conjunction with a computer. Just my opinion. I could be wrong, though. Perhaps we'll end up losing you for a few months to an Angry Birds addiction on a new Android or iPhone. 😛 Good luck with whatever you decide, though!

Thanks for the advice, Flat. I will look into what you said, and will compare the Smartphone to the netbook. Oh, and as long as I have internet access, no one is losing me, lol. I'll be here unless some catastrophic problem develops with my mom.

Anything that is considered a ''smartphone '' will be a battery eater bigtime. Be prepared to charge them every day .

I just talked to a guy that pays $60.00+ a month for his smartphone.
