So... who saw this one coming?

Anyone want to take bets on when he's going to come back to life?

As a life long Captain America fan (although I stopped reading the comics years ago) I was a little saddend by Marvel's decision to do this. But then again Steve Rogers as Cap had run its course and it was time to introduce a new character.
Not to mention Marvel has given the green light for a GOOD MOVIE featuring Captain America, and from what I understand they did not want to go the "original" route via WW2, Nazi's, frozen in ice...yada yada yada.
They wanted to make Captain America cool, and more "today" with the success of X-Men, Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four.
I think they thought this was the best way to accomplish it.
I think they could have done more.

Best to ya Cap!!

Will he be back.....as Steve Rogers, probally not....
But he will be back.

Rob

After "Civil War", either him or Iron Man was gonna get shafted one way or another. Guess Cap lost the toss.

They tried another Cap before...when John Walker, the "Super Patriot" was hand picked by the government to replace Steve Rogers, who refused to become a "government man". Cap took on the black costume and shield, becoming "The Captain". Walker was successful for awhile, till his parents were murdered by a nutso militia group. Walker slaughtered the group, going nuts in the process.

Anyway, later on in the series, the government realized their error, and Rogers was allowed to do his own thing with his original costume and shield. Walker went to be a part of the unspectacular group "Forceworks".

Rogers isn't dead....sales are down, that's all 😛

Will they bring him back to life like they did with Superman?

I'm sure they will. The real questions IMHO, are:

1:WHEN will they bring him back?
2: Will it be a good story, or will it be some stupid, lame plot ?
And 3: Will anyone even give a rat's ass, since superheroes seem to be killed then brought back alot more than they used to?

-Someone made a fan-fic making fun of that , with x-men being interviewed about one of their member's deaths. They weren't sad, because, as some of them put it, some of them have been killed before.(I don't remember where I read the fan-fic that made fun of the heroes being killed and brought back...it was a few years ago that I read it..it was hilarious, though)

Not exactly the same, but this flash pretty much makes the same point.

Actually . . . he might not be dead. Apparently in another comic book also released yesterday a character makes reference to the assassination and says that Steve isn't dead. The Super Soldier Serum was stronger than expected and he's somewhere else being patched up. The plot thickens.

This is why the only comic I read is Cable & Deadpool. If someone kills Deadpool then he's up and running in half a minute, and you never have to worry about Cable being offed because the guy's a walking plot device. Unkillable characters isn't anything unique to that particular comic but at least the creators are honest about it.

Brings back the old marvel comic memories for me. by the way, is that dennis rodman in that photo?

Sure its my fault that i am behind and reading the comics online but i am annoyed that yesterday radio and whatnot had to play the role of spoiler on this

I did and didnt see it coming. It was inevitable that there would be a final show down between iron man and capt'n and marvel even said one would die and marvel has stated "Those who die, will stay dead"

Its saddening though, marvel has killed off the embodiment of the american spirit

Also, deadpool being the worlds largest smartass makes him invaluable 🙂

Eh. They may try someone else as Cap for a while, but ultimately, I think fans will revolt or nostalgia will take over, or both (a la the Kyle Rayner/Hal Jordan Green Lantern debacle), and we'll see that the "Super Soldier Serum" is more powerful than we all thought -- like Wolvie's healing factor.

Steve Rogers will be back.

Thinking about this all day and reading through some of the threads made me think of something.
Perhaps they are going to bring back Steve Rogers as Cap. After all, Cap's knock is that he really has NO superpowers. Just training, peak human strength, speed, endurance, and that damn shield. But yet he can go toe to toe with some of the biggest baddest nasties and never seems to lose. I mean a long time ago him and Wolverine went at to a draw.
Perhaps they are going to show him as something a little more. To make him more on Par with the others in the Marvel Universe....
Just a thought.............

But Silver Surfer could still kick all of their asses and have time for a snack.

But Silver Surfer could still kick all of their asses and have time for a snack.

What are his powers anyway? Besides he couldn't even defeat zombie superheroes :devil2:

He was the original Herald of Galactus, as I recall. I understand he's in the upcoming FF sequel.

As for his powers, this what the Marvel Universe has to say:
The Silver Surfer wields "the power cosmic," absorbing and manipulating the universe's ambient cosmic energies. He can augment his strength to incalculable levels, and is almost totally indestructible. He can navigate space, hyperspace and dimensional barriers, and can fly at near-limitless speeds on his board, entering hyperspace when he exceeds light speed. He has even proven capable of time travel on occasion. The Surfer does not require food, drink, air or sleep, sustained entirely by converting matter into energy. He is immune to temperature extremes and most radiation, and can survive in vacuum environments such as outer space and hyperspace. He can analyze and manipulate matter and energy, and restructure or animate matter at will, even transmuting elements. He can heal living beings (though he cannot raise the dead), and has proven capable of revitalizing or evolving organic life on a planet wide scale. He can alter the size of himself or of other matter, cast illusions, fire energy blasts, form and manipulate energy constructs, manipulate gravity, absorb and discharge most forms of energy, and phase through solid matter. His senses enable him to detect objects and energies light years away, and to perceive matter and energy in subatomic detail; he can even see through time, and with concentration can achieve limited perception of past and future events in his general vicinity. The Surfer has demonstrated limited telepathic ability on occasion, and has proven able to influence human emotion and sensation.
