Now I get to argue with the bank about paying overdraft charges.

God dammit.

What bank? And call me retarded but with all the security nowadays is it still possible for them to do much? Don't you also need last four of your social, last 3 digits on the back of the card, zipcode, that sorta thing? To buy anything at all?

No clue, all I know is they got enough that they could rack up over $80 worth of overage charges in the last week.

It's deactivated now, I just need to go through all the bullshit of getting this taken care of and hopefully getting the money back.

Oh crap. Best of luck. Happened to me once. I'm with Wells Fargo. After the first time, if I buy anything out of the ordinary, they shut my card down and I have to call them. I *should* be annoyed because it's happened a lot, but I appreciate them doing it.

Hope you get it back. I see no reason why you shouldn't. And if you don't, maybe switch banks. Some have better security than others.

Same thing happened to my sister last week. She called the company that charged her and they wouldn't even tell her what was bought.

Found out what it was. Apparently some "Home ID Protect" service and something about magazines were taking 20 30 50 and 60 dollars out every other day.

For some reason I don't think I'm getting my money back.

Sorry to hear that. I kind of know what you're going through. A couple of years ago, someone hacked my (100% positive feeback) eBay account, locked me out of it by changing my password and listed 100 X-Box 360's. I had to fight and argue wtih eBay administration to get them to temporarily close the account. When it was all said and done, they didn't press charges and refused to conduct an investigation which led me to believe that it was an inside job.

I joined lifelock. im not taking any chances, especially with identity fraud running rampant.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you! 🙁

It's also a lot harder to dispute debit card transactions than credit card transactions. Most credit card companies will credit the account back with little to no questions asked. Banks are a lot harder to deal with, though, and it could take months to get that money back, once they're satisfied with investigating it to death.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope everything gets cleared away soon for you!

Hope you get your money back. :dropatear
I got my number stolen too a few months ago, but luckly I was able to catch the idiot on the act thanks to a very smart friend. :innocent:
I got robbed for 630€ (~$950usd) but I got them back with interest and a few more extras if you know what I mean. :dropem: :slap:

Was debit, but we found out it wasn't an individual using it but some fuckers were charging me every other day for shit I didn't sign up for, so now they're looking into it. Got a lawyer just to be safe. Gonna see what happens.

I couldn't find the original article that I was looking for, but Bob Sullivan has a LOT of valuable information regarding scams, identity theft, bad business practices, etc. You can find a lot of good information HERE.

He's given pretty good advice, in the past, such as that you shouldn't use a debit card for anything. You should instead use a credit card for your daily purchases, paying off the balances at the end of the month from your bank account. If your credit card information gets stolen, it's a lot easier to dispute and get credited for than a debit transaction.
