Okay. Replace measles-infested Nigerians with smallpox-infested people everywhere before the WHO mandated smallpox vaccination. Same difference.

Studies show that, as far as viruses are concerned, it's not a question of how healthy one is - it really is luck of the draw.
The only factor that your immune system plays is that if/when you do contract a virus, it determines how likely you are to die from it (hence why lots of people get seasonal flu, but the only ones truly at risk are the very old, and very ill). If you do catch it, you're still a carrier, and thus a risk to society at large.

Looking at the bigger picture, I would say that the flu shots aren't a bad idea after all...

I found this regarding flu vaccine side effects from the 1976 swine flu scare.....

I try to avoid things like this if at all possible. So no, I won't be getting vaccinated.

Lived through that...didnt get a shot....the vaccine was rushed and untested..

I have ALWAYS avoided vaccines for the flu....never put much faith in them...that being said..I will get the H1N1 shots this time around...

I have also ALWAYS been adamantly against mandatory vaccinations of any kind without proof of safety and effectiveness...so the choice is yours to make....

Whatever that choice is, I pray we have a lot less deaths from this than what the current projections show....:paranoia:

How does the level of urgency to get the shot today compare to that period of time and what was everyone's outlook on the situation back then?
