Congrats to Jeff Burton. His win was well deserved and loooong overdue. And as for talks about seeing the black #3 out on the track again....I dunno how I feel about that. I don't think anyone should be able to use that number ever again except for perhaps Dale Jr. It would be very odd to see it at first, but I think eventually most fans would be very happy to see the #3 cruising around the track again....but I wonder, how does Dale Jr really feel about that?

Word is it will be black and red and carry Budweiser as the sponsor. Harvick would stay in the black Goodwrench Chevy. So not as spooky as it would first seem. I imagine Dale Jr feels just fine about it. I imagine he'd see it as honoring his daddy. He's never been spooky about his dad's death really. Daytona is his favorite track even though his dad died there. He had no trouble running the black paint scheme on his number 8 on father's day this year. Now THAT was spooky.

I'm torn on resurrecting the 3. Big E was my favorite driver and it seems like the number 3 should always mean Big E. But I'm not sure Nascar should retire numbers. It's up to RCR anyway- they paid to register that number and they've continued to hold it all this time.

My pennies worth here. I actually would like to see the 3 turning left again. I understand the sentiment of his fans, but I can't imagine any better testament than to see his number driven as an active racer. I will ask what you think Earnhart would have thought about retiring that number? I agree LK seeing the black 8 was different but I did like it. I don't think theresa was in agreement to anyone including Jr using the number. I do think it would be sad to see it not running up in the top group. It was kind of sad when Big E didn't do wo well, back when he was racing. Oh well. No change necessary.

i think earnhardt jr. is making a name for himself in the 8. i think it would be great for jr to be in the 3, but i think people will easily remember him as the driver of the #8 budweiser chevy under DEI. that's just the way i see it.

It's not up to Theresa. RCR owns that number, not DEI. And JR and Theresa haven't really ever seen eye to eye, which is why I imagine he'd be happier at RCR. Remember Dale Sr never raced for DEI either, he owned it. Just like Kevin Harvick owns his own race team, but races for RCR.

I think SR would be pleased to see JR with RCR and in the 3.

congrats. to tony on the win at kansas. also to the 2nd place at knoxville saturday night(9-30) in his late model dirt car.

ROFLMAO...Such a commanding lead he coasted across the finish line with no gas. I've never seen such a thing. And Mears too! What a crack up!

Yeah, I damn near died watching that, it was so funny. Lucky for Stewart he had that 17 second lead or he would've been screwed. Definitly one of the more memorable finishes I've ever seen.

has anyone heard anything about jack rouch talking to boston red sox owner (john henry) and his group about buying at least part of rouch racing?

i did hear about that, and it wouldn't suprise me if more teams have more companions to help out other teams in nextel cup. oh, did everyone hear also about mark martin leaving roush? it might be sad, but i think he did what he needed to do. he is driving for mb2 motorsports for 22 races next season.

well it's a night race tonight..i love night races..

and did Dale Earnhardt get injured in last week's crash?

No, he wasn't hurt. And on top of that, he was a class act about the whole thing. He's getting so much like his dad.

MAN, I wish I could've heard what Mark was saying after he got wrecked! I was in a bar and couldn't hear it but he looked PISSED.

And poor Jeffy blew his motor....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA lk70 said the only thing that would've made it better was if when he blew it, he would've taken Jimmy Johnson with him, and I totally agree.

well i didn't see poor Mark wreck..but i did see Dale Jarrett..and was he ever pissed..which is rare for him..i've never seen him lose his temper..i couldn't stay up for all the race..and wowow were there ever wrecks constantly..i knew there would be, with that narrow lane..even during the first lap..so who won? and tsk tsk Slacker..i like Jimmy...

Lots of cautions in both the Busch and Cup race this weekend. The Busch race also had three red flags and went 204 laps. It was really wacky too- all sorts of things needing to be reviewed by Nascar while the cars just sat on the track and waited.

I didn't get to watch the Cup race as closely due to some happy distractions but I think I could have my back to a tv and still sense when there's smoke coming from Gordon's car. It's like this warm fuzzy feeling that creeps over me....ok I'll stop. But slacker quotes me correctly- someday I hope to see the 24 and 48 take each other out and I'll be one happy camper.

Oh and Izzy- be happy you didn't see Mark's crash. It was a DOOZY. He hit the wall so hard the car went airborn for just a little bit. A really hard hit.

I'm predicting Burton for the championship. I know- big leap isn't it?

Funny you should say that because I distinctly remember I wasn't even looking at the tv and suddenly I turned my head and saw that smoke coming from his car. It really WAS a warm fuzzy feeling to see that. Luckily, I didn't get to hear his whining about it afterwards.

And you're right izzy, DJ did look mad. I've seen it happen a few times before, but usually he's pretty funny when he gets mad. Didn't get to hear his comments either. But considering where i was at the time, I'll take the lack of sound any day.

Update: I just read about Mark's interview on nascar.com. I agree with the reporters...he should get checked for head injuries. Here I thought he was mad and instead he was smiling and saying the Cup just wasn't meant for him and talking about how much fun he was having. Damn, that hurts that he got pushed away from a championship yet again. I need a hug. 🙁

Big group hug for everyone who wanted to see Martin get the championship...

Maybe Kasey Kahne wasn't the only winner during this particular Nascar race. :woot:

Hush you.

I am hushed and we'll see how long that lasts :bump: , appropriately, Ms. 70.

And I say that for the next 5 races I am going to be a J Burton fan. Good guy that does it the right way, in my humble opinion.
