The Self Referential Thread

Cutting their own salaries would be welcome (by me). Also cutting the basketball coach's salary would be most welcome. 😀 😛

That was an easy choice. The men's head basketball coach is the highest paid employee of all. 😱
😀 😛

I find it incredible and disturbing but it's true. That basketball coach gets paid more than the Dean of the Law School, more than the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, more than the University President, and more than any of the other Vice Presidents and Deans. 😱

😀 😛

I guess sports is more important than education 🙁

😀 😛

That's what is so depressing. They value running the varsity basketball program higher than they value any job actually related to education. 🙁

Yea I have always felt the same way. God forbid you actually teach kids something they can use to earn a living.

😀 😛

Are we a university that has sports teams or a collection of sports franchises that teaches courses on the side? The budget speaks differently than the mission statement.

It certainly seems that the business of sports supercedes the job of teaching at most universities. Sad to say. :sowrong:

😀 😛

Yes, it is rather sad. Worse, it's true at both public and private institutions.

True and its the same message reinforced in the profressional sports world. Guy can hurt someone or kill a bunch of animals and hey its ok he gets a slap on the wrist and before you know it they are back playing with a contract worth millions. :sowrong:

😀 😛

Although I don't follow NFL news I couldn't help but hear of the case involving dog fighting to which you refer.
😀 😛

Sports does give the masses something to watch over 😀 😛

True and I do watch a lot of football. I just wish they would send out a better message for the kids.

Yes I dont think he should have been let in. There are others though too that were let in after assualting people or other crimes. What message does that send out to young people. You can mess up bad and still be worth millions. Seems wrong to me. 🙁

Yes, we taxpayers in NYC are helping to pay for two new stadiums that opened this year. 🙁
😀 😛

What gets me is when stadiums are built with taxpayer money 🙁

😀 😛

Yes fortunately here in LA we turned down a few NFL teams that might have come here but they wanted some super duper stadium build at our expense. 🙁

😀 😛

Right. L.A. is the largest city in the U.S. without an NFL team. 😀 😛
