Yes, union votes doomed Ohio. But I think the GOP could still have won with a young, popular Hispanic Republican as Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket. They might have carried Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, and Iowa.

The electoral scene has changed since 2000. CA, NY, IL all goto the Dem candidate. Bush only won 2000 election by about 550 votes. 😱 He only won in 2004 since he took Ohio otherwise Kerry would have won. Obama won in 2008 because he carried most of these swing states.
The modern scene is such that a Rep, needs to carry almost every state other then the ones on the west coast and north east to make up for not having a chance in those states. 🙁
The biggest problem was not nominating a true conservative like Cain, Palin, Santorum or even Rubio. Romney and McCain are very liberal Republicans for the most part.
