The Self Referential Thread

Greetings, Kurch. :wavingguy
I'm fine today and hope that all is well with you. 😀 😛

I'm glad to hear that. I did a lot of errands today and I feel caught up with things. 😀 😛

Indeed, your graphics are unique in that I've never seen anybody else's that resembled them. 😀 😛

It will help you detect plagiarists in the future, too. 😀 😛

Yea that is an excellent point. That is almost like a watermark. 😛

An example of a physical watermark can be seen in one of my ad pics in my sig. The one that says KTT Imagination To The Third Power. 😀 😛

I see, a smaller version of that can be added to an image to be sold. 😀 😛

Yes. The trouble is when its too small it can easily be cut out of the image and then the image can be used as if it were created by the person who editied it. Thus digital watermarks are safer in that sense cause it is likely you never even know they are there. 🙂

😀 😛

Can digital watermarks be detected reliably if an image has been somewhat edited? 😀 😛

Yes a digital watermark is engrained into the file digitally. You can cut and edit all you want but the binary watermark remains the same. You dont see a digital watermark its added into the binary of a picture file itself. 😀 😛

In that case, they are a wonderful protection for creative artists. 😀 😛

You would think so. But in actuality it does not do much good as the digital watermark does not track where an image goes so you need to find the stolen piece yourself then use special software to read the digital watermark and take legal action. Also no one looks at images for digital watermarks mainly ccuase you need the software to read it so for the most part even if someone stole it no one would bother to look for the watermark. 🙁

😀 😛

Oh, you have to search for it yourself if you think somebody has stolen your work. 🙁

Yea which makes it more or less useless. I think if you subscribe to a service they will look for the watermarks for your art and do tracking. It is very expensive I think though like 400 or 500 a year. 🙁

😀 😛

That sounds too expensive. 🙁
😀 😛

Yea I thought so too. 🙁 Someone wise here said its best to think of Art on the internet as having a limited shelf life. It has a period off which you can earn money off of it then its gone. It is way too difficult to stop plagerists unfrtunately.

😀 😛
