Yes I know. There is a place that makes a super surge protector that supposedly keeps your stuff safe even from a direct lighting strike. Those units are too expensive and big for me though. 🙂

The super ones use a bank of very high capacitance capacitors. They are hooked up so in the event of a strike the excess charge get dissipated to them and then slowly discharged through the ground. 🙂

A direct strike is scary. It can fry a system even if its unplugged.
