The Self Referential Thread

Very bad indeed. Very toxic. That's why every member of Congress who voted to ban incandescent bulbs should be thrown naked onto a stack of compact fluorescent bulbs with mercury in them, breaking the bulbs and getting mercury all over their skin. :rowfull:

😀 😛
Sounds good to me 😀 😛

We have been told mercury is bad since what? The 70's? Now they want to use it again? WTF?

I iz back.

I had this argument with RED. He tried to say "Well its only a speck of mercury" I said "Dont play games with me you and I both know mercury's density is like 14 times that of water so that speck is about 5 mg which is a lot for something as toxic as mercury."

😀 😛

Welcome back my friend. 🙂 RED?

Anyway the point is Mercury is toxic and since the metal is a liquid it can quickly roll to places that make it difficult to find. Sometime it falls through little holes or cracks in the floor and slowly evaporates into the air. I have heard of dentists offices that had large pools of mercury underneath the floor boards.

You are correct, Kurch. The instructions for cleaning up if you drop and break one of those compact florescent bulbs involve extensive decontamination. 😱
Thanks. :ty:

Redmage.
He is on my Ignore List.

😀 😛

Ah,OK. Have not seen him in awhile. 😀 😛

Which makes me quite happy. :couch:

Don't the EPA have to be told if one of the newfangled bulbs breaks?

Yea exactly and since my legs are not what they use to be due to arthritis, its bad enough I have to be on a ladder to change a light bulb, let alone have to worry about whether or not my house will need to be decontimated.

Holy shit. :sowrong:

I hate to be all conspiratorial but I think the whole is just a way to extract more money from average folks. Now its like taxes and being forced to by health care is not enough. Now you have to decontaminate your house periodically because of the light bulbs you will be forced to buy. :sowrong:
