That was part of the problem. Another part was having to pay almost a quarter of billion dollars every year in pensions.

None was bigger than General Motors in its glory days, when they used to say, "What's good for General Motors is good for the USA." Those days are long gone. The old GM stockholders and bondholders have been looted and the remnant turned over to the UAW and other parasites. 😱
