On a lighter subject than some recent threads kicking around here, I was curious about what we all thought about that new Transformers movie that just came out.

I know it's getting a lot of box office, but I hear that the critics absolutely hate it. I haven't seen it, and I'm debating whether I want to.

So, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Does it suck, or is it good?

It's a Michael Bay vehicle.

What exactly is the movie-going audience expecting? Schindler's List?

Dussicar's prediction:

Explosions.

The "Freedom isn't Free" crowd extolling the virtues of the American Military machine working with advanced space robots to further humanity's freedom and liberty instead of nuking all of them so that the American corporate machine can have an edge in the next WTO/NAFTA /G-8summit.

Brainless product placements...Remember: Only heroes drink Diet Coke!

Plot holes.

Explosions.

The American Flag.

Explosions.

Kevin Federline.

Megan Fox looking spacy.

Shia LaBeuf's career sinking in the toilette.

I think I'll stay in and watch Lawrence of Arabia tonight, thank you very much.

I liked it, but definitely not as much as the 1st one. This obviously was a filler, like they HAD to put something in the middle. See it for the sake of seeing it, I guess.

I did kinda like the explosions, tho. 😈

I plan on not seeing it

The 1st movie wasn't great and this is getting worse reviews than the 1st

Also, I find it "interesting" how they can have an evolutionary sentient robotic race and yet some can be jive talking illiterates

Critics are douchebags. I never listen to them.

I dunno, I enjoyed it. The camera work was a little too close-up at times and came off as blurry, which bothered my eyes. But the movie itself was great. A lot of action, much exploding, and the Constructicons.

I'm in the same boat. Critics should never be listened to, ever. More often then not they go expecting to hate something and have the mantra of "ok, prove me wrong". That's just as bad as setting your expectations too high for something. I saw two critics give Last Chance Harvey Oscar worthy nods, when in reality, its the first movie to prove to me I really can doze off on a plane.

As for the movie, I really enjoyed it. It's exactly what I want out of a summer blockbuster. Big action and it was brought on a grand scale. It's a popcorn movie and made to be over the top. Plot was thin, but not much more than the first. If you loved the first one, you'll probably at least like the second. You'll see a lot more transformers and action in this one. Optimus's vagina transformed into man parts for this one and he was a beast. :jester:

Other than that, you'll hear from all three camps on the movie: (and this is not aimed at those above as much as at all the sheep in the world) those who hate Michael Bay because it's the "cool" thing to do on the internet, even though most of them couldn't name more than three movies by him, but continue to see every one of his 200+ million dollar profit machines, those who religiously follow what critics say because they are clearly professionals on what you as an individual like, and lastly those that will just give you an honest opinion. How you decipher which is which all depends on how long you listen to them. Watch the trailer, because like in most cases, what you see is what you'll get. Thin plot, lots of action, and a continuation of the first.

I've heard it isn't so great, and is pretty much an explosion-fest. Granted, that is much of what it should be, but it should be more. But then it, along with many transformers animations, has one fatal flaw. It spends most of the movie focusing on the human characters. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE HUMANS! NO ONE IS GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE TO WATCH A BOY AND HIS GIRLFRIEND! Seriously, that is why Beast Wars is top tier, no shitty human characters that have forced significance.

Anyway, yeah. Btw... http://www.cracked.com/article_17248_transformers-2-michael-bays-rejected-script.html

It wasnt great but not bad either, but this is the kind of movie you have to see in theatres the experience wont be the same if you wait to rent it

change those actor names and you have just explained 70% of movies, as slacker or krazie dog said you hate michael bay because people on the internet say its cool, when in reality he has made some kick ass blockbuster movies in the last 8 years and id be willing to bet you have seen all or most of them.

He is one of the best director/producers in movies right now and yea he may go a little over the top on explosions but he makes a hell of an action or horror movie

I wouldn't say that it sucked. I liked it. But i'm really into transformers myself.

As far as the critics go...they never like any big summer blockbuster movies. They only like movies that are low budget. Or so it seems that way some times.

It's always hard to follow the first movie for any director or writer. Especially when the first one was so impressive.

I would say go and see it.

Effects were great. A lot (most) of the dialogue was cheesy and the humor was lame.
If I was 15 I probably would have thought it was awesome.

I have not seen it, but 3 of my friends that saw the first (I have not even watched the first) went to see it and I asked them about it.

All 3 agreed it was not as good as the first, but better than most people make it seem.
They feel it was not a total waste of time, but could have been a lot better.

And they also agree on too much focus on "The humans"

I really enjoyed it. I went it with the expectation of lots of things blowing up and a lot of action with enough plot to string the sequences together. As many people have said, it's what you're looking for in a summer blockbuster. I guess I'm like a 15 year old boy because the goofy humor did me in to. Then again, I went to be amused not to critique. Suspend reality for a bit and have a good time!

I heard it's really bad and not just from critics. Megatron comes back to life so all that happened in the first movie is kinda irrelevant since his death was the climax of it. :zombiecatcher:

It's entertaining. If you go into it and expect some grand movie experience akin to "The Dark Knight," then you will be disappointed. That being said, I liked it, and as someone already mentioned, its a summer popcorn flick. You go in, you watch it, you see stuff go boom, and you leave thinking that it was an entertainging twoish hours. I'd recommend it if you just want a fun little movie trip.

Personally, this was the wildest movie I've ever seen,

Megan Fox...HOOOOOTTTTT!!!!!!! (big shock I know)
Shia Lebeuf...entertaining

New autobots not featured as much as I thought they would be, neither were the new decepticons but over all the was what Bay said it was, a all out, all the way feature, I thought it was great.

As far as critics go, you can't really trust them, unless it came from some european film festival, they say it sucks, remember they, much like everyone else, hated the first Transformers and $319 million dollars later it was one of the best films of 2007.

I fully expect it to be number and stay in theaters for quite some time, on by the way, word is a third Transformers is in the works.

I'm sorry, but the movie seems like a bunch of pots and pans being banged together in another special effects jack off session done up by serial celluloid tarnisher Michael Bay. The novelty of this franchise was worn out after they did a first film, and making more is only going to make more shitty, overrated not even solid summer popcorn films.

They can dislike Michael Bay. For all those huge successes you rattle off, the studio has to recoup a budget that is in exponential size. The guy writes stories with no emotional content, just explosions. Don't act like he made Die Hard, or that the guy makes good action films. He doesn't. He makes drivel.

So rather than do the same thing you are doing to those Bay haters (by doing the ultimate meatball thing and bitching about critics being too elitist), maybe you should understand exactly why a movie like this is going to take in lint and pennies until it is a DVD.

Best films of 2007?!

Not a chance.

It wasnt a bad film, but it wasnt great either....I left feeling pretty indifferent about it. The main complaint i had was that it was way to long, some films you watch that are long and the time flies by but with Transformers it just felt too long.

The battles were amazing when they involved the transformers fighting one on one, but as amazing as they were they were over way too fast, then it went back to the soldiers aimlessly shooting some rounds off at machines for 5-10 mins when that happened it felt sort of needless, they could have cut alot of it out bringing the time down to a more reasonable length.

Also the amount of US army ass kissing in that film was untrue, nothing against the army but it felt like an advert for them at times, showing off all there jets, tanks, landing boats, weapons, it was basically saying "hey we're fucking awesome, we fight with transformers and have all this cool shit, Wanna Join?"

Without a doubt anyone is more than welcome to not like him as you don't, but doing it because it's a popular internet fad is ridiculous. You gave specific points as to exactly why you don't like him and you are warranted. That was my exact point, that he'd have to decide for himself, so don't go off pretending I said Bay is Hitchcock, Spielberg, Kurosawa, etc. He very much is not.

As for box office fluff, it just opened to the second largest grossing opening in history, will pay for itself plus change, and when it gets to dvd it will rake it all in again, just as the first one did, further pointing out that people, regardless of whether they think he is shit, just won't stop going to his movies. As for the meatball comment, if you think for a second what I said about critics is wrong, then you are even a bigger douche than you come off.

Just because a movie makes bank does not mean its "good"
Hell Titanic sunk(pun) many records but its was blasted my many critics and rightfully so

Hell Watchmen made a decent amount of movie but is considered a bust but THAT was a perfect film. Now if it was PG13 rated, it would have had exceptionally larger ticket sales. Transformers made money because its a sequel and if fanboys loved the 1st one theyd naturally be geeking for this. Also this movie has just about ZERO competition against it at the BO, so they are taking in all the ticket sales.

As for critics, you can also use sites that use both professional and regular comments\reviews. Rottentomatoes is notorious for having some films ranked good or bad by pro reviewers yet be completely opposite by normal movie viewers

I dislike Bay because much of his stuff is not interesting and he has more than 1 horrible remake movie under his belt to which he is attached to either as producer or director.

The ONLY remotely good movie he did IMO is the Rock but movies like Pearl Harbor and Armageddon? Horrid

Yes they made money but thats like saying Jerry Bruckhimer is a good director because he has multiple TV shows and the pirates of the carribean franchise. Its not so much him, but the story\actors dealt to him
