The Wrestling Thread!!

I can't believe that people still watch this stuff, and does it really belong in a sports thread? I mean come on... it's more like circus entertainment than sport.

Point me to the circus entertainment sub-forum, and I'll take my discussion there.

---

In an unrelated story, WWE has the Hulk Hogan DVD discounted by nearly half.

I saw where Ultimate Warrior is being considered for the HOF next year. I'm not a big fan of his, but I'm glad WWE is putting the personal issues aside and giving him what he deserves. No questioning his value to them during the 80's. I hope Macho Man makes it in soon after.

Oh ye Gods... It'd be worth it just for the speech.

CAN YOU SEE, HOAK HOGAN?! THE SPIRITS ABOVE HAVE GIVEN ME UNTO THE GREAT PRIZE HOAK HOGAN!! WHEN THE STARS ALLIGNED AND PRESENTED ME TO DEFEAT THE YELLOW AND RED AND WHITE OF THE HULKAMANIACS, I KNEW IT WAS MY DESTINY TO ANSWER THEIR CALL SO THAT WHEN I WAS CHOSEN, I WOULD CHOOSE TO ACCEPT THE SHOUT OF JOY FROM THEIR LIPS HOAK HOGAN!! CAN YOU NOT HEAR MY GODS HOAK HOGAN?!! THEY ARE CALLING TO YOU HOAK HOGAN!! AND WHEN I SLAM YOU TO THE GROUND, THEY SHALL NOT HELP YOU SHAKE YOUR HEAD AND RISE FROM THE DEAD TO STRIKE DOWN THE WARRIOR!! YOU ARE MINE HOAK HOGAN!!! *Scronk*

People don't seem to be as into it as Kofi's but I'll give it a chance to see where it ends. He's definently losing at the TLC PPV - but it's nice to see new blood in the title matches. Maybe this time next year we'll see some title matches that don't involve the same 5-or-so people.

Sheamus is a bit grren, but I like his gimmick, his entrance theme, his Irish accent and his finishing moves. :devil2:

I think John Cena's gonna have to wear sunglasses in order to wrestle him, though! He's not pale. He GLOWS! I wonder what he'd look like under a black light...

Details Behind Possible Main Events for WrestleMania 26

PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE is considering The Undertaker vs John Cena at WrestleMania 26 because the company feels it needs to do something big and unique with The Undertaker at this year's event. Obviously, The Dead Man doesn't have many WrestleMania's left in him, so WWE wants to make sure each Mania appearance is special.

Another rumored main event for the big PPV next year is Triple H vs Shawn Michaels. Although the two have wrestled against each other in the past, they have never done it at WrestleMania, so there has been discussion of booking that bout for the show.

At one point, WWE was planning on booking Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk for the show, but considering Mysterio's current injury, it might not be possible.

Report: Major Details Behind Why WWE is Pushing New Talent

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the reason why Kofi Kingston is getting such a big push right now is because WWE officials feel that the company needs an African-American baby face towards the top of the card. After several other talents that were selected for the spot didn't work out the way the company had hoped, the decision was made to give Kingston the big push.

It's also being reported that Jack Swagger's push has been slowed down, and possibly even halted, as WWE officials feel that he is not panning out the way the company had hoped.

As far as Sheamus and Drew McIntyre are concerned, they are getting their respective pushes right now because Sheamus is the work out partner of Triple H, and McIntyre is well liked by both Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

wish kofi would have gotten the title match as i think hes ready for the wwe title picture but this will tell us if sheamus is the next lesnar or the next snitsky/mike knox

Bubba The Love Sponge Attacked by a Knockout & Sent Home
by Nick Paglino
Jan 19, 2010

PWInsider.com is reporting that Bubba The Love Sponge was sent home by TNA prior to the Impact tapings yesterday, and AngryMarks.com has provided some new details behind why. Apparently, Hulk Hogan appeared on The Bubba The Love Radio Show this morning and explained that the reason Bubba was sent home yesterday was because TNA Knockout Awesome Kong punched him the face due to the comments he made about Haiti. Below is a paraphrasing of what Bubba said about the incident on his show this morning, written by someone from AngryMarks.com:

"She was wearing wrestling gear, and she came in on me and sucker punched me right on my left cheek, and I was like, what's going on... then she came out me again, hit me again in the mouth, and she goes, 'This if for Haiti! This is for Haiti!' and I'm like 'What is going on?' Finally I put my left hand out and push her away from me, and she comes at me again and I just cover up, because I cannot fight back on a woman. Not only will I be fired from TNA, which I probably am, but my radio career is gone if I take a woman out!"

The fat motherfucker got what he deserved. As if he really had a chance to take out Kong.

Surely Stone Cold Steve Austin was the best heel of all time, he was certainly the funniest.

Best heel of all time?

What a complete awesome douchebag.

I never really understood his gimmick, to be honest, and he was certainly no leader of the Alliance.

Meh, the Invasion angle was a complete and utter waste anyway. No to mention a stroking of Vince's ego from start to finish.

What about the Hot Rod?

Hard to take him seriously without a Scottish accent really. I mean, when your gimmick is that you're an insane Scotsman... Or a regular Scotsman, there isn't much of a difference, you could at least make a token effort.

Haven't you ever heard of Snidely Whiplash from the old Dudley Do Right cartoons? Well the million dollar man was pretty much the Snidely of wrestling. He pretty much represented all that could be bad about somebody with wealth and power, and abusing it. You could almost see and 80's take on the Mr. McMahon gimmick in there. I would definitely put him among the top of all time heels.

The Invasion angle was probably the single biggest screw up in the history of McMahonissim. This guy had in his hands all of the best talent in North America, and some great Latin and Asian stars as well. If he had been smart he would have left ECW out of it at the beginning, turned SmackDown into WCW SmackDown (after the won the Invasion PPV) and turned the Survivor Series into the All Star Game of pro- wrestling. Then later on they could have ECW guy from both shows recent being left on the back burner and revolt against both WCW and WWE. However to be able to do that sort of long term booking you have to be able to see past your ego and not have you head up your ass.

Well the man was from Canada right. Isn't it better he doesn't do an accent then have him do a bad one. Besides saying he is one, with out the accent, probably just made the fans boo him more, thus cheering Hogan more. Why do you really think Mania sold out. Because people loved Hogan, or because people wanted to see Roddy Piper get beat up? Baby faces sell T-shirts, but the heels sell tickets.

still say the best heel of all time is randy orton, he has gone after legends (great heel work).. hes taken out cena,dx, and even mcmahon himself. He cuts amazing promo's and puts on great matches. I personally think the heels in the buisness now are better than ever before. There werent many good heels in the attitude era and i cant think of another heel who has gotten more heat and put on the calibar of matches that orton has. Think about all orton has already done and then think he has at least 10 more good years in him. If i was making a list of the top 5 this is how it would be

1) Orton

2) the rock (he would be 1 but he went from heel to face to many times)

3) HHH (same as above)

4) Ted Dibiase

5) Jericho

Ah jeez, what are the gonna do? Give it the name of a gimmick match-type, such as the oh-so-cleverly named "Hell In A Cell" or "Tables, Ladders and Chairs" pay-per-views? Whoever came up with those should be fired.

This is from a survey the WWE just sent out asking if fans would be interested in these themed PPV's. I wouldn't mind seeing War Games.

PPV Name/Theme Ideas:

Tournament:

Single Elimintation "bracket style" tournament where Superstars would compete in multiple matches during the night to become the winner of the tournament.

Legends PPV:

Each match would feature a WWE Legend.

War Games:

Teams of 5 Collide in 2 cages. 2 participants begin the match with a new participant added every 5 minutes. This process is alternated between teams until all members from both teams are present.

Street Fight:

Main Events would feature a 'Street Fight' stipulation where there are no disqualifications & pin-falls count anywhere. Superstars often compete in street clothes.

Money in the Bank PPV:

The main event "Money in the Bank" match requires Superstars to climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase hung high above the ring. The winner can "cash in" the briefcase for a championship title shot throughout the year. Qualifying matches earlier in the event will determine participants for the "Money in the Bank" match.

Roulette:

Main Event Stipulations would be determined by the spin of a roulette wheel.

Battle Bowl PPV:

Random Tag Teams compete together - sometimes arch-rivals - with the winning teams being put in a 2-ring Battle Royal. The winner could potentially recieve a championship match.

This might seem a random, and I'm not sure if it's been asked before, but does anyone else miss the old Chris Jericho? Whether he was a face or a heel he was always more entertaining than he is now, a shite-all with a dictionary.
