The Wrestling Thread!!

Jack Swagger is the kind of wrestler who a manager like Bobby Heenan would have had a field day with. All the talent in the world, but not the best talker. If WWE ever gets tired of Matt Striker as an announcer (note: they should, immediately), put him with Swagger. He can use all those big words, and Swagger can concentrate on wrestling.

In terms of Shelton Benjamin, I'm an incredibly huge fan of his in ring-work, but I don't recall ever hearing a good promo from him. He wasn't bad; but you just tuned out whenever he spoke. Another guy who would have benefited from a manager. Plus, he's African-American, which if you haven't figured out yet, isn't exactly Vinnie Mac's preferred ethnicity.

It's funny you say that, there really don't seem to be any Jimmy Harts, Bobby Heenans or Paul Bearers, anymore. The only one that comes to mind is Natalya Neidhart, and she RARELY talks. In fact, the Hart Dynasty RARELY talks.

Only a handful of people actually get mic time. And I don't think there will ever be another legendary manager in the WWE.

I agree, for the most part. I think the days of the manager are done, which is quite sad.

However, if you had to pick someone off the current roster who you think would someday make a great manager, who would you pick? Like a Ted Dibiase type.

I'd go with CM Punk. When he retires (doubt it'll be soon, but still), I could see him continuing his career as a manager. He's a great promo, and he could use the S.E.S. as a stable.

Yeah, getting rid of managers sounds like a cost-effective measure.

"Let's see, I pay YOU a lot of money, and all you do is talk, with minimum physical involvement. I pay HIM a lot of money to wrestle. I bet I could save money by paying him to wrestle and EXPECTING him to talk and entertain, and I can get rid of you."

to bad most of them cant do both or even one of those things.

Changing the subject a bit, what did people think of Edge and Christian's run-in on Smackdown? Truthfully, this is one of the few things that would get me to watch WWE on a regular basis again. I enjoyed it, but I'm worried this was a "one and done" thing, now that they're on separate brands. Hopefully this will lead to something bigger in the future.

They've had certain wrestlers performing on both shows. I could see them teaming again despite them being on different shows. They could possibly challenge for the tag titles again. I remember that both of them said they would like to work together again but I think they wanted it to be a little later down-the-road. How sweet would it be to see the Hardys (when Jeff returns) vs. Edge and Christian again?

This operates on the assumption that Matt Hardy will still be employed by the time Jeff comes back. I think we have a better chance of seeing the Hardy's on TNA before WWE.

I'm a bit surprised and a little disappointed about Edge's sudden heel-turn AGAIN. He's a great heel, but I liked seeing him as a face, because he was a mean-spirited face, and not a complete baby-face.

I was also kind of amused by Big Show decking everybody in sight, as well as an apparent face-turn by him. I think his fist will have its own promo spotlights, or perhaps a show, like the Highlight Reel, or the VIP Lounge. He could call various superstars out, and just deck them in the face. Perhaps his fist could be a RAW guest host. 😛

Someone answer this question for me: Is Randy Orton a face? I can't tell, and I'm trying to figure out the Main Event scene on Raw.

Faces:

Cena
HHH
Orton (?)

Heels:

Sheamus
Batista
Edge

I'm tired of everyone but Sheamus and Edge, and now that he's a heel, I'll likely be tired of him soon enough. No wonder I rarely watch Raw. Where's Santino when you need him?

Hulk Hogan was on the Howard Stern Show last week and said that Torrie Wilson had contacted him recently inquiring about becoming a TNA Knockout. Hogan also said that he would love to have Stone Cold Steve Austin join TNA. He would love to wrestle Austin and said it's the one match that fans have always wanted.

I don't recall Torrie Wilson being a ridiculously good wrestler. How many Beautiful People do we need?

Could they actually be trying build something for next years WrestleMania? There are a few true opportunities for them to run into each other over the year. Summer Slam, Survivor Series and The Royal Rumble. Lets say they have words again back stage after Edge has his match at Summer Slam (maybe winning the IC title... humor me here) so when Christian has his guy set (reff is down) and Edge jumps him and costs him the US Title. Christian and challenges him again (Via the Titantron), and Edge Says no... but the RAW GM says they will captain opposing teams at Survivor Series. During the SS match Edge won't get in the ring when Christian is in the ring, until it comes down to just them on either side. They fight for a 5 minuets and end up falling out on to the floor for a 10 count.

At the rumble Christian is jumped from behind and tossed over the top rope by Edge. Edge turns his back (thinking Captain C is gone) and Christian (who landed on the ring Apron) reaches in and pulls him over the top rope, and they both his the floor together. On the following Raw Edge finally agrees to fight Chris, but on SmackDown Chris responds saying... "Nah, I got even I cost you a shot at the world title at Mania, I can live with that.", so Edge attacks him after SmackDown and puts him out until a few weeks before Mania. During an IC title defence Christian shows up and causes Edge to lose the title. Now the stage is 100% set for Christian vs Edge at WrestleMania.

What would add to things is if they even made it appear that Edge would face the winner of a battle royal the week before WrestleMania. Of course because Christian would coast him the IC title 2 weeks before the champ would end up facing the Battle Royal Winner. You know, I don't think that is half bad.

To bad Hogan refused to work with Austin during the the short time they were in WCW together. In fact if guys like Hogan had been open to working with him he never would have left WCW in the first place.

Yeah, it's hard to say what Orton is. I don't think he ever tried to LEAVE the heel angle, but with fans cheering him due to the conflicts he's in, it's making it difficult for him to maintain that angle. He's been awfully silent, lately. I imagine that trying to keep going the "mentally unstable" route is gonna make it real difficult for him on the mic, but I could be wrong. Ever since I remember him, he's always seemed to function best as a heel, and it'd be really difficult for him to pull off "mentally unstable face". He's certainly no Mick Foley. I'm worried he's gonna start getting watered down into somebody that just pounds the mat a lot with his fists and gives people RKOs.

Went to the roh show in the manhatten center last night. The wrestling is top notch. Got to see christopher daniels and the motor city machine guns. If anyone here is in the ny area, roh always puts on a great show. I think the wrestling is better than tna and wwe.

A great place to eat is this mexican restaurant across the street next to the leows movie theater. Best burritoes ever!!!

Is this the show that Awesome Kong and Sara Del Rey wrestled on?

Somewhere, I have a ROH DVD from a couple years ago. Easily the best pure wrestling I've ever seen. 3 Way Dance between American Dragon, Low-Ki and Christopher Daniels. It was the first match I watched, then immediately watched again, it was that good.

LOL that will never happen . Austin as stated a number of times his strong distaste * I call hatred* of Hogan and said he has never had the intrest of wrestling Hogan . Besides Austin is done wrestling he wants to focus on movies and I don't blame him Austin can't wrestle anymore due to his neck .

nah man hogan needs to let go of the spotlight and understand his time is up as a wrestler.

He could do well in TNA, if he was on camera for less than 15 minutes. When he's on for an entire segment, or multiple segments, it gets old fast. He should be like Mr. McMahon (the character as a face, not the man himself). He appears once a week, if that, makes an announcement, books a match, shows up on the TNA-tron to disagree with Flair, and that's it.
