This is the best metal song ever made hands down ....

I just think that Iron Maiden, Metallica, Wasp, Helloween, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath etc. are overrated. Sure, they've got SOME nice tunes but they're all the same! Someone needs to promote the new bands aswell =O

As for the best metal song ever made, I have to go with Shining - Låt Oss Ta Allt Från Varandra. Swedish bm at its best <3 Because let's just face it, Sweden, Norway and France DO make the best bm, hands down ;D
Just look at Shining, Lifelover, Peste Noire, Valfunde, Amesoueurs, Skitliv, Hypothermia.. I mean, you can't beat that ^^,

I have to agree with you on that. And a big shout out to the metal-heads in Sweden! I do like me some hair-metal on occasion, and I'm basically so into W.A.S.P. because they soundtrack a bondage session so very nicely. But, you're right from a certain point of view. Real metal is still alive and well, it's just moved to Scandanavia. There's some seriously good shit coming out of that section of the world these days. And you wouldn't think of France as a hot bed of great metal, but expose yourself to it, and you'll be surprised.

Outside of the occasional dive into hair metal, I was always into the more technically proficient bands. I mean, you can only listen to three barre chords for so long. Yngwie Malmsteen, Queensryche, Dragonforce...hell, even Warlock back in the day (the one REALLY good metal band with a female singer that wasn't pop-fluff ala Vixen)...will grab me by the boo-boo long before and endless Motley Crue litany of sex and alcohol.

However, I do have to stand up and represent Helloween. I seriously dig this band. In fact, I've often mentioned that Dragonforce reminds me a lot of Helloween, at least vocally. And Metallica did truly change the face of metal, at least of what was being called "thrash" back then. Of course, in my opinion, everything after the Black Album has been sheer sell-out garbage. But, from the Black Album back (and including my fave, Ride the Lightning), Metallica was the shit.

Valfunde actually came through Montreal awhile back. Excellent fucking band!

Ok, I just noticed that I have yet to throw my hat in the ring on the actual topic here....the best metal song ever, You know, there's no way I can say this ultimately, but over the last several years I can pick one, and there's one tune that has really stood out for me. I can't say it's the BEST EVER, but it's damn close for me, and it's the one that's got my attention these days more than any other metal tune.

Dragonforce - Through Fire and Flames

And, for my money, the best metal album, as a whole, ever recorded has got to be Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime. Not only the best metal album for me, but arguably one of my all time fave concept albums, up there with Marillion's Misplaced Childhood, and Pink Floyd's The Wall.

(Yeah, I know....you were expecting 2112 or Hemispheres...but Rush never actually did a full concept album, rather several side-long "epic" pieces.)

Dragonforce - Through Fire and Flames

i love you.

out of all their albums, DF's Inhuman Rampage was probably their best, in my opinion.

of course, when it comes to foreigners rocking out, gotta love Hollenthon, Battlelore and Dimmu Borgir as well.

Two words: JUDAS PRIEST
One more word: "Painkiller"

SOOOOO many others could be mentioned...but I'ma leave y'all to chew on THAT one....:cool2:

Did nothing but leave a bad taste in my mouth.. :xlime: muahahaha 😀

Sowwy, I was there, do you mean Wembley Stadium? 🙂 We were very lucky as we got pit passes, I was literally a few rows maybe 6 or so from the front.

I'll just go and slink away in the corner now :devil2:

you may well have been moshing with my mates, they ended up having my tickets, and my good friend chris (who i now hate because of this) caught the pick used by jimmy hetfield when he threw into the crowd :Grrr:

he did mention he had to climb on someone to get it, it wasnt you by any chance was it? :bubble:

Up The Irons!!!

Sorry guys and gals, but I've got to agree with Badreligion here. It really is no contest.

Iron Maiden has been the most popular metal band in the entire world (seriously, the whole fucking world) since Number of the Beast...and they did this with almost ZERO radio play and by only writing music that they loved..whether it was "marketable" or not.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Maiden

Best metal songs:

It's Maiden
It has always been Maiden
It will always be Maiden

This is my pick for favorite Maiden song...and greatest song of all time:

Personally, i cannot listen to Halford recorded. The studio albums just lack so much power and emotion his voice conveys. When you hear metal messiah, or rapid fire live, it just blows you away

as for best metal song

Oh bugger, thats why I had those bruises, just kidding, nope it wasn't me. I too would not be chuffed to hear he got Hetfield's pick, that's not fair and I jumped on a few people to try and reach for them (again kidding lol), I hope he keeps a tight hold of it 😉

Shame you couldn't go, just hope your buddies didn't go on about how good it was when you couldn't make it 🙂

I can never decide on the best metal vocalist
You got dio, you got eric adams of manowar, Dickinson of maiden, Jon Oliva of savatage and Halford.

I leave the thread for a bit and everything goes to pot !!

yea but bands like Dio and Iron Maiden and Priest paved the way for Metallica lol

agreed, although dickinson's voice has felt the toils of time now, as has jimmy hetfields...

got another one to add to that list, phil anselmo...although not in the same league as the likes of ronnie and eric, the guy has some pipes, and some range in his vocals, pantera just didnt use him to full effect imo

worst...gotta be dayyyve mustayyyyne, no range, too forced, and trying too hard to be like hetfield

Yeah, I agree. Metallica certainly had quite a large impact on the metal world and they deserve respect for that.

....and so did Slayer

....and so did Megadeth

....and so did Venom

Iron Maiden and the rest of the bands that came out of the NWOBM movement (everybody always forgets about Samson and Angelwitch) started all of that, though. It wasn't until this music hit San Fran that bands like Metallica started to pop up to try their hand at this new music coming out of Europe. Granted, Old Metallica probably did this better than the other bands that were out at the time and I'm still a huge fan of those albums (Kill Em All through And Justice) However, once the movement died in the US (with the rise of grunge and american alternative) many of the American bands either died off or changed their style to try and fit in with the new pop-culture trends. Metallica did the later. When metal and thrash was big, Metallica was dark and heavy. When grunge and alt became big, Metallica was light and Bob Seger-y....and THEN when hardcore and metalcore bands started popping up a few years back, Metallica released St. Anger...another rather feeble attempt to ride the coattails of a newer musical movement.
All the while, Iron Maiden made their music...the way they wanted to make it.

Even Megadeth (a holdover from the 80's thrash scene) stayed true to their fans and their music.

The guys in Metallica saw therapists, forgot how to play their instruments and whined about people downloading their music.

Both Iron Maiden and Megadeth are touring this year btw...still playing THEIR brand of music.

Metallica FTW 🙂 IRon Maiden is a very good band as well, but if i had the choice between the tw i'd choose the 1st.

Besides both groups have very good lyrics ( Master of puppets even if it sounds like master master !! and shouting describes Hetfield's addiction to alcohol )

Come crawling faster, obey your master , you life burns faster ..... etc lyrics are quoted above. The best Metallica song ever is damn tough to choose !!!!

varies for me between :
Disposeables Heroes
Call of Ctulu
Creeping death
pff too many to name

here you have the first named

DISPOSEABLE HEROES WITH CLIFF BURTON 🙂

Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name ... Live At Abby Road 2007

I hadn't ever really listened to iron maiden until now.. pretty bad ass.. thanks for sharing...

im surprised pantera hasnt been mentioned yet lol. but anyway whoever says metallica sucks is only half right. After Cliff died the only decent album that was released was And Justice for All and most of the songs were already written with cliff burton(i beleive but i could be wrong). I mean the Black album was ok but you can definatly tell that it was the turning point. But all in all Metallica can't be better nor can Iron Maiden because they both play different kinds of metal. Its like trying to compare Nirvana and Soundgarden. Both in the same genre but different styles of playing.

I also saw someone mentioning new bands. These guys arent "new" but lesser known in the metal(could be wrong about that too but i dont hear much about them so...).

I searched for russian music because I am learning the language and wanted to familiarize myself with there culture.I found this band that is like alot of the new radio metal bands here in the U.S.I am not trying to place this with any of the classic bands,I just thought some of you might find it interesting.I never thought of Russia as having a metal scene.Despite not being able to understand the lyrics the more I listen the more I like it.

Are you schitting on my FACE. Do you undestand how POPULAR the black abum is? I still can't find it in any stores !

Master of Puppets wasn't just about Alcoholism.. If you listen he talks about cutting up his breakfast, So Drugs are obviously a huge factor in the meaning of the song.

Alchemy..I UNFORTUNETLY Agree.. I think that once they got sober (and cut their hair) Everything went down the shits. I watched Some Kind Of Monster, And it was just uncomfortable. But everything up to Load was fucking MINT. They had the lyrics, the look, the attitude, a great guitarist, an amazing vocalist, and a fucking INSANE DRUMMER.

I do enjoy Megadeth, It is nothing like Metallica, or for that..Even Iron Maiden.
