I think it's a neat illustration of how context changes perspective. We're accustomed to cell phones, so that's what we see. Period alternatives suggested by other viewers include having just left the dentist after having a tooth pulled (which would explain the hand to the head and moving the jaw), and shielding one's face because one doesn't want to be on camera while holding a 1920's handbag/purse (which is quite small) -- perhaps saying something to the camera man. Maybe somewhat unusual answers, but vastly more likely than a time traveler using an early 21st century cell phone (rather than something more advanced, or less obvious) in an early 20th century movie.

I think Cap hit the nail on the head here. A much more likely explanation then "time traveler".

I think its actually a "Western Electric 34A Audiophone." Hearing Aid. It was made in 1925... You can see one if you search it.... It looks just like a cell phone in shape Check it out...
