Oh god. I'm sitting here in tears and trembling right now, afraid to hear the worst. About a mile down the road from me (I live on a busy highway), a school bus carrying a load of elementary students collided with a full sized semi-truck. I don't know the condition of anyone involved yet, but I heard on the scanner they are sending in 3 helicopters for medical transport. They only do that in case of life or death injury. And to need three....I've never heard them send more than one at a time before. Sirens have been flying past here like nuts, every minute or two, and my brother, who is a first responder and lives in this area, just went out there to offer his assistance.

I'm praying as hard as I can that no one, especially none of the children, were seriously injured. It's against the odds, I know, but I can not bear the thought of any of them being lost in this tragedy.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this quick to ask those forum members who'd be willing, to send a prayer or two this way for the children on that bus, and their families whose lives are probably about to enter hell on earth.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep you updated as I hear more.

Good grief !!!!! That sounds horrific. As a mother I really feel for those parents now. I hope the outcome isn't too bad.

I am so sorry to hear this, Mimi. How awful! My thoughts and prayers go out to those poor children, the bus driver, their familes, and the truck driver. I pray that everyone made it out alive, and that no one was too seriously hurt.

Your right about the helicopters Mimi! But that doesn't mean they will pass on!! I had a friend who was airlifted to a hospital some years ago, and she is doing fine now!!!

There is always hope!!! I certainly hope the drivers are okay too!

Sending good thoughts your way Mimi. Hope those kids are OK.

I will be praying for those involved and hope that everything comes out as well as it can. Stay strong Mimi and keep us informed.

OMG my oldest rides a bus and they both will be next year. I think that is every parent's nightmare. Of course I will be praying for those kids and the families. My heart hurts right now thinking of it.

God, the Daddy in me is crying. I feel like one of the parents, the panic they must be in, not knowing the condition of their kid(s). When kids suffer I feel like my chest will explode and the tears run freely. I want to do something hands on this minute to help, I wanna run outside and find them, keep them warm, wipe their tears until Mama and Daddy arrive to take them home. This is why I wouldn't be any good in Iraq. I gotta go tell my Wife.

That's so sad and tragic. I hope there are no fatalities. My heart goes out to everyone involved in the accident.:droptear:

I will pray for all those involved Mimi. Hopefully no one was seriously hurt.

I just got a basic update on the accident. The bus was either slowing down to let kids off, or to make a turn (which is not yet known), and the semi driver for reasons unknown yet did not stop and it rear-ended the bus. There were 14 children on the bus at the time. 3 of them have been transported by helicopter to our leading trauma unit 40 miles from here, and 5 more were transported by ambulance. Their conditions are not yet known. As this point there are no fatalities (God bless), so all we can do is keep praying that those who were transported make it through alright.

That's everything I know right now. Hopefully they'll give a full update on the 10PM news, and I'll update this thread then. Thank you everyone who has replied.

Mimi

P.S. Rexx, you just described me to a "t" and hence why I posted this. Since I can't be there to take them all into my big soft arms and nuzzle em in my chest and whisper in their ear that everything will be okay while drying their tears...well, praying and telling those of you here who I knew would pray and send your thoughts as well was the best thing I could think to do. I think the parent in us makes us automatically want to protect and comfort every child in the world in a time of need.

Mimi, everytime you take the time to care about another being and prayerfully place them in our Creators hands, you literally do reach out and touch their lives. Thanks for sharing and they are already in our prayers in Pokey's house.

Another update. Police have confirmed the bus had stopped to let students off, and the semi hit them full speed in the rear. Made no attempt to slow down or stop, so you can imagine what the scene must have been like getting hit by a semi doing 60mph. *cringe*

There were actually 5 helicopters sent, and all 5 were needed to transport critical condition kids. I don't know how many of them yet are in critical condition. I only know it's at least several.

Those who are willing, keep the prayers and thoughts coming. Looks like it's going to be a long hard battle for a few of their lives. May God be with them and their families.

Yeah, what he said.

Seriously, Mi, not only do you touch their lives, you touch ours as well. Thank You so much for your update. There was nothing in our local news at 10 and nothing as of this minute on the 'net news.

Please post further information as you get it. I'll keep the kids and their families in my prayers.

I'm gonna pray for the semi-driver too. Hurt or not, he's gotta live with this.

Just logged in after getting home from work and now I am going to kiss my son one more time and thanking God he is here safe with me..... :cry1:

Keep us posted Mims....Tracy and I will be praying for all involved...

Wis. School Bus Accident Injures Eight

© 2006 The Associated Press

Wis. — A tractor-trailer rear-ended a stopped school bus along a rural highway Tuesday, injuring six students and both drivers, authorities said.

One student was ejected by the impact and four others were trapped in the wreckage, said Rome Fire Chief John Frantz.

All eight injured were hospitalized, some in critical condition, officials said.

Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. Jeff Liethen said the bus was carrying 11 students home from the school, which houses kindergarten through 12th grade.

Witnesses told investigators the bus had its red lights flashing and a stop sign up when the wreck happened on a highway west of the city, Liethen said. The speed limit there is 55 mph.

The bus was pushed across the road into a ditch.

"To the best of my knowledge, there was no braking or skid marks at the scene," Liethen said.

The truck from Wayne Transportation in Wisconsin Rapids was hauling paper products to Tampa, Fla., said Craig Jarosinski, one of the company owners.

He said the 45-year-old driver has been with the company for five years and had never had an accident.

wow. As a dad myself, I can only imagine what the families must be thinking right now. Jpie and I will keep them in our prayers that everything turns out all right.

Back a couple of lifetimes ago, I was a substitute school bus driver. The one thing they stressed during training was how "precious" our cargo is.
While I know there is no practical way to install seatbelts in school busses, it would do my heart good to see somebody come up with SOMETHING that would help to keep children from the harm of collisions such as these.
I know I felt a guilt trip each time I fastened my safety belt while looking up into the overhead mirror at all those small beautiful faces.
It also amazed me (I was almost rear-ended at a traffic light) how many people just cannot see that huge yellow bus.
My heartfelt wishes go out to those children and the parents and siblings whose lives are going to be changed by such a tragedy. This also extends to the bus driver and his family and the driver of the truck that caused the accident.
May each have the best of possible outcomes.

Thanks for posting that update, Ray. That's the latest I've heard as of this point. They still do not know the current condition of the 8 who were injured.

Mimi

Let's pray for their lives, and let's hope that they didn't sustain any kind of serious injuries that may cause them troubles in the lives.
