What did you play on at the park/playground?

So I'm revamping my huge backyard playground for my preschool, and I'm planning to actually build a see-saw from scratch (!). It got me thinking how much I *loved* the see-saws when I was a kid, even though way too many little Brooklyn kids fell off onto concrete and now they can't do math...:zombie:

What was your favorite thing to play on at the park? Swings, monkeybars, slide...?

:seesaw:

It's funny that you ask this.

I took Spawn to the playground the other day and it was empty accept for us. He ran right to the slides, while I sat and swung the entire time.

I loved the swings when I was little and still do to this day. :bubbleheart:

If by play you mean getting into massive fights, then yes, I played on the playground. 😀
Swings are still pleasant.

I paid a psycho amount of $$ for that playset you saw in my backyard because the swings have NO weight limit, grownups love it out there as much as the kids :bounce:

I want a trampoline but Bill's seen too much Funniest Home Videos and forbidden me :sigh:

I love the swings, just like my son does. We're both a little leary of the play structure it's self. But I think that's cause I don't like being up off the ground.

At our playgrounds we have this game with four huge boxes drawn on the ground, and with a dodgeball, we played this game called 4-square

Perhaps I can offer a couple suggestion here that might work for you. First one is money, the second is labor-intensive, but both work well and might sway Mr. Bill in favor. 😀

We have a trampoline that we used for wrestling training, to help the guys get comfortable learning and perfecting aerial maneuvers before taking it to the ring. In order to keep them safe, we spent the extra money and got the screened enclosure. It kept several men, one at 250+ lbs, from sailing off the trampoline on more than one occasion, so I can testify that they work extremely well in keeping little ones on the tramp.

Secondly (and this is something we actually plan to do when Jordan is older for his safety, although ours is a 15' round, so we've got quite a task in front of us when we finally decide to follow through): If the concern is not only the possibility of jumping off the trampoline but how high it is off the ground, it's possible to put the mat and frame directly on the ground by digging a hole underneath it. Using one of the smaller tramps makes it less of a PITA, and if you don't mind the grunt-work, it also works well, plus doesn't make the yard look so "crowded".

And I have to say...I learned, and Glam can also testify, that "drunk-jumping" can be incredibly fun when you got a trampoline in your backyard. Once again, the screened enclosure is a Godsend. 😉 LOL

The swings, and they still are. Whenever I walk, I always stop and hop on for a few minutes.

I used to love see-saws/teeter totters (whatever you prefer to call them), until the time I fell off one and landed on my head. To add insult to injury, my friend got off his side to check on me and as I sat up, my side promptly came down and slammed onto my head!

Ever since, I prefer the swings.

The see-saws always made me nervous. I was always worried I was gonna fall off them.

As far as drunk-jumping on a trampoline.. Just jumping on one makes me feel loaded. It's so hard for me to keep a steady rhythm. Especially with 5 or 6 other friends on there with me. Someone always ends up falling off. Which is funny, if they don't get hurt! 😀

Srsly. I feel terrible but that's so funny. :redheart:

It's also great exercise!

I loved the swings, the monkey bars, jungle jims, basically anything that could get me up in the air or that I could jump off of or hang from and probably end up scraping my knees and elbows in the sand.

Your entire post FTW :cheer:

What's sad is I can tell him everything you just said and he'll say "they're ugly. NO." He thinks they're an eyesore, same for above ground pools; we have this fight every summer :slapfight:

Personal faves include Slide, Swing, Monkey bars and trampoline.

Also walking around the field by myself inventing kick-ass worlds and adventures and stuff. 😀

Speaking of games we played:

Watch this whole thing, it's a scream :devil2:

Thinking back, when I was a kid, most of the time I lived in a condo complex in Jersey. There wasn't a playground there, but my friends and I always had fun in the woods behind the complex. There was a big dirt hill/cliff that we'd always hang around at in our "club". We'd have stick swords, and basically be where our parents didn't want us to be because of ticks and whatnot. If not there, we liked playing on a grass hill on the side of the complex that lead up to a chain-link fence to the interstate. We'd roll down the hill or ride our bikes down the hill. Most of my clothes had permanent grass stains. We did that until a car drove off the highway, plowed through the fence, and rolled down the hill crashing into one of the condos. After that, we weren't allowed to go there.

I had a play area at my house when I was little, and my dad built me the most kick ass club house ever, with working lights and electric outlets and a drawing desk with a bench. I love forts and clubhouses!

My favorite thing was always a well constructed/maintained sandbox. I saw one at a park one time that was roughly 10 ft by 10 ftwith sand perfect for building castles in. I always wanted to building something like that with poles i could stretch a tarp over to keep cats ut of it. 😀

I think my favorite was the swing and the tire swing, although one time my sister spun me around too much and I puked on her. So maybe a tire swing ain't a good idea.

I was scared of the see-saw for a long time and I liked slides if they were big.

Monkey bars were cool too. I used to be able to do them. Now I have noodle arms so I'm lucky if I can halfway across lol.

I was always a fan of the monkey bars or the jungle gym. I loved climbing things as a kid and to an extent I still do love to climb trees and go mountain climbing.

For a while I really liked the swings but after I broke my arm playing a game on the swings I really didn't care for them as much.
