Being at the presentation of both my kids. My kids are adopted from Colombia is the all time coolest which will never be met. However recently, there is something that comes in a close second.
I was recently at a birthday party my son was invited to. It was held at a batting cage around the corner from where I live. During the party all the kids were taking swings in the slow pitch cage under our my, and another fathers supervision. Just before we were to go back for cake, we pass by the fast pitch cage. One of the fathers commented to me how fast the ball was coming in. I asked the attendant how fast the ball was pitched and he told me 85 MPH. Mind you, this is 85 MPH from 40 feet away. That is equivlant to over 100 MPH from major league distance (60'6"). One of the kids asked me if I ever played baseball, and I told him "yes, when I was younger". Then he asked me if he thought I could still hit the ball in the fast pitch cage. I told him I don't know about now but when I played I could. Well, basically, he put me up to taking a few cuts, so, reluctantly, I stepped in, with me son and about eight kids watching. I did what I normally do when I go into the cage. I let the first pitch go by without swinging outside the box to get a feel for the speed, which was like facing Nolan Ryan, in his prime, on a good day, then on the second pitch I swing to TRY and get the timing of the pitch. then I stepped in. After swinging and missing at only two out of the next 15 pitches, I was gawked at by the kids and my son runs up to me, hugs me, and yells, "DAD, you are AWESOME!!". At that point a feather could have knocked me down
It doesn't get much better than that
How about you guys and gals?
