Being at the presentation of both my kids. My kids are adopted from Colombia is the all time coolest which will never be met. However recently, there is something that comes in a close second.

I was recently at a birthday party my son was invited to. It was held at a batting cage around the corner from where I live. During the party all the kids were taking swings in the slow pitch cage under our my, and another fathers supervision. Just before we were to go back for cake, we pass by the fast pitch cage. One of the fathers commented to me how fast the ball was coming in. I asked the attendant how fast the ball was pitched and he told me 85 MPH. Mind you, this is 85 MPH from 40 feet away. That is equivlant to over 100 MPH from major league distance (60'6"). One of the kids asked me if I ever played baseball, and I told him "yes, when I was younger". Then he asked me if he thought I could still hit the ball in the fast pitch cage. I told him I don't know about now but when I played I could. Well, basically, he put me up to taking a few cuts, so, reluctantly, I stepped in, with me son and about eight kids watching. I did what I normally do when I go into the cage. I let the first pitch go by without swinging outside the box to get a feel for the speed, which was like facing Nolan Ryan, in his prime, on a good day, then on the second pitch I swing to TRY and get the timing of the pitch. then I stepped in. After swinging and missing at only two out of the next 15 pitches, I was gawked at by the kids and my son runs up to me, hugs me, and yells, "DAD, you are AWESOME!!". At that point a feather could have knocked me down

It doesn't get much better than that

How about you guys and gals?

I ate 3 bbq beef sandwiches, all by myself! It was truly a day that changed my life forever, for obvious reasons.

I've been a writer all my life. Seeing my first nationally published article blew my mind!

ohh..what was it about Steph???

I have a few cool things to happen to me.. while in Tampa, well st. petes/clearwater, i was out swimming in the Gulf of Mexico and had a pack of Dolphins come by and i was swimming with them..that was truly an amazing experience. Ive had the chance to meet Ken Griffey Junior when he played for seattle at the old Cleveland Stadium..he shook my hand and talked to me a bit b4 signing the foul ball that i caught of his earlier that day in the 5th inning. Also got to meet probably the only yankee that i liked under the stienbrenner era..Don Mattingly..he didnt have much time to talk because they were leaving to head out west that nite..but he did shake my hand i told him how much i admired him. Its funny..not too many ppl like him, yet i do! Third, while in Chicago with my family..looking like tourists..i was in awe while looking at wrigley field..a man walks up to us..sees me with a cubs hat on at the time..cause i really never liked the whitesox(just frank thomas) and im actually a Cards fan for the NL league..but my dad is like..on man..Ernie Banks..all dressed up in a suit says come with me..so we walk and he tells security we are with him..takes us in to the very front rows of wrigley on the first base side..smiles and says..enjoy..looking out on the field..we see it all..that day they had tryouts going on..i was simply in shock at the beauty of an american ballpark icon. my dad turns to ask him for an autograph..and hes gone. last one outta my baseball memories..i went to see the indians face Mark McGwire his last year with Oakland..while watching him at bat, he drills a ball that hits the ScoreBoard at the Jake..longest homerun hit at the field ever..then a few games later.. Manny breaks it..next at bat..Jim Thome breaks it..and about a year later..same seats..Mcgwires at bat with the Cards..DOTS the "i" in Budwieser on the scoreboard..i was going crazy..two years..two different team..two long blasts..by one guy..awesome! Last but not least..My Senior year..my Track Coach, He stands 6'3, 220 lbs. He stands infront of the whole spring sports assembly. calls up the throwers..calls everyones name off but mine..looks down and smiles..pulls out a paper..with tears in his eyes and a huge smile, he comends me on my leadership, my athletic ability, my good will as a person, bringing me into tears and named me the Track MVP for the year..i walk up and shake his hand and he gives me a big hug..he was the best coach, teacher and person, that ive ever met..but dont tell him that..hes just doing what hes supposed to in life as he said..i was speechless..everyone was cheering and stood up..i fell to pieces..i returned the favor the following year..when he could not attend a meet..i took over as Coach, along with my other coach, who was also an all american in track for Bowling Green, just like himself. Hes truly an amazing person, very positive, just everything that a teacher, coach, role model should be.

it changed for the guy sitting next to you too...LOL
Just kidding with you man...😀 🙂

Ernie Banks in a Hell of a guy, I will admit to that...

Coolest things...

Me finding God

Birth of my kids

Getting Meems and her daughter in my life

I was trashing supermodels with shitty attitudes Jeff~just a fluff piece really but it ran in W magazine~not too shabby for a debut.
W is like Vogue, BTW~high fashion, that kind of stuff.

XOXO

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

The only person I would feel sorrier for the person buried in the sand at the beach and he puts his beach chair over him

Sorry, Johnny, we're just busting you chops.

Things that are cool because they're life-changing

Losing my virginity. (C'mon, who's life wasn't changed at that moment?)

My spiritual discovery of myself. (Kinda like Laz finding God, but more undefined in my case.)

Finding I had a talent as a fund-raising organiser. There's nothing quite so satisfying.

Things that don't rock the world, but they're cool anyway

Two of the three meetings I've had with ladies from the TMF. The third (the first one I met) sadly turned out to be a virtual schizophrenic, but the other two were wonderful. Both found having their toes sucked to be unbearably ticklish, so naturally I did it for hours to both of them. Bless their hearts, they didn't hate me afterwards. :twohugs: :cupid: <<<<---- :feets: :couch:

When the very first time I tickled my wife, and she usually gets upset when outsiders tickled her, she actually enjoyed it. To say it shocked me was an understatement😛

Johnny- Thanks for being a good sport. Tommy and I were just kidding you. thanks for posting

Steph- That is very, very cool that an article you wrote about got national recognition. Probably an long lived aspiration that was met. I saw a little bit in the thread but I'd like to know more details.

Jeff- I kind of know the feeling about being recognized on a sports team having played sports myself. The coolest thing is that you earned the respect of a man you admire greatly and your peers as well. That is what any athlete aspires to. Congratulations!!

Laz and Sinner- I am answering you simotaneously because you stated the same reasons. I share your sentiments, man!!!!! Becoming a dad was the coolest thing that ever happened to me and nothing will EVER change that... EVER!!

Big Jim- Yes, losing your virginity is pretty damn cool, I have to say, but you also mentioned about discovering your talent as a fund raiser, and the satisfaction that went along with it. Two thumbs up, man!! Doing something for a good cause is definitely to be talked about. I was once involved in a project sponsered by my temple. Every year, there is a day called Mitsvah Day. This is a day where members volunteer thier time for a day. There are many different activities. The one I was involved with was Americares. We ended up by going to an house that was owned by an elderly woman who lived alone. The place was in dire need of maintenance. As well as painting the house, some carpenters and I also reframed the garage, replaced the front and back door and screen door, replaced a window, and installed the air conditioners for the upcoming summer. When we were finished, the house looked like a different structure, but more important, the look in her eyes was everlasting gratitude which I can't describe. She could have never afforded to pay a contractor and painter in the open market

NT-I guess that was a sign of good things to come, and let me also extend my congratulations to you about becoming a dad yourself.

Keep em coming!! 😎

another one~getting my bachelor's degree!

giant~it was the start of my career in advertising! I also co-authored two books!
XOXO

It's kind of a recurring thing, but the coolest thing I can think of is when a child sees you, screams your name out in joy and sprints to you so they can give you a big hug and a kiss. Equally cool is teaching a child something and seeing that something in the click.

I'm fortunate enough that these happen to me often...though not often enough to make me think they aren't the coolest thing ever!

I am fortunate that something like this happens to me almost everyday. when I come home from work, my kids do that to me. Is it cool, yes, extremely. It's not unique, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I also coach baseball, and there was a kid on my team this year that would make Timmy Lupus (Bad News Bears) proud. When he got a hit, I was like "Yeah!!"

When I was posting, I was trying to think of something that doesn't happen everyday.

Way to go...

My personal charity thing, is doing events for kids charities. I organised a "gunge tank" thingy, and got some girls I knew at work involved and some friends of my g/f. We set up at stall at a local carnival and then all got sponsored, as well as having collecting boxes there on the day. We then all got covered from head to toe in the slimet, green or yellow stuff accompanied by hoots of derision from the spectators. Then all the ones who were gunged, sprinted afer someone who was clean and hugged them. :blaugh:

It was putting the fun into fundraising. Everyone had a great day. Two and ahalf months later, we've only got about half the money collected, but it's coming slowly. I think it might be as much as £800 ($1,500) by the time we're done.

Make sure it was the person who was laughing the hardest 🙂 😀

Seriously, good luck with it. I like what I hear

Well , I thought it was really cool when where I work as a customer service representative for just over a year, the boss comes up ,stands beside me and says " Laurie, this is Amy,would you mind showing her the ropes of what all we do here?" I was so excited for myself to be picked out of 40 employees to be the one to train someone new 🙂.

Also, the other thin that makes me cry at times is that my older sister was a major "john denver" fan and I went to a concert with her,my sister didn;t have backstage passes but we found the way where to go..having to be met with security guards,my sister being in front of the metal divider wanting to meet john denver..I will *never* forget when the guard looked directly at me,and said "you there, come here". What happened next was unexpected, the guard lifted me over the railing to other side, took me by the hand and led me to where john denver was listening to audio tape of the concert!.OMG my sister didn;t talk to me for weeks!LOL..But you know,as big a fan as my sister was of john denver,I cried when he died in that plane crash..

I thought it was really cool that I was rewarded for my work during the SARS crisis, by being given box seats to a Leafs game this year. It was a sweet experience, and I got to meet some players 😀

It would have to be finally graduating in June with 2 BA degrees. The only thing that can top that is when I get my M.ED in the near future.

Ok, this one time...I saw God on the cross-town bus. He sat down next to me, told me the meaning of existence and gave me a pretzel.

...Can't remember what He said...

...but that was a really good pretzel...

🙄
