In a word Andorians. If J.J. Abrams doesn’t want to do a theatrical adaptation of the original episode Space Seed, then I think it is high time the Andorians were brought into the films in a major way. If there is one thing, I think, we Trek fans can agree on, it’s that ST: Enterprise made the Andorians look pretty damn cool. So if JJ Abrams wants to stay true to what happened before Kirk’s birth (witch is when everything changed and NOT before) then everything that happened on the Enterprise series should still apply. There for there is plenty reasons for the Andorians to look at the loss of Vulcan as an opportunity to wipe-out what’s left of their age old foes.
My idea would be that the Andorians bolt from the UFP and join forces with the Klingon’s and the Romulans, forming a sort of Intergalactic Axis Powers. This trinity is dedicated to 2 things, 1 is the final elimination of the Vulcan people, and the other is to conquer and divide the Alpha and Bata quadrants amongst each other (this of course would require the destruction of the United Federation of Planets). I sort of see Earth, Vulcan and Andoria as 3 of the more power groups in the Federation, and the main thing that kept the Klingons and Romulans in check during the original time line. With the Andorians switching sides after the destruction of Vulcan this would be a huge shift in power, because Vulcan is no more, and the remaining species aren’t powerful enough to fight the Axis on there own. This leaves earth as the most powerful ally in the UFP but they are impossibly out gunned following the conflict with Nero and his 24th century garbage scow.
The only voice speaking against the war on the Andorian side is the greatly respected Ambassador Thy’Lek Shran. However his motives are based on his friendship with Admiral Jonathan Archer. Archer however dies a few days after the official crimsoning of the USS Enterprise (I actually read that on the Memory Alpha web site) leaving Shran with no real reason to care what happens to the Federation anymore. This basicly leaves Kirk and company as the only real power for to defend the Alpha and Bata quadrants, and doesn’t leave things looking good for the heroes as the Axis starts cutting through the UFP like a hot knife does butter.
Hey, everybody knows that the 2nd act isn’t supposed to end happy!
I like this idea because it allows for a brief cameo by Scott Bakula as Admiral Jonathan Archer (with prosthetic make-up), and brings in Jeffrey Combs to play Shran. It also opens the film for some WWII style drama, witch I like, and leaves the heroes to fight against impossible odds.
What do you guys think?
