What would you want to do on a first date?

I've always kept it simple. Dinner and movie, some sports game, bowling, something like that. The main reason being that I'm attempting to get to know the person a little better, so I don't want to be completely entrenched in whatever it is I'm doing... so much so that I can't actually figure out if I want to date this girl or not. If not, then we can do that stuff as friends just as well, but I'd prefer not to realize this person is friendzone material after several dates. 😛

The first day I met Maggie, we went shopping, got poutine, played, met Lamashtu for dinner, went to a munch, hosted RobAce Radio and passed out next to each other.

The most I've ever done on a traditional 'first date' was dinner, mini golf, a movie and walking back to her place. 🙂

That is awesome! Good to hear it was a fun time! 🙂

Nooo, I do that kind of thing with friends usually! Seems a little dull for a date.

Some other ideas--

  • Stargazing outside of the city (if you live in the city) -- impress your date with your knowledge of the galaxies, or scare them off with your nerdiness!
  • Read E.E. Cummings and/or Calvin and Hobbes to each other...or other books...
  • Ice cream cones at Dairy Queen, then sit outside and wave to passing cars.
  • Mutual musical fun on the xylophone, trumpet, and whatever else you have on-hand.
  • Mural painting.
  • To the botanical gardens.
  • Urban exploration/camera hunting/trespassing.
  • Go to your local planetarium!
  • Late night picnic.
  • Aimless driving and listening to mix-tapes.
  • Drive-in movies and popcorn.
  • Rollerskating/roller-blading/roller-derby/falling often.
  • Games at an arcade.
  • Building snow creatures (winter only).
  • Chalk drawing on your local sidewalk.
  • Something else you know The Two of You would like.

Urbex ftw!

Like others have said, it depends on how well you've known the person beforehand, where you live, etc..

If this is the first time you have gone out on a date, keep it simple. If you city has some sort of mini- fun park where there is golf, skating, or go karting, take him/her to that. It's fun for both of you and can break the ice..

My approach is to keep it short and sweet, generally 1 hour but no more than 2 hours max. That way if the date is a train wreck its over soon, or if its going great you end on a high note. My standard first date is meeting at a bar or coffee shop, with some billiards or other lightly competitive game mixed in. Games like darts, mini golf or bocce are great because it gives plenty of opportunity to banter while the game can pick up the slack if conversation dies down. Plus the way a person behaves during a game gives a lot of insight into their personality- enthusiasm, seriousness, sense of humor, etc. Movies on a first date are kinda awkward if you just met since thats basically 2 hours of sitting in the dark with no interaction. Thats more of a good 3rd date idea.

yeah an activity where u can talk is always a must!!! movies are a 3 or 4 months in thing. if you have said all u can say in 10 minutes we arent gonna mesh.

Depends on the person, but generally I am a traditionalist. Dinner in a movie is nice, or going to a lowkey bar type area for drinks and whatnot. Nothing too major as its mostly for "get to know you" things, and I agree with whoever said conversation is a must.

I'd say going to museum, nature trail/park and then dinner. Of course it also depends what the person likes, but I know I love roaming around a museum or nature stuff.

The best first date I ever had involved the following:

My last date was with my wife. I took her to Manhattan for the weekend. We went to BB Kings Blues Club in Times Square and also to a Ranger Game at MSG. It was a fun date.

Can't beat a first date with Snookie and Urkel!!

But realistically a first date has to involve talking...I just had a first date this weekend that lasted about 10 hours. We painted her apartment and cooked dinner together. It was great! I hope it goes somewhere

Me and roxita did the whole date thing the wrong way. 😛

We played alot at a hotel room, had jummy and dirty sex....THEN we went out for a romantic dinner! 😛

Great evening! 😀

Dinner and a movie sounds good to me. You can learn a lot about a person at the movies.

I would want to take a trip to an aquarium, zoo, or natural history museum. We would have a light meal and end the night watching horror movies, playing video games, and tickling.
