Who are your guitar heroes?

alexlifeson2.jpg

Alex Lifeson
(I'm a hardcore Rush fan - 'nuff said ;))
They are awesome, but surely there are better pictures out there. In this one, he looks like he's taking his first crap after three days of constipation.

Jazz guitarists Django Reinhardt, Grant Green, and Charlie Christian are the ones that I really get into these days.

Some less known guys who should be mentioned:

Freddy King
Rory Gallagher
Roy Buchannan
Link Wray
Earl Hooker

and we've almost worn out our copy of Rodrigo y Gabriela cd!

Drew

Excellent point, drew! You're right - there are better shots of Lerxst out there. Chose this one because he's really getting into it, but I can see how his expression could definitely be misconstrued. :jester:

Hendrix

I'm still a Kottke fan,.... but McCartney said that Hendrix was the one they wanted to listen to when they weren't "working." More on this later,.... I need to look something up....

---Brian Setzer is possibly the most proficient player,..... he might be a tad corny, but he has the best hands. Still, no one can out do Kottke. Most of you don't even know Kottke's work, do you?

Man, Setzer is good, but he's not even in the same zip code as Hendrix or Kottke

Alex Lifeson (duh)
Keith Richards (double duh)
George Harrison and must give honorable mention to Randy Rhoades and Jake E. Lee

XOXO

In no special order..

Albert Collins
Muddy Waters
Roy Buchanan
Lightnin Hopkins
Stevie Ray Vaughan

There are more, these are just a few off the top of my head.

At the risk of this being the wrong thread for this pick, I recently heard an unplugged guitar version of Neil Young's "Old Man" that gave me the chills.

i've long felt that Carlos Santana is underrated....

Adrian Smith , Dave Murray , Janick Gers , Ritchie Blackmore , Brett Gurewitz , Brian Baker , Greg Hetson

I'm surprised that our Southern Boys who are TMF members, don't remember "Rebel Rouser" & "Twangy Guitar.":sowrong:

Mark Tremonti from Creed and Alter Bridge, my two favorite rock bands.

And how could I forget...

Of course in sickening Otaku fangirl fashion, i bring you Miyavi. [insert dirty thoughts about pretty asian guitarist here]

And now for something completely different --

this, everybody, is my favorite guitarist of all time:

boon85-721753.jpg

His name is D Boon, guitarist/singer of the Minutemen, whose song 'Paranoid Chant' had obvious influence on my s/n. He died in a car accident in .. '85, I think?

They were an influential band rather than a successful one (Boon worked a second job his entire life) so what little video of them exists are pretty much home movies -- but I kinda like them better that way, it kept them honest.

This song is 'Two Beads At the End'

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ex_TpDr7EM8&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ex_TpDr7EM8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

James Hetfield, his rhythm guitar indisputably set the standards for future metal bands like Trivium, Machinehead, and alike. He not only is an absolute God on guitar, but his showmanship live is one step above the rest. Bands are only doing today what he was doing 20 years ago. Talk about being ahead of his time.

Kirk Hammett, arguably one of the finest lead guitarists to ever play in music. His cover of the theme for 'The Alfred Hitchcock Hour' on Binge and Purge Live shit will always stick in my mind.

In saying that, if we put James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton together and just put that middle part of 'Orion' on, it becomes clear that these gentleman were and are truly gifted.
