WWE's Eddie Guerrero found dead

Former WWE champion Eddie Guerrero passed away due to heart failure brought on by past drug and alcohol abuse, according to a statement made by his wife Vicki to WWE's website this afternoon.

Guerrero told the website, "It was from his past – the drinking and the drug abuse. They found signs of heart disease. She (the examiner) said that the blood vessels were very worn and narrow, and that just showed all the abuse from the scheduling of work and his past. And Eddie just worked out like crazy all the time. It made his heart grow bigger and work harder and the vessels were getting smaller, and that’s what caused the heart failure. He went into a deep sleep.

As soon as they saw his heart, they saw the lining of his heart already had the heart disease. There was no trauma, and Eddie hadn’t hurt himself in any way. It answered a lot of questions. I knew Eddie wasn’t feeling very good for the last week. He was home and kept saying he wasn’t feeling good and we thought it was just “road tired.” So we thought he just had to rest. It answered a lot of my questions, too, because he was just so exhausted. She said it was normal because the heart was working so hard."

Eddie Guerrero will be laid to rest this Thursday in a private service in Phoenix, Arizona. The Guerrero family has asked that fans please respect their privacy during this trying time and not attempt to attend the services.

I watched last night's show, and lemme tell ya, the spirit of Eddie Guerrero was all over the place. It was like he was there watching it with us. I couldn't believe the strength of those who worked despite the pain they were feeling. They are to be commended for their strength, only supplied by the spirit of Eddie. We will see ya again, my friend. Rest well

Damn it, Lazarus! You beat me to the punch! 😡 :ranty:

It was...

It wasn't a Johny Cash song, but it was Johny Cash singing it (aka he had done a cover of it shortly before he died). I've heard the original and the man in blacks vertion is better. I can't remember the title or who did it first, but it was a fitting tune.

The name of the song is "Hurt". Johnny did a cover of it a while after it came out. I actually thought it was very appropriate and spoke well to Eddie's struggles.

As I've already posted, I'm not a wrestling fan, but now that it seems the cause of Eddie's tragic death was indeed heart failure brought on by his abuse of drugs and alcohol, I hope his passing will inspire other young people to stop drinking and/or doing drugs, or even to simply lead healthier lifestyles. Then maybe his death will not be in vain. 🙁

The Johnny Cash number was called "Hurt", and yes it was Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) that wrote it.

As expected, Kerwin White is gone, and Chavo is now taking up his family name again. And I did see some of RAW. Chris Benoit's testimony was so heartbreaking, I actually had tears in my eyes, and I find it hard to cry myself. Those moments when he won the WWE Title, as well as celebrate with Benoit at Wrestlemania XX, it chokes me up. The WWE did a good job with the tribute show, and expect more on Smackdown too.

Eddie is a legend now, but he still didn't deserve to be taken away from everyone, particularly his wife and kids...

Eddie had actually been clean and sober for the past 4 years. He's been very vocal and public about his past struggles and inspired many to fight to stay clean. This final testimony to the damage that these things can do when abused is something he would likely be proud to be able to voice for the sake of those still struggling with various addictions.

Hey Ann, question:

Slave Tickler does have a point. Maybe Vince is pushing the wrestlers too hard, and is lackadaisical in his approaches in keeping his athletes drug-free, maybe the lack of awareness is a reason. What do you think??

We all know that Vince is an asshole and cares more about profits than his wrestlers. I don't think he's been lack luster on keeping the athletes drug free. Most of Eddie's drug/alcohol abuse happened during his time with ECW and WCW. After all, during the 1990's Vince was almost thrown in jail for allowing his superstars to use steroids. I don't think he wants a repeat of that.

However, there was the incidents with Scott Hall and Jeff Hardy . . .

I'm sure he does push them. Every boss does. It's part of being boss. You push your employees and trust them to be up front with you when you aren't up to it. I've seen a few cases where Vince has actually stopped guys from wrestling in order to give themselves time to properly heal. Don't get me wrong. I don't think Vince is a saint, by any stretch. But, I think we do both him and the wrestlers a disservice by putting it all in his lap.

Those working for Vince know the deal going in. They know it will be a grueling schedule. They know they'll get hurt every time out...and injured at some point to some degree. It's part of what they do. They have the ability to walk if it's not worth it to them. Look at Chris Jericho and Christian. They both walked away recently because it's too much for them...and because the money is no longer there. Word is that Chris Benoit isn't far behind. There are others who probably should walk as well.

I really don't think enough people would stop watching in protest of the guys being pushed too hard to have any real effect. But, as these guys have proven, THEY can walk away. That says a lot about what they care about for themselves...like remaining healthy. It will also send a much louder message to Vince. If he is truly turning a blind eye to things, it'll wake him up.

I agree. "Hurt" is a great song for Eddie's video tribute. I also agree that there is a point where no amount of money is enough for a person to compromise their
safety, morals, ethics, etc.

I myself have been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remember. I remember Eddie's days in ECW and WCW. I love Raw and couldn't wait to watch it. I was a blubbering mess watching Chris Benoit both on Raw and then on Smackdown in his match with Triple H. Say what you want about The Game but he did a great job in his match with Benoit as they hugged at the end. But I have to say the best part of both shows was at the end of Raw and what John Cena did laying down an Eddie shirt and then placing the title on top. That was a very classy move by a really good guy. Cena definitely shows a lot of respect for the great veterans. Eddie will be missed that is for sure but he is in a better place.

I'm also a long time wrestling fan. And I really wasn't looking foward to watching Raw and Smackdown this past week(a first) cause I knew how sad it would be. It was a case where I knew I HAD to watch to give myself closure in dealing with Eddie's death. And I must admit I had a harder time keeping it together watching Smackdown than I did on Raw. Batista's appearance, Vince and Shanes's tributes, and the end of the Benoit/Triple H match all but destroyed me emotionally. But I'll move on, the boys in the WWE will move on, and Eddie will be in our hearts always.

We get Smackdown at 11:30pm on saturdays here, so I just got done bawling my eyes out for two more hours. Batista's bit on the mic just ripped my heart out. God, I miss him so much already..... :sadcry:

Is it any wonder Brock Lesnar decided to pursue the NFL and the Rock went 'Hollywood'??
