www.the-agencies.com presents The Ruthless #7

Once again, The Ruthless provides us with something unique. I doubt any of us can say we've seen the tickling instrument used in this issue anywhere else! Oblesklk continues to further the story of Stacia in this issue, in which our anti-heroine begins picking up a coterie of followers (or minions, depending on your outlook). The artwork is, as usual, dazzling. All in all, another wonderful addition to this growing line!

As the Co-director, shouldn't you deserve a share of credit for the dazzling, wonderful uniqueness?

Thank you Sinister-Lurker

We have kept this comic line unique ever since its inception, and will continue to be unique until I hang up the pen. It's been very successful for us, and the fans have spoken: keep up the intensity and keep it unique!

We will absolutely keep doing so.

For those curious in our production processes, this is probably a good time to describe what a director does in a comic book. It's kind of an odd title, but it's not that much different than what a director does in film.

The scriptwriter sets the scene for the issue. Both literally and figuratively. The scriptwriter has a plot, fleshes out characters, works on dialogue, focuses on themes throughout the books, refers to existing canon, selects the scenes, ticklers, ticklees, outfits, angles, zooms, panel focuses, captions, and all that jazz that an art studio takes and translates into a comic book.

Once all that's done, the script will need some work. That's where an editor comes in and helps out with revisions. What Jon does is much more involved than just editing, though. After the revisions are made, the direction comes as production gets underway. We both have a say in how the development of the issue plays out. When we get back storyboards, pencils, inks, colors, and letters, and each of these stages corrections need to be made. Sometimes panels in the script need to be emphasize or de-emphasized. Sometimes the characters look odd, or the laughter doesn't look as intense as the script indicates. Sometimes outfits looks bizarre, colors come out flat, and dialogue is lackluster. There are a lot of pages to review and it's good to get two people to sign off on them. It's not necessary, of course, but having two people looking at our releases (a tradition we started with Dave2112 several years ago) has created a production environment which has substantially increased the quality of our releases.

During one of the next production previews I should show some more examples of direction we give during production. I know there are some of our readers interested in how the books come together and some of the thought processes that go behind it. We have the recent contest winners will join us for a pre-production meeting on The Agencies #19-20, it might be fun to start off a production journal from both my own and Jon's point of view of a comic, starting with how the meeting went. That would be fun.

Looks good. Will pick this up on my next paycheck.

Awesome, hope you enjoy 🙂

Sounds like.........yes? lol.

Sinister Lurker does indeed deserve some love for everything he pitched in on, which sounds like a lot. He should stop sand-baggin'. It's a lot of work to do what he's done. Step up buddy! You're the Co-Director! Give yourself some of that spotlight.

As for the Agencies org chart it makes sense, obviously. Having spent a lot of enjoyable time on both sides of the desk myself: from art creation, pencils, inking, coloring, lettering - to art direction, writing, and editing I know how much work can be involved in all of those jobs. They're all tons of fun. But tons of work as well.

Haven't picked up the issue yet, but I'm sure it's great. You guys always post up good work.

Kudos again to you and Jon (and of course the art team) and best of luck with this one,

B

I get carried away on description sometimes 🙂

I hear from people that like hearing about how the process works. Others don't care. As time permits, I overshare and occasionally annoy in the process.

I agree it's hard work. I've been on both the video side and comic side, and you've chosen well, sir! This side is much more fun. And you happen to be good at it, so that never hurts. Have a good night, aiming to finish up Yelena #5 script tonight.

Ha ha ha. I always overshare. What do ya do? Can't blame us for being excited about this stuff, right? 🙂

You have a good night yourself, and congrats on Yelena 5.

I suppose not. The passion is occasionally infectious 🙂

Got this issue and love it. You are masters of the art and I love every position, bead of sweat, insane laughter and whatever other crazy shit you throw in for fun. I get the same feeling at the end that I got with the agencies were succubus bites it, so I hope that's a wrong feeling. I like collins way too much and hope she gets tortured for all time. But I also love ariel so hmmmm lol. I love how she's just hot and crazy and wants to tickle everyone.

Good job again, thi siss issue was killer. Loved it, loved it!!

Oh hey, is the next issue out soon?

Thanks! As with most of our plotlines, I'm keeping pretty quiet on what's coming up next here...for both Collins and everyone else. Things don't look good for her right now, that's for sure.

Glad you liked the art and the comic in general. We will continue keeping that crazy high quality of artwork in our books, and strive to produce the very best the market allows.

Issue #8 has not entered production yet. I'm still in the scriptwriting stage, so it will be awhile yet.

The Ruthless #7 page 1

This page really sets the tone for both this issue and this story arc. Tracy and Doctor Collins are in the bath house, talking before all three of them are to be tested by The Ruthless. Doctor Collins plants the idea that Ariel wants to be The Ruthless's second in command and will kill both Tracy and Doctor Collins to get that coveted position. Although Tracy and Ariel are at odds with each other, murder isn't something she thought Ariel could be capable of. But now the idea is planted in her mind. There are 3 contestants that The Ruthless is testing and none of them trust the other. Tracy is a genuinely good person that believes in the goodness of others. She believes she can bring back Doctor Collins and Ariel from the abyss they're now in. Her faith is a powerful shield.

How will that affect the events in the next few issues...?

Like? I love it, you are amazing. The Ruthless and Yelena have got to be the sexiest things I've ever read.

Thanks, great to hear you like both comic lines! We're in the process of finding good talent to continue the Yelena line. The last issue was penciled/inked by Javier and he has moved over exclusively to The Agencies. So we are absolutely eager to continue that story as well, with a rather great "first" for Agency Publishing in that issue.

Incidentally, which Vancouver are you from: WA or BC?

Cool reivew. I can't post anything that long lol but ya I loved ruthless 7 too.

Like your responses too, glad to hear you're going full nude too at some point. Can't wait to see it!!!

It's always fun to try new things!

I'm glad to hear you like The Ruthless #7. That comic line has been a fan favorite since inception, and we're grateful for the support we've received for it over the years.
